It's great. Just buy it.

Though it is glitchy, it's not nearly as glitchy as people say and it's still really fun.

Online is one of those things that's really only fun if you have a group of friends to play it with, otherwise it's a lot of time spent riding your horse back and forth from place to place, arbitrarily grinding pretty boring copy/pasted content to try and earn some new thing that might make you able to grind 5% faster. There's really no endgame to online and all of the cool stuff costs gold which either means you'll be farming it for days or immediately spending real money to unlock anything to do.

The game is also riddled with little bugs and dumb choices that either should have been more fleshed out or completely avoided to begin with. The most obvious example would be the stealth "gameplay" that really just amounts to crouching because any number of things can alert enemies to your location including, but not limited to; random animal attacks, wandering NPCs, other players, questionable sightlines, buggy controls and mechanics, and even absolutely nothing. To make stealth even worse, there is no "cautious" or "searching" state or anything like that, it is purely either their idle states, or their aggressive homing states. That's it.

The game was very clearly hard focused on visuals and the singleplayer experience over the multiplayer and in some cases even basic functioning mechanics, so if you're looking for a game worth investing your time into for a longterm online experience? Skip it.

There's absolutely no reason not to get this game unless it simply isn't the kind of thing you like. That's it. The new player experience might be a little confusing, but once you sort through everything the game throws at you it all becomes very simple.

Y'know. Before this very last community update, I probably would've recommended the game. They're finally working on getting some not garbage combat, adding much needed replayability to the game. They were on a good path with lots of promising content for the future. Then, all of the sudden, they decided that once the game is launched, that's pretty much it. They decided to cut basically all of the planned content, reducing the game to a less interesting reskin of ARK without the tames. The stuff they've already put in was a good start, but without more expansion, it's worthless. You'll get maybe a handful of hours (relatively speaking) mostly spent just hacking and slashing for the level grind, and then there will be literally nothing more to do.

If you read any negative reviews purely about the DLC, ♥♥♥♥ em. Clearly they don't understand how a business works and that sometimes when you get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of money, it makes it hard to run a business so you might have to make a little money back even if it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ decision from a normal game design standpoint. The game's still great and frequently updated, plus you've got mods to make it even better.

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Garbage.

Terrible design. Cool in concept, awful implementation. Near impossible to effectively fight someone, it's essentially whoever gets the luckiest random flail wins. Unless they completely rebuild combat from the ground up, don't waste your time.
