This will be a software and hardware review, as you cannot make use of this software without the accompanying adapter.

Of my nearly 7 hours using the nofio app (2 of which were afk and with the headset turned off) I had a total of 7 crashes, 3 requiring a full restart of the game I was running and the other 4 requiring my headset to be power cycled. This is an incredible loss of immersion for the small reward of being able to turn in place and to be honest if i knew it was going to be this unstable when I backed it I would never have done it.

I will be going back to wired play as of this review and have no intention of touching the nofio adapter until these major issues are fixed, redscreening is common and massively problematic for a lot of social and creative vr games, and the lag and compression artifacts are atrocious for what I get out of it

Do not buy this adapter or download this software. It is a waste of your money and time until further notice.

Update:

Against my better judgement I decided to try using this again, so in my additional 6 (8-2 for the break again) hours

in that time I had a total of
1 redscreen that was unrecoverable
2 disconnects one of which made my ethernet fail
2 major artifacting events which disrupted play and audio
1 complete audio cutout requiring the display port to be reconnected

Resonite is a fairly technical platform as it currently stands, and a lot of the negative feedback it tends to receive is criticism of its ease of access, which I would probably have to agree with. I do recommend that a certain kind of player still give it a try, and that kind of player is the kind that is willing to do the legwork to figure things out and enjoys tinkering with weird and gritty systems.

For the other players I'd say give resonite 1-2 years and it'll probably be worth playing for you, its predecessor was basically undeveloped for the duration of the transition so its multiple years behind the vr social platform of choice at this point.

Personally though coming from a background of playing Gmod for multiple thousand hours I'm willing to deal with resonite's quirks in the moment just so I can relive some of that chaotic and silly fun of just dropping toys out of nowhere and messing around

Now that the devs are free from Karel this is probably going to go one of two ways that I wouldn't reccomend either
1. Crypto hellscape
- Karel hires a bunch of weird nft shills and goes hardcore on the crypto side and runs neos in to the ground so you don't want to play it in that case cause it'd be better to play vrc at that point
2. Abandonware
- Because the devs left and karel is impossible to work with the game is no longer developed, so you don't wanna waste your time on it

Go play Resonite instead once that comes out

somehow I haven't reviewed this yet, but in spite of being owned by facebook this has remained Mostly good to this day, and I have a good time playing even though the no-legs curse persists in multiplayer

This is another one of those situations where a "meh" vote would be fairly useful tbh, its been a while since VRC did the anti-cheat and personally I got some more playtime out of it after it came down, but I've started playing other platforms now, and only really come to VRC for large meetups that aren't quite ready to move to other places.

A lot of the potential VRC had was removed when the solution to VRC's problems was decided to be anti-cheat, rather than working with the modding community they alienated a lot of them, but these days I just like platforms where I have more freedom than vrc in general

TL;DR: Don't buy the game at full price, 50% is probably ideal.

I like the game, and I like the gameplay loop enough to have played this about 3 times from each major update (maybe more in the really early alpha/beta stage). But I agree with a lot of the disappointment in the reviews. The story is too samey to justify the 14$ price hike from when I bought it personally, but if you can snag it at 50% or less I'd say go for it if you like job-y games.

If the devs add workshop support so there can be a bit more variety in things to take apart, fix ancient bugs like Ghost ships Still double spawning computers (which has existed since Ghost ships were added) and add new official ships (Hell even if its DLC) Then the game will maybe be worth 35 dollars.

Till then I'd say wait for the winter sale.

Considering that it's only 5 dollars I can't really not recommend this game, but I have a few issues with some of the features/ lack of features in the game.

First of all the game desperately needs an option to sort/filter certain rules, as a lot of things like visual tasks take a lot of the challenge out of the game.

Secondly, in spite of the fact that there is apparently a penalty for leaving in game, it seems like it happens a lot regardless, which is a downer so it'd be nice if something could be done about that (Though allowing to filter for rules honestly might be the solution to that.)
