I typically shy away from RPG Maker games, but got this as part of a...collection, liked the cover art and figured I'd give it a try.

100% worth it.

This game has an interesting, unique game world, a surprising amount of depth to characters, a healthy dose of humour and (mostly importantly) the core gameplay loop itself it really fun. I loved collecting new items to sell, serving customers, upgrading my shop etc. etc.

There's plenty of secrets to find which all feel rewarding, adding various optional abilities or perks. My only "complaint", of sorts, is that there's an awful lot to do and (seemingly) many different ending possible. I enjoyed my time a lot, though not enough to replay many more times to see the different endings, as reaching the end again would still take a long time to achieve.

Great game, fun shop sim and an engaging story too. Give this a shot if that sounds like your sort of thing. :)

UPDATE: Yeah, the creator got me. Saw he'd added a whole bunch of things with a recent update, drew me back in and have played a lot more since. It felt great getting through things I found hard on my initial playthrough with ease, yet there were still more secrets left to uncover and mechanics I engaged with more my second time through that I'd neglected on my first run.

Still excellent, keeps getting better. :D

I'm furious at how much better this game is than the store page makes it look. I would have never given this a try were it not for Iron Pineapple's recent video.

Graphics are simple, but nicely stylised, and the combat isn't too nuanced either, sure. But the core game loop of exploring, gathering resources, returning to camp and using those resources to make better tools that can gather more exotic materials or clothing to survive in harsher environments is insanely fun. The feeling of being able to destroy more and more of what you see is extremely satisfying. You start off being very carefully led around environments by barricades and end up smashing through walls to get where you want to be.

The DLCs are both fun. Worth the money and consider doing them asap due to the convenience they reward you with.

Here's the real shocked though...there's a story. And it's actually good.

I wasn't playing for the story at all, and that's perfectly fine, not every game needs one. This game's mechnically fun enough to play that I would not have minded a loose justification for what you do. But no, I actually ended up drawn in to a creative tale that went far further than I ever expected and impressed me up until the end. It's told loosely through radio broadcasts and the odd note, but gives you plenty to digest between each. It may look like you're in suburban America at first but...you're really not.

Final odd thoughts; this has tons of things that it didn't need, but add a lot of charm. I've seen some complaints about the game being "grindy", but I went all-in on xp gain buffs at first and had no issues levelling up. The Ark scavenger hunt sides quests may feel grindy, but they really aren't. Grow crops, check them every so often and forage while doing other things. It's easy to get everything and the other categories you'll probably gather for while playing normally.

I had a great time and highly recommend. Looking forward to what 10tons make next. :)

Echoing the many other reviews here, but if you have the patience, just stick with it. You might not be thrilled with the high school romance, but it is essential to appreciating the full impact of the sequel. I struggled to push through Extra, but Unlimited/Alternative more than made up for it AND made me fully appreciate completing Extra entirely first.

Go in as blind as you can and enjoy. This 100% deserves the reputation it has.

A fantastic text-based adventure. Visually appealing art, a chill soundtrack and most importantly of all, brilliant writing. I loved playing through a medieval fantasy world that felt familiar in a few ways, yet different in many others. I enjoyed this game enough to play through twice and it's well-worth the price!

As someone too scared to play Subnautica, this was a perfect alternative and an excellent experience in its' own right.

The core gameplay loop is intrinsically fun, the jokes are a welcome bit of silly fun and I really appreciate the progression in terms of how far you can explore and to what degree your oxygen limits you. Highly recommended if you like survival games and humour.

(Play time will look low as I could only play the game with Steam in offline mode or would be forced to sign up for a "Bethesda Account".)

If you're like me and are coming into this with fresh, happy memories of Doom (2016), do yourself a favour and just enjoy those memories or even replay it. This sequel is fun, up to a point, but crippled with niggling issues that really spoiled the game for me until I gave up at what I assume was fairly close to the end. I don't usually post reviews, but here's a few points to better explain why i'd avoid this:

- Forced weaknesses: Enemies now have extreme weaknesses and resistances. A Cacodemon is weirdly durable, but will be instantly vulnerable if you fire a grenade into it's mouth. An enemy's shield is bullet resistant, but explodes under Plasma Rifle fire. An armoured Mancubus can have its' armour...punched off. It's fun at first, but quickly turns into a nuisance when you're facing all of these at once and lacking the ammo you need.
- Heavy story focus: Rare are the cutscenes where we can see Doomguy's character through his actions in first-person. Now he has a voice, a face, full third-person cutscenes. At one point I picked up nine codex entries to read in a row without any combat. I don't mind the story being there even if it's not why i'm playing a Doom game, but it's a bit much.
- Lots of first-person platforming: It isn't fun or interesting, to me at least.
- Too many options: Yes, there is such thing as too much choice. There's so many different options and ways of getting resources in combat, it's easy to be overwhelmed and forget some. Glory kills for health, flame belch for armour, blood punch for health, chainsaw for ammo, sprints, grenades, BFG etc.
- The Marauder: An enemy completely at odds with the design of the game and what really broke the camel's back for me. An enemy that you can't damage at all until a very small window of timing and punishes you for ever being at the wrong range or shooting at the wrong time. It's not impossible to defeat at all and there are strategies, but it just isn't fun. I'd just killed my third (and a boss that fights like him), when I realised I wasn't having fun any more. I was going through each level dreading the next encounter with one, wishing they didn't exist. A quick Google told me that there were many more and tons in the DLC too. After all of the above, I uninstalled on the spot and haven't looked back.

Fun in the early levels and still enjoyable to a degree, but in my opinion a lot of small issues really add up and spoil the experience later on.
