You play as the Emperor's Agent, adventuring around High Rock and Hammerfell to... well, that's actually up to you.

Simply, this is a classic game from a classic era. It has all the elements of old school RPGs, the lore foundation that helps set up later Elder Scrolls games and some rather unique game mechanics. However, the graphics is a bit dated and this version does come with its full share of bugs.

If you're hellbent on getting the 1996 vanilla experience, you can go ahead with this version. But even if you tread carefully, you might still get stuck in a dungeon within an hour, due to some unfortunate map generation.

For others, including returning players, I would highly recommend playing with the Daggerfall Unity engine (you can link it and launch from Steam instead of this default exe), for better graphics, map generation, bug fixes, balancing and mechanics improvement.

Once set up, you're in for 100+ hours of fun playing through the main quests, side quests, faction quests and exploring the plethora of landmarks.

Lastly, some advice for players who only started in Skyrim or ESO - there's no hand-holding here. If you thought Morrowind is difficult to get in, just wait until you try this. But I promise, once you get the hang of it, you'll remember and start appreciating again why you loved RPGs and TES series in the first place.
