Will be updating this review as of 06-16-2020, after I have had ample time to retest it with all the expansions.

UPDATE:

I am still not recommending this. More for personal reasons now then otherwise as many of the issues below still exist although the game has improved a lot and some have been fixed. I still stand by my original opinion mainly because it seems like the devs have been lazy in not only what they have added but in fixing the below listed issues. Again this is my personal opinion as these issues are a source of SUPER annoyance to me and make the game not really that enjoyable to me. BUT lets be real.... There really are not many choices for mech games out there.

But you may like it.

I have Changed this review to No recomended, I still enjoying playing it, but not because its a "good" game. I like the ideal and as far as mech games like this, It's the only one. For reasons I have changed my rating see the Cons section.

Simply put, Its just too grindy, and doing anything in the game (That isnt combat) is a major chore and makes you want to smash the screen. Other then that combat mechanics are great, Mapos are good. Its the meat of the game that pisses me off though.

First off, Yes, I did recomend this game, in the bgining, even though this review is quite criticizing. Mainly because as a game, it is a great game, if you've never played battletech, MWO, Mechassault, or any of the Genre, then much of this review, may or may not make a lot of sense.

The game itself opens in the time period after the Star League Shattered, and before the Clans Organized, Or rather dureing the time they are organizing, but not yet an active threat to the inner sphere.

Pros

* The game runs very smooth.
* The cutscenes are remeniscent of an older time and really give you the old Battletech feel.
* Combat mechnics are smooth and skills actually have a noticible effect in combat.
* The graphics are good
* The game is a semi sandbox, which opens up the more you play, after an area is unlocked you are free to move and go wherever and do whatever, you please.

Cons:

* Mech selection is abysmal, out of the 1000+ Mechs of the time period, they chose the most generic, ugly, and useless to put into the game with the exception of a select few gems. While I "Could" chalk this up to the time period and strife that is occuring after the Star Leagues fall, the fact that Black KNights, Catapults, and King Crabs among other such as the Marauders (Which I love but they were removed), ravens, and Warhammers, are not even invented dureing this time period. Yet they are in game...... So I can't chalk the fact that all they put in are the "♥♥♥♥♥♥" mechs as a "Lore" and Time period excuse. This confuseing Conflictual BS, causes many of us Battle Tech Vets no end of a headache.

* Missing Quad mechs.

* Mech Customization is absolute, ♥♥♥♥. From all the hype I expected something more along the lines of MWO's mech customization. However apparently Paradoxes vission of "Massively Customizable" Consists of Changing your weapon loadout, and changing the colors and pattern on your mechs, when the only pattern options are all so similer they mine as well be the same damn thing. (Except Colors, Color Choices are decent).

* Mech fitting Times, Heal times, and repair times, even with a fully upgraded Argos are abhoridly absolute ♥♥♥♥. My clothes went out of style while waiting on my main character to heal and his mech to be repaired. Literaly 5 months of in game time passed while I was just sitting there waiting for the damn ♥♥♥♥ to finish.

* Enemy mechs become so powerful that light and medium mechs mine as well be assaults. It took me 4 Jagers 6 rounds to kill a commander, hitting it continuously..... it killed one of my Jagers...

* Game is supppppppppppppppppppppppppppper grindy. Be prepared to run ♥♥♥♥♥♥ battles continuously for 12 hours just to get yourself a better mech. Costs are rediculous as well as time. They need to take a more mechwarrior online aproach to there mech bay. In addition selling ♥♥♥♥ isnt worth anything.

* You tell me my salvage is worth 15 million. Yet when I try to sell it I'll get 150k tops.

Game is a scam.

It is unplayable, you can not mitigate your account and when you hit play after downloading it just opens a webpage where it says "Mitigation Failed" and that's it. Support never replies. 2 months waiting.

I wanted to play this game, A lot. Unfortunately beyond the Imperial Campeign (which is buggy as hell adn will cause you to lose even if you meet all win conditions). I wasn't able to. The game however is Decent Looking. But I have seen far better from indipendent studios. I expected far more from an AAA one.

1. The campeign,

* Buggy as hell, Will lose even when you should win sometimes (All win conditions met).
* Imperial faction Only. (Seriously?)

2. Multiplayer,

* Goes like this: Fit ship and fleet, Hit Launch, an hour later still in que. No notifiers, No nothing.
* Pointless as you will never get a match.

3. Skirmish,

* Pointless, as theres no real Open mode, just random battles with stupid AI.


Conclusion: DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! (I am so glad I purchased it on sale for like 10.00$, it's not even worth that.

There is nothing to do once you complete the campeign and as stated above, there is only 1 campeign for 1 race.

Alpha Tests Review, Will Continue to update.

So far, Everything you wanted from Star Citizen but never recieved. (And this game is only in Alpha with a lot more to come.) I mean seriously Star citizens been in development for like 10 years. and its still in Alpha this game is from what I can tell, matching up to everything youd want in a Scifi, Space building etc, shooter survival game.

If you give it a try remember to Get onto the Test server, as the development process for this game is different then other games. Alpha Beta, etc, is Test server. Live server is for Finished and Completed updates, and Early access play, which means it will be lacking in content until updated.

Read below for a more comprehensive breakdown of why this is, and why it's a great idea for a developing game.


Has typical Alpha Issues.


It should be noted that the Test server is where you want to play at. Not the main server, (At least until the major Update). All updates are applied to the test server first, flushed out and fixed, then ported to the main server. While this may take slightly longer to get the main server the content, the content once released is virtually perfect in nature.

Personally, I think this is a great Idea, it lets people experience the new content while giving feedback and seeing that feedbacks result in game before it gets sent to the actual Main Live servers. And once it does it means the main server players get a far better product then they would with traditional development processes.

This is the same process I used when I owned several WoW Private servers. The community and the devs develope the content ont he test servers, then once finished slam the Main servers with the perfected nearly bug free content.

As usual, I played the game in full for over 100 hours before writeing a review. I paid full price for the game as well, $49.99.

* Rundown -

The game is a basically a Mix of Fallout 4, Skyrim, Darksouls, and Mass effect series, with some Very adult themes and Language thrown in, (Such as Sex, Prostitutes, Lots of Cussing, and people actually Urinateing off bridges etc. The game is very in depth as far as Role playing is concerned and NPC's will react to how you act and what you say, and it will either allow or even prevent you from completeing quests etc. YES what you say and do actually matters and has tangible consequences.

I ticked off a bar owner and got baned from the bar for example, she would no longer sell to me and no merchant in the bar would even talk to me. This was unfortunate as I needed a lot of Liquer to make my Elix potions. So I had to spend several hours finding a new source.

The games story is complex, and you do need to have an imagination to fill in some of the more philisophical gaps. The questlines need polishing (Story and Conversationally). There were many times it seemed to skip sentances or assume you had already done something (Maybe I had and not realized it). So they would continue with the convo like you had already replied.

The game is 100% freeroam open world, and it treats you like reality would. Nature doesn't care if your weak. You will learn quick or die. It is very Dark souls in this way.

You can make whats called elix potions in order to artificially give yourself atribute points, Xp, and skill points, however this has 2 very real consequences in game.

1. It is VERY expensive to make these potions. So you will need to choose between gear and ammo etc (Which are generally hard to come by) and making these.

2. Drinking them increases your cold value. This value determines the end game. I drank a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ because I got tired of dieing and I was lazy so I could get my attributes up to equip better gear. I paid the price in the endgame as the only option I had being basically a humanoid machine, was to serve the Hybrid once more and ended up killing off the factions I had worked so hard to build up. (Yes the game forces you the play to do this there is no cutscenes for it, you litterally have to go and offer the factions a choice, Join or Die in true ALb Bad guy Fassion.) If they refuse you have to kill the entirety of the faction etc and they will all try to kill you.

Yes this is a game where you can choose to actually be the villain. And win.

At endgame your cold value determines your path. Once you speak to the Hybrid there are several ways it can go and this value is paramount in deciding the quests afterwords and what happens to the world itself. I can not stress enough how important this value is.


Pros -

Open world
Autonomous choices
Meaningful Choices
Lots of companion choices
In depth Story
Wide selection of traits skills, and abilities
Multiple faction choices (Or none) You dont actualy have to join one. Only if you want better armor and faction abilities.
Skill based combat
Interactive Characters

Cons -

Not a lot of choices in weapons or armor.
Can't customize companions armor/weapons
Combat is slightly clunky
Steep Learning curve on combat even from the begining (Ie Darksouls)
Story needs polishing (Interactional conversations don't always make sense)


I would give this game a 7/10 However do to these basic issues I would definitely not value the game at 49.99$. But I would definitely be willing to pay 24.99 for it. If they made these polishes and smoothed out the combat clunks then yes it would definitely be worth 49.99$.

This review will be mixed, simply because the game itself is a mixed bag. It requires skill, and tactics and I can understand some of the Negative reviews even though I think most of the issue is player perception. Don't get me wrong the game has some issues, but I find it well worth playing despite that.

I'll have to break this review up into 2 parts, as Both the Clans, And Inner Spher are very different and have very different playstyles.

1. Inner Sphere.

Pros-

* Mechs are vastly supperior then clan mechs in the area of Brawling and in your face battles.
* Mechs start with more useful quirks, even without skills.
* More weapon types and varyations.
* More Armor options, and available types.
* Higher Drop deck weight Limit, of 265 Tons.

Cons-

* Slower
* Shorter Range then Clan mechs
* Weapons do less damage
* Weapons require more face time


Clan:

Pros-

* Variable Components and Pods make mech far more customizable.
* Longer range weapons
* Higher Damage Weapons
* Faster Mechs
* Lighter weapons

Cons-

* Less armor and Armor types
* Less weapon choices
* Weapons Produce more heat
* Less Mech Fitting Space
* Smaller Drop Deck Weight Limit of 240 Tons
* Squishy and Most can not Brawl at all


Now, reading that, you might go, Huh Inner sphere seems superior, Thats totally against lore. Well thats true, 1v1 an Inner Sphere mech will always win against a clan mech of the same weight class if both players have the same skill level.

And you might say, if thats true why are clans winning? Well its simply really, well... not simple but the answer is, New players Join IS, Veterans and Military Join Clan. The reason Clans Dominate is because the vast majority of their players work as a team, Whereas the vast majoity of IS even some premades are a giant cluster ♥♥♥♥.

The other reason is that clan mechs force you to learn fast, or die quick. They are not forgiving at all. You either learn to play at a competitive level very quickly or you rage quit. This mentality hits you from the very first battle. You will learn adapt, work as a team and dominate, or you'll die horribly.

Inner sphere mechs on the other hand can take massive amounts of damage without dieing, and are VERY forgiving. IS adopts the mentality of learn as you go if you make mistakes your ok. PGI encourages this. If you put a Clan Pilot in an IS mech they are damn near unkillable and will dominate the battle field. Put an IS pilot in a clan mech they are likely to die within the first 90 seconds of the match.

This unfortunatley has thrown the game completely out of balance. PGI bases nurfs on stats player reviews, and information of wins, rather then looking at the underlying causes. Its not that clan is overpowered, because honestly Clan mechs these days are about damn useless in the hands of anyone other then a veteran, But because of the skill levels and mentalities and tactics, which is not something you can nerf.

So the clans continue to be nerfed into uslessness. Pointlessly, and many Life long Clan players are either quiting or moving to Inner sphere due to the massive pointless nerfbats swung at clan mechs repeatedly over and over again.


Conclusion:

The game is worth playing, its a lot of fun. Just realize the IS has a severe advantage over the clans, and if you choose to become a Clanner, realize that you'll either soon be an elitest, or you'll be crawling back to IS.

That being said, a Clan mech int he hands of a Skilled Clanneris a force to be recond with. But only if the pilot is a High Skilled Veteran player.

So what you choose, is up to you. Become one of the Elite, or Play casual as IS.

Everything you ever wanted from Star Conflict, But never recieved.

* Amazing Graphics
* Non Clunky interface
* Balanced (and very Different) Ships
* No Pay to Win
* Truly Free to Play
* Unique system of Bonuses based on your customizable crew


Negatives:

* Maps are a kinda small (Need some gigantic maps that make space feel like... Well Space, and which make snipers actually usefull).

* Repetitive (More game types would be nice)

* Need a lot more ship choices, and ship roles (Although there are still a bunch and new ones are being added).



8/10 Definitely a game you should get.

UPDATE: 06/16/20

Still not recommending. Devs and Studio have not changed, Game is an empty ghost town, and content is lackluster at best. What IS added seems to be done in a ragtag, pisspooor fashion, and most of it seems to be design around some insane concepts that only makes sense in the minds of the Studio devs, which normally I'd be all for but unfortunately in reality simply do not work.

Sadly I can not recomend this game. As always I played for several hundred hours before writeing a review.

The game itself isn't a bad game, it has lots of potential, and could one day be great but currently, in it's current state it has some severe limitiations, as well as some severe community issues.

Pros:

- 400Billion star systems ( unfortunately 99.9% of them are empty excpet for the systems around the core player area.)
- Missions
- Factions, and Power play (Pretty neat ideas, though currently very shallow)
- First person Cockpit twitch game
- Few noticibal Bugs.
- Interesting ships to chose from

Cons:

- As stated above the Star systems are virtually empty (of content) except for the NPC human populated area's which make up less then 1% of the game.

- Very little actual content beyond whats listed above, and that content is very very grindy.

- Toxic Community, a lot of fearmongering about social groups and guilds, includeing the moderators.

- No in game social Structures or guild Support.

- Gustapo Censoring Mods. Especially on the topic of Guilds, a few reads through their posts and it's obvious to see how either you agree that guilds are horrible evil entities bent on ruining all games, or you are a pyria and a black sheep of the community.

As you can see, the post was censored and closed (About an hour after I posted it). Hmm So much for FD's statemtn on "We love our playerbases Opinions and Creative ideas!.

I was also banned from the forums when I reported the Mod for censoring the thread and poll, Only for a week but still, apparently they have something called Moderator Cotestment, which essentially from what I gather means your not alowed to disagree with a mods ruleing, even if that ruleing itself obviously, is an abuse of power.

But anyway,

- Again, for it's size and the money that was put into by kickstarter (over 14 Million) though the game is large the content is very very lacking.

- Most content is derived tword, get better ship metality, get better gear. It only takes a few weeks to get the best ship and gear. Power Play as stated above is broken and shallow dealing with mostly "take these materials here and come back to get more and do the same".

Once you have the best of the best, everything is easymode and there is no challenge to the game at all, in fact it suddenly becomes a chore to do anything as everything suddenly becomes the same thing.

- The game is not an MMO, be aware of this (even though it is advertised as such it supports none of the functions common to an MMO). it is a Single player game with Co-Op, and a mode called Open, in which you "Can" interact with up the 32 people at a time, unfortunately you will never see more then 3, (if that) as most of the systems even the npc populated ones, are very very devoid of life, except of course the NPCs.

Most of the time I spent in Open, I found myself still playing solo. I did find one of the powers HQ systems with people in it once, about 4 of them. but after I left I didin't see anyone else again.

- Very low population. I realize FD attempts to state that they have over 600k people, they don't. It's more like 10k-15k max spread across SOLO mode, Group Mode, and Open mode. I know this because after I got my python all I did was troll system after system looking for people in the suposedly core populated areas (according tot he forums). All I found were empty systems with NPC's in them going about their business. Except for that one PP HQ system I metnioned earlier.


Conclusion:

* If you like single player space games with co-op and decent content (As long as you don't mind repetitively doing the same thing for weeks) that will keep you ocupied for a bit, Get this game.

* If your interested in a Space game with loads of in depth and immersive content, Social structures and the ability to comunicate with your friends without needing a 3rd party program. Without a toxic close minded community bent on censoring anything they do not agree with, and a population you can actually "Play with".

Don't buy this game.

* Without social adpations and features which support large social groups (Guilds), I don't see this game having a real future in the market, it's a real shame too done right this game could have given EvE online a run for it's money, but the anti guild mentality of the developers as well as the staff, and the anti social behavior therin, I fear will prevent the company and the game from becoming anything more then a C Listed 9.99 game with trinket content every so often.

They claim Elite Dangerous is for Niche players, maybe it is, but maybe they overestimated how many that would be also, and the profits associated with such.

Update 2019 July - Not Recomended, game is a pale shadow of its former self and is now more like something your 12 year old would enjoy rather then the robust creative monster it once was.


Old Review (Launch):

Robocraft, Well the name is pretty self explanitory, you build robots, Tanks, Flyers, walkers, combinations of all the above, your imagination is the limit.

I've played over 217 hours before writing this review, and honestly I can find no fault with the game, yes there are some cons, and I'll list those in a bit, but for the most part this game is definitely top notch especially for an alpha.

With that said:

Pros:

~ Build your own comabt mechs (Even Healers).

~ Balance is good, their are no unfair combinations, the CPU requires you to sacrifice tank for damage and vice versa is different amounts depending on your desires. You can basically tweak your bot to do whatever you want.

~ Balanced Leveling system - Levels are aquired through kills, Heals, and Damage, The tech path determs which rank your bot fights in, the higher the rank of your bot the better gear you can get. You get higher ranks by equiping better gear you can unlock from the tech tree with token you earn from combat.

~ Balanced Matchmaking - Tech Tiers are seperated by your robots ranking, So you'll never face a robot that completely dominates you because of gear or parts (Unless you do a challenge battle which reward a TON of money and tech points).


~ Plenty of different game Modes, (With more to be added from what I hear).

1. Chalenge Mode - A mode where 4 Higher tier bots face off against 10 Lower tier bots, the tiers are usually 2-4 apart. A Challenge, but not impossible to win on either side.

2. Mega Bot - 1 Huge, High damage Player Bot vs 10 Other Players.

3. Normal and Ranked - Normal matches with Occasional high reward ranked matches.

4. More on the way.


~ The tech tree - Plenty of Options,

1. Weapons - Plasma Cannons (Artillary), SMGs (Pulse Lasers), Rails (Snipers), Disrupters (Dammage Over Time and Heal Over Time).

2. Armor - Too many to list, Lets just say you have tons of options in armor types, including plateing which can give your bot cool looks as well as shields.

3. Miscilanious stuff, like thrusters, wings, radars, jammers, all kinds of stuff.

There are literally 100's of items, and infinite combinations for Bots.

~ F2P - The only thing you can buy are premade Bots (Nothing over Rank 7), and Premium (Which basically is like a sub that gives you 100% bonus to earned RP (Money) and Tech points, which in Moeny is less then 10$ a moth (It's actually like 6.45$ or something for 30 days of premium).



Con's:

Honestly I had to rack my brain to figure out what to put here. But I would say perhaps some PVE could be added, maybe a story line, Open world, and some other stuff.

I can't honestly think of anything negative to say about the game. and haveing played it for over 200 Hours I have encounted 0 issues (even though it's in alpha) I mean yea theres the occasional (And I mean only like once or twice a day occasional) DC, Bug, and Server instability, but I don't really count that as a "Con", with it being an Alpha, I count it as "Expected".

I would 100% recomend this game to anyone who loves creating their own stuff from nothing,a nd useing it to fight other people in matches. So if your creative, Intelligent, and enjoy the ability to mold your fighting machine to your standards, and your designs (Entirely with very little limitations). This is the game for you.

2023 August Review

The game has fixed most of the required pay to win issues, it is now possible to progress through the whole game and all tiers at a reasonable rate without paying any money.

Plenty of people still play the game.




- 2015 Mid Year Review - Negative Did not Recomend. -

Game Saw a ton of Improvement, Was however Still P2W, and heavily focused on Gouging players out of their money.


- Release Review - Negative Did not Recomend.

Game was broken in many areas, and Severly P2W.
