Hitman Absolution, the 5th main series Hitman game released, and it looks beautiful, even on today's lower end hardware on low settings. So, how is it? I think it's pretty good.

Taking a huge step away from the previous games in the series, Absolution has completely reworked the stealth system for the game. Unlike Blood Money, which I felt was made a little too easy with it's detection mechanics, Absolution has a new mechanic where you are quickly noticed by enemies and NPCs who wear the same uniform as you, or if you enter an area you aren't supposed to be. This is visibly telegraphed by a yellow meter that fills up, which can be negated by quickly ducking out of sight, leaving the restricted area, or by making use of 2 new stealth mechanics, namely "Instinct" and "Hiding in Plain Sight"
Hiding in Plain Sight is a new mechanic where players can do costume specific actions such as reading menus as a civilian, mopping as a janitor, reading about the Lord as a henchman, or sniffing doughnuts as a police officer. These actions allow the player to stand still in open areas without nearby NPCs seeing them, and often prompts them to say funny lines if it's used to hide from someone who has seen though your costume. (which, to my knowledge, is the only way to fool people who have seen through your costume)
Now let's talk about the other new mechanic: Instinct. By holding down the CTRL key or the Right Bumper, players can slow time slightly and look around for highlighted weapons, hiding spots, and enemies. While in this sudo detective vision mode, not only can players see enemy pathing via fire trails on the floor, but if te player is dressed as that enemy, they can hide from them in exchange for some of their instinct meter. But that's not all!
Players also use Instinct to slow time to a crawl, and line up multiple shots to be executed in a cutscene like manner, very useful for cleaning up after yourself if you've been seen by a lot of enemies. You can earn more on lower difficulties by doing anything to gain points, such as scoring headshots, hiding bodies, and completing objectives.

Now let's talk about some of the not so great things in this game. For starters, Absolution as a system where the player can take cover against walls and furniture. This has lead to very square centric level design, as well as giving way to a new gameplay style: cover shooting. Now I don't advise you to try this method for highscores, or even really on higher difficulties, but let me tell ya, the occasional sudden, intense cover shootout really broke up the frustration of the tight, tense stealth; and on Hard, I always felt like I was in serious danger in a cover shootout. I found the cover shooting surprisingly satisfying, between creping up and flanking hostile enemies, and sections where they give me a sniper rile and a nice long stretch of enemies wandering around to carefully and strategic pick off enemies without them seeing each other die. Another complaint people have about this game is that it pushes you down a hallway, making you play how it wants you to. andwhile I agree to some existent that the game is more linier than previous games in the series, I never really felt like I didn't have any options.
Let's address another complaint, the online mode that some people call "Tacked on", Contracts Mode. This is a game mode where you can go back into almost an level in the game, starting with an unlicked costume and weapon of your choice, you replay the section of the level, pick out target from any npc marked on the radar, kill them however you'd like, then exit the level. This generates a challenge that you can then post into a big pool of everyone's levels. And the interesting thing about this feature, is that the servers are still up! Today on March 10th, 2017, I uploaded a new (relatively difficult) contract, and 9 other players played it within the hour, a few beating my own score.

Hitman Blood Money, the fourth game in the Hitman series, and it brings a whole lot more to the table than Hitman Contracts did. Offering a whole new host of options, such as new tools, new outfits, HUGE groups of npcs, and even weapon customization!
It also seems like 47 has had a shower since the last game, as he can now walk past a guard without setting off an alarm, and he can even wander around common areas in his suit without being shot.

The game also offers a reputation system, wherein the police will actively build a case against you in between levels as you commit crimes and are witnessed by npcs. I think this system works pretty well, but there are irritating little things that bug me about the stealth system. for starters, animals count as witnesses to your crimes, and can raise your notoriety between levels. This carries over to NPCs with "crowd AI" who will not alert the police to your presence...but they will break your suspension meter, making it lock at code yellow until you eliminate the npc who saw you. so that's annoying.

On the reverse side, I quite enjoyed the open freedom to kill my targets, in every way you can think of. from shoving people out the window, to poisoning their beer, to just walking in and blowing them away with a gun. I feel like Hitman Blood Money really strikes the balance between classic Hitman and Hitman Absolution, offering a much better stealth system than the originals, without sacrificing the freedom to wander around the entire map (like other games in the series i may or may be part way through right now)

Lucius II has done for the original what Saint's Row 2 did for Grand Theft Auto 4. don't go into this expecting a slow, moody tie into a popular film, it in fact, plays more like Hitman, but your goal is to actully kill everyone, rather than sneak about and silently assasinate one or 2 targets. If you're in the mood for some silly, nonesense killing fun time, give this game a try.

Functional, elegant, easy to use U.I, 450 or so built in puzzles, and even a puzzle editor so simple a down syndrome chimp could figure it out. I'd say we got a winner here. The only thing it might be worth making a note of is the lack of in game music or timers, but if you really care about timing yourself, windows has a built in stop watch, as does your phone.

A brilliant little game with some passion behind it.

The gameplay seems most comparable to FTL, but trust me, Convoy is a whole different bag. Basically, the entire game is an escort mission in which you guide a delivery truck from place to place. Your delivery truck has no means of actually defending itself, and that's where the strategy comes into play. You start with 2 cars equipped with light firepower, and they drive along side your main truck. You have to move them around the road, getting them in position and selecting targets for them to fire upon, or to ram into another space. You also have to factor in being slammed out of you lane, managing your shields, and deciding whether or not a car can take the heat to soak up incoming damage on the convoy leader. To help you fight enemies and get your units into position, you can hit the space bar at any time to pause the action, just like FTL.

While you're not in combat, you have to drive around a randomly generated map, completing 3 main quests to collect parts to repair your ship, completing side quests, and collecting scrap to repair your vehicles and buy new weapons and fuel, and to prepare for the final boss fight. in between each of the battles you fight, the 3 factions gain more territory and the land gets more dangerous, to encourage you to hurry your ass up.

While the humor of the game is largely "hey, pop culture reference!" the absurd amount of variety in encounters more than makes up for it. I also haven't felt like a reference was "out of place" as they do a fantastic job of blending these silly characters into the absurd gameplay. I highly recommend downloading the Johnny Bavo mod, as it's fun to have a squad of 4 Johnny Bravos rolling in your convoy.

I highly recommend this game, it's a great strategy game to just pick up and play, and it's great if you want something close to FTL, but you want to mix up the gameplay.
