While the enemies of the Emperor still draw breath, there can be no peace.

This is how Warhammer 40,000 should be represented. There have been many successful and valiant efforts such as Dawn of War I&II or Space Marine. However, as an avid reader of the books and having been swept up and sucked into the lore, this how one would visualize void combat. From the cinematics and dialogues to the gameplay and tactics, it is a gritty dark experience that leaves you wanting to come back for more. You feel compelled to progress the various storylines or outmaneuver your opponent’s leaving nothing but burning wreckage in your wake.

Perhaps at launch this was a very different game, though each campaign is now unique and forces you to play as the faction would, and the updates have made multiplayer more balanced but not perfect. Of course, that is not mentioning the massive battle mode… Although for me the single player experience has been nothing short of addicting. I have not enjoyed a game with naval space combat since Star Wars Empire at War.

If you are looking for a satisfying space RTS and an authentic grimdark experience, then I would recommend watching all the trailers for both games’ multiple times and dropping the 30 bucks for this one.

"The techpriests are overloading the warp engines, we will destroy the ship and take the enemy with us, it is better to die for the Emperor than to live for oneself!"

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade

Angron addressing Roboute Guilliman during the Shadow Crusade.
"What would you know of struggle, Perfect Son? When have you fought against the mutilation of your mind? When have you had to do anything more than tally compliances and polish your armour?" [...] "The people of your world named you Great One. The people of mine called me Slave. Which one of us landed on a paradise of civilization to be raised by a foster father, Roboute? Which one of us was given armies to lead after training in the halls of the Macraggian high-riders? Which one of us inherited a strong, cultured kingdom? And which one of us had to rise up against a kingdom with nothing but a horde of starving slaves? Which one of us was a child enslaved on a world of monsters, with his brain cut up by carving knives? Listen to your blue-clad wretches yelling of courage and honour, courage and honour, courage and honour. Do you even know the meaning of those words? Courage is fighting the kingdom which enslaves you, no matter that their armies outnumber yours by ten-thousand to one. You know nothing of courage. Honour is resisting a tyrant when all others suckle and grow fat on the hypocrisy he feeds them. You know nothing of honour."
