Repping Smashball in 2022, I respect it.

Smashball would probably be very popular nowadays, it was a victim of being too ahead of its time.

Here on the 1.0 launch day and...

- The optimisation issues that've plagued the game since it was released into Early Access are still there, if not worse (even the main menu chugs)
- The game looks weirdly muddy (and not in a good way) with terrible AO on any vaguely playable graphical settings
- Setting the graphical settings in the first place is a chore as some of them (such as MSAA) seemingly don't even work
- The customisation system is weird both visually and functionally (acquired by doing very specific missions that you have to manually enable), interesting idea with the adjustment by year, horrid execution
- While some areas of the game have a nice level of attention to historical detail (uniforms, weapons, etc.), others are the opposite, such as the bandage model and animation being the modern Israeli bandage straight from Squad
- The introduction of tanks was a disaster as the maps seemingly weren't designed for them and they mostly just sit in a spot that no infantry can realistically get to and lob shells that have a large AoE at/around cover
- The way the sections are designed, while interesting conceptually, don't really scale and falls apart when you don't have a full server
- There's generally a lack of quality of life additions, such as requiring you to attach your rifle's bayonet every time you spawn
- The melee system (advertised as a main feature) is virtually useless, 9 times out of 10 using your bayonet is the best option (which still sucks compared to Red Orchestra's melee system for example)
- Generally very buggy, often crashes when you try to join a server, freelooking shows that your character's arms cease to exist outside of your normal view, etc.
- Paying anything close to full price is redundant due to it having been on Humble Bundle a while ago, keys are sold for basically nothing
- Despite it being launch day, there's only a single server with players in it, and most of them were complaining about the above issues

For a game that was supposed to be the next big thing, this is about as dead on arrival as it gets.

- No PvP meta deck sweating.
- M1A1 Abrams/OH-58 Kiowa/BM-21 Grad/etc. models don't look atrocious.
- Doesn't require a constant high-dose caffeine infusion to be playable.

11/10.

Operation Flashpoint: Elite on the original Xbox in 2005, a console port of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis from the year 2001, was a better, cheaper, less casualised version of Arma than this broken mess.

Anyone that says otherwise is outright lying to you, and I REALLY hope Arma 4 isn't going to be the same.

I did some of the voices for this game.

I'm the one that sounds like [insert generic Britbong YouTuber™ here].

Game's pretty fun, especially if you like Ace Combat.

I have been directly compared to Pyrocynical, I Hate Everything, and Wilbur Soot, please make it stop.

I played this before it came to Steam, an interesting take on Half Life mods where both you and the enemy are far more fragile than the base game, combat is very quick and precision-based.
