This game has had a slow but steady development, but is finally at very playable stage. In addition to the streaming and mod community, this game has a lot of replay-ability and the possibilities are endless. It doesn't take much to run, and like most open world survival games like DayZ, rely on you creating your goals with your own imagination and that's where it becomes really immersive and challenging. 8/10

Don't be swayed by the negative reviews! I hesitantly bought this game after having it on my wishlist for months. I'm glad I waited this long before buying the game (since it launched 2 years ago), as most of the glaring issues have been patched, and the game is still expanding.

I even PREFER this MMO style to actual Skyrim! Crazy, I know. This is a well polished MMO with great production values. Get it right now while it's on sale.

In the wake of the survival-game fever that seems to have spread like wildfire over the last 1-2 years comes The Long Dark. Set in the bleak and cold environment in the Canadian wilderness, you will have to stay warm, traverse the mountains and frozen landscapes, avoid the wildlife and scavenge to survive. While The Long Dark boasts a vastly improved, stable experience when compared to many other survival games in early access, it unfortunately falls short (for the moment). The reason I'm giving it a tentative thumbs up is because, as mentioned before, the experience itself is well optimised and stable for an early access game. Updates are relatively frequent, and there is decent communication between devs and the community. Here are the pros and cons -

+ THE GOOD +
- Well optimised experience
- Amazing atmosphere and artwork
- Immersive sound design
- An intuitive and easy to navigate UI

- THE BAD -
- After surviving a few days, you've pretty much seen all that the game has to offer
- Repetitive gameplay. You'll find yourself eating, travelling, eating, travelling, sleeping. Repeat.
- Limited map size. Although it's pegged as a sandbox, it is a small sandbox at that.
- Lack of purpose after a few days. There's simply nothing to do after a few days of surviving.
- Some bizarre survival mechanics. You dehydrate if you don't drink 1L of water a day, which seems a little much.

*SUMMARY*
A solid, stable sandbox experience that unfortunately leaves you scratching your head after a few days, as there is nothing to do. Sure, you could aim to craft that bow, or find that gun, or go fishing and become self sustainable - but all you're really doing is hopelessly extending your survival time in what ends up being a pretty bland world.

A bleak story that is well paced. Despite being heavy on the dialogue, a grim tale is woven cleverly into the sequences. Definitely keen to see Owl Cave's next offerings.

I was skeptical at first, but this game managed to hook me in for at least 1-2 hours when I first ran the game. The subtle character development features will have you hooked!

As a fan of point and click adventure titles, I decided to give The Charnel House Trilogy a try. I guess a sentimental part of me, coupled with my nostalgia enticed me to purchase this title, given the slew of positive reviews. In short - I am giving this a very hesitant thumbs up. While the story is engaging and mysterious enough, the game inevitably falls short with menial objectives, totally bizarre item placement void of logic, and overall a very short playthrough (I probably blitzed through the first chapter in 30 minutes or less). So why the thumbs up? To put simply - I want the devs to continue without being disheartened, and I always have a soft spot in my heart for indie point and clicks.

To keep things short, here are my points.

+ Story is compelling enough to follow through to the end (Somewhat)
+ Dedicated chapters keep things in bite sized pieces
+ Voice acting, for the most part, is average
+ Graphics fall in line with the typical point and click genre from devs such as Wadjet Eye

- Character development is paper thin
- Overall length of the game is extremely short
- Absolutely no puzzles or challenge is required to progress

Summary
An interesting enough story that falls short in its execution with uninteresting characters and dialogue, and bizarre progression that seems to escape logic (even for point and click standards). I would recommend it only to hardcore collectors of the point and click genre.

DayZ Standalone is a perfect example of the issues that the pre-alpha model faces. When games are sold on what they *might* become, and the features that are "coming", it reduces incentive for devs to actually meet these deadlines. After having played 500+ hours of the mod over 2 years, seeing the fundamental issues carried over to the standalone is rather disheartening.

You cannot make a stable game from a fundamentally broken engine that was never meant to handle the amount of scripts being implemented. The issues arising are what we are seeing now - intermittant hotfixes every month or so, while the fundamental game engine is broken and inefficient. Dean made an amazing mod, but attempting to carry this over to a standalone format was biting off more than he could chew. When Dean first introduced the dummy UI (about 1-2 years ago now) we're still seeing this SAME UI in the game today. DayZ has sold millions of copies on features that have not even been polished yet (3+ years in production). The bottom line is - the Arma engine was never meant to endure the amount of scripting dumped on top of it.

Now don't get me wrong, this isn't a hateful review, this is a logical and objective one. You are paying money based on hopeful outcomes, and blind trust that the devs will get it together and fix the issues (it took about a year to fix mouse accelleration, are you kidding me?) while these devs chase their tails fixing patches endlessly. For every patch this game releases, there is a hotfix to fix the new errors generated in the patch! This game will never be finished, and mark my words - in 2015 and beyond, the same issues are going to remain.

DayZ has sold millions of copies because it is an amazing experience - but it is an experience rife with issues, which can never truly be fixed due to the engine. Do yourself a favour and stick to what DayZ was destined to be - a great free mod for Arma, NOT a standalone game.

Minimal UI, interesting missions, no crosshair or health bar, and a buttload of tension. This game is for serious FPS players without the attention deficit disorder, respawn after respawn. This game punishes you for dying, and it's great. For serious players who want the polar opposite to COD.
