Counter-Strike, as a franchise has given us FPS masterpieces we've spent thousands of hours playing. CS:GO offers unparalleled strategic gameplay in competitive matchmaking, where the team that communicates best will beat a better team nine times out of ten. Featuring objective-based maps with one team playing as Terrorists attempting to plant a bomb and defend at one of two bomb-sites while the other team playing as Counter-Terrorists attempts to take the site and defuse the bomb. Positioning and awareness are rewarded in this game; knowing where enemies are coming from and being ready to shoot gives you the advantage.

You have an arsenal of weapons and equipment available to complete your missions: pistols with various ammo capacity, accuracy, fire rate, and damage offering a low-cost option when money is tight; submachine guns also with varying stats that perform better in certain situations and depend on your preference and budget; automatic rifles with varying stopping power, ammo capacity, range, and accuracy; sniper rifles; and grenades like flashbangs and smokes to incapacitate enemy vision, and explosive and incendiary grenades to damage enemies.

The depth of balanced options made this game exhilarating to play and rewarded skilled play and improvement to players wanted to get better.

Sadly, due to the December 8th patch, the things that made this game so great have been changed. Change is good - adding new features to the game to spice up stale gameplay and fixing balance issues are necessary to keep a game fun. I'm not mad about the new R8 Revolver; I think once it's balanced it'll provide an high-power economic alternative to the Desert Eagle.

I'm disappointed that this weapon was added as a distraction to serious gameplay changes that weren't an issue in the first place.

Players have practiced their tap and burst fire shooting to be more accurate, controlling their recoil and aim. The new patch added a random element to rifle shots, increasing the delay between shots to make spraying less effective than tapping or bursts. It actually made spraying more effective for bad players - the wider spray range means a higher chance to get a lucky headshot. If I spray beside an enemy, the cone of shots can now hit a wider area.

Bursts have been nerfed as a result because the longer recoil reset makes the 2nd and 3rd shots less accurate. Peeking an enemy and firing a burst their way requires good crosshair placement, counter-strafing, and reaction time. This has been punished by the patch. You have to peek more times since your shots will likely miss and if you attempt to stay still and tap-fire, the revolver or the AWP will show you what a dumb idea that was.

Pistols are a low-cost option for a team to save their money for a future round and get back in the game. Eco rounds are risky, as pistols don't do as much damage as rifles. Mobility is a big factor and being able to move around and shoot gives the eco team a hope in hell to win the round. The pistol movement accuracy nerf has made every pistol but the R8 and Deagle pointless. Buying a Five-Seven or P250 and aiming for the head of someone shooting an AK or M4 at you is risky, but if you position yourself and outplay your opponent, you can punish an inaccurate player. With the patch, the only viable option is the R8 revolver since you can run around and one-shot anyone. If you bought a $4750 AWP, you can get destroyed by an $850 pistol.

The round and bomb-timers have been shortened to make gameplay faster and pressure T-side to plant quicker and CT side to rush site faster. Why this was a serious idea, is beyond me. The game has worked for over 10 years with the same timers. It's not as big of a deal as the above changes but that's the reason why it shouldn't have been changed. It wasn't an issue in the first place. If pro players want timers changed, give them the option to do it; don't change it for everyone else who isn't affected.

Right now, I don't recommend this game. I'm unhappy that Valve wouldn't offer this as a trial to see how everyone responded. I don't think people would be as mad if they felt that their input was being considered in a massive game change. I hope Valve sees the backlash and takes it seriously; we don't hold grudges. We just want our game back.
