The Forever Winter gets many of the core concepts right. The atmosphere and art direction is immaculate, the combat loop and core premise seems to be solid at its base with a very innovative AI design based around threat ratings and the relative scale of everything on the battlefield, and the devs seem to have a competent and conservative grip on game monetization, and continued support.

Where the Forever Winter struggles is in the technical aspect of each of these. Movement can feel clunky at times, performance is shaky, and the AI is jank at times. Certain minor game mechanics and systems seem to be missing or broken.

In its current state Forever Winter is still a recommend for the fact that the core ideas are very competent and innovative. The issues that are there are technical issues that are solvable, opposed to other games that are flawed to their core.

The only big mechanic I have an issue with is water management. I understand the idea, however it feels arbitrarily punishing. Two things need to change with it, one or the other; First option is that running out of water should be more than just an arbitrary fail state that wipes your entire save, there needs to be a more nuanced approach that promotes the tone and core philosophy of the game. The other option is make water drain based on play action, not just a countdown timer. Potentially every raid decreases your water by x amount relative to x point of progress, something more than an offline countdown. In its current state it feels like an out of place attempt at forced player retention.

Overall a very interesting game with a lot of potential. I look forward to seeing it polished and grow into something good. It is very very early access, and you should be aware of the jank that comes along with that.

This game has had such a schizophrenic dev cycle but its turned out great. New update has fixed so much and feels so much more fluid. Glad I stuck it out and got to experience this great project. Hopefully Andrew can take some much needed rest while we enjoy the new update.

Low key gave me hydrophobia.

As you repeatedly get malled alive by hordes of zombies you will think to your self and say "I hate this game" But will keep coming back. Soon enough you've mastered PvE and your ready for online PvP. And then as you repeadetly get blown away you will say to yourself "Im done with this garbadge game" Yet wou will come back.

This is one of my favorite games in my library, I have over 200 hours on it and have enjoyed every minute. Its a zombie survival game thats actually some what challenging. Can't wait for 4.0!
