First and foremost, this is a brilliant game. The best way I can describe it is take XCOM: Enemy Unknown of 2012 and for every graphical superiority that game has that you take away, improve and refine an aspect of gameplay.
This is UFO/XCOM of 1994 as a similar IP, the aliens are named and look somewhat different, but you're looking at a lovingly crafted tribute that far surpasses it's inspiration. If you didn't play XCOM 2012 because it was different and therefore dirty compared to your rose-tinted nostalgia goggled view of UFO/XCOM then this will certainly float your nostalgic boat.

Gameplay wise, believe me that the moment you research stun batons you want 3 dudes with high TU packing a baton and a riot shield. Storming a downed UFO is a cakewalk when you just stroll in and punch everybody in the face :D

I only have two possible critiques and they are that while the sprites are quite detailed, you really can't tell one soldier from another so it's hard to build the kind of bond you had with your troops in XCOM 2012 and secondly the fixed isometric veiw can sometimes cause you to leave a soldier in your dropship because you forgot him/her as you can only see the top of their helmet, that's happened a couple of times but isn't even a serious problem as you might guess.
If those are the only two negatives my fussy butt can think of after around maybe 20 hours playtime it really boils down to one question:
Are you a graphics ♥♥♥♥♥?
If not, you really should buy this game!

Great game, great value for money, extremely addictive and eats the hours of your day like minutes
Don't let the simple graphics style put you off, this game plays a lot better than it looks. From simple early levels the game introduces new weapons and options into your arsenal and steadily picks up the difficulty. Gameplay is very good and purple goo makes a surprisingly scary enemy, especially in later levels where the flow of creeper encroaches on your base frighteningly fast.
Value for money wise this game really is great value. When I bought it it was marked down slightly to £10.70 and has already surpassed my requirement of giving me an hour of gameplay for every £1 I spent even if I'd paid the full price
If I had to put an arbitrary score on the game I'd happily give it a 9/10 on it's engaging gameplay, ability to make hours pass like minutes and value for money, only missing out on a point because it could maybe have been a little prettier to look at

Was a good game, I didn't mind the frequent DLC costing money. But microtransactions?
Nope, you've gone a bridge too far Overkill and you deserve all of the community backlash over this

Really enjoying this game! I kept looking at it and couldn't decide if I was going to buy it but I'm glad I finally did, has a surprising amount of depth, can be quite a challenge and has great humour. I love the fact that I'm old enough to recognise every real-world counterpart for all the gaming systems released.
Managing your money and growing out of your garage into a studio is pretty easy, but when you hit a dev studio and hire some staff, a couple of bad games can really make it's mark on your bank balance ^_^

TL:DR - Buy this

Fun game! A lot more depth than you might expect and after a few introduction levels it gets pretty bloody hard! Rewards planning more than it rewards fast fingers. Well worth it's price tag

Great gun mechanics, you will have fun reloading and playing with your gun... Then you will play the game and realise it's kinda crap... Personally I'd recommend you avoid this one

Amazing superlatively awesome turn-based strategy game. Can't believe I passed this up for so long...
Fair warning, the early game is quite bloody hard, but once your squad ranks up and your gear improves it becomes almost easy. I've had to play it on Easy difficulty so far but you bet I'll be playing this for a long long time. Bought Skyrim Dragonborn DLC at the same time and I havn't even redeemed the Steam code yet because I'm so hooked on this!

This is a fun little game. Sadly missing online multiplayer, because that would be awesome. A lot of people have been hating on it, it seems but I think it's got spades of charm. Local (one PC) multiplayer via splitscreen is something I must try... Hopefully I can find one of my friends who isn't a complete graphics ♥♥♥♥♥ to play it with me!
