This is a review, everything is subjective, if you think you'd like this game, go buy it and disregard strangers on the internet.

That being said, here's the deal: if you want to spend about 80 hours in a fun little 4 player co-op, meaty melee based, horde survival game for $40, this might be for you.

If you want a main game, something you can progress in, achieve milestones, spend leisure time in the world hub, and enjoy the game's community, this aint it.
If you want a complete game, full of customization, with varied gameplay and new mechanics on varied maps, this aint it.
If you are a returning player from the Vermintide series (as i was) looking for more of the variety, character, new mechanics, world building, story, and awe for the setting.... well, this for sure aint it.

Darktide is a huge departure in the both the depth and breadth of content.
- There is no story.
- There are less playable classes than Vermintide 1 (2015) and further classes will LIKELY be pay to play.
- There are more maps, but realistically, they just flipped some of them and shuffled objectives to pad the numbers.
- Maps are no longer iconic, catered experiences with unique climactic events that stand on their own
- They are a bland industrial visual mess with only 4 final objectives shared between them.
- There is no sign of any of the lessons learned in the development throughout Vermintide 1&2
(I suspect that much of the quality of life improvements from 2's crafting will be trickled out in a bread and circuses sort of way)
- Features and weapons promised at launch have not been delivered.

And the final nail in the coffin for my hopes for Darktide-based joy was the inclusion of a FAKE currency that may only be acquired with a REAL currency. This decision is predatory, anti consumer, and morally detestable. It's giving "Let's just charge $8 for blue check marks," levels of consumer appreciation and respect.

I was thoroughly excited for Darktide. I loved Vermintide 1 and 2 and felt pride in watching the growing pains of FatShark as game designers AND game publishers... but if this is where they think that journey brought them, if this is what they thought those lessons were teaching them, I'm getting off hype train. I honestly had so much more I wanted to say about this, but the truth is they're no longer worth it.

I am not looking forward to the release of further Darktide content.
I am no longer looking forward to the future of FatShark content.
For the first time in nearly a decade.

the blend of fantasy creatures and realistic physics makes the clash of armies in this game simply spectacular. I love it.
