At concept sounds like an amazing idea with interesting gameplay, I don't know what others consider "relaxing" but minute long gameplay doesn't fit the bill for me. I enjoyed the style of Imprint-X and bought this because of that, even though I like a lot of roguelike games, this does nothing but annoy me.

If you aren't recieving it as a bonus from the Bloodstained campaign, the price is very decent for the content you will be getting.

Compared to classic titles, the difficulty is quite a bit lower, so keep in mind it isn't going to be an ultimate challenge. Classic gameplay is absolutely recreated here though, knockback when taking damage and unstoppable jump arcs that take some getting used to again. It should go without saying how nostalgic it feels to play, but it also can't be overstated. This isn't just a retro styled throwback, with graphics, gameplay, and music all completely identical to what you remember, while running much more smoothly with modern tech. It's a homerun for me, and I hope even after the main game is released, we will continue to see more from IGA.

I am failing to see the draw of this game, Yahtzee and a generally positive response made me check it out, but gameplay seems to be based on the new idea of frustratingly difficult, and repetitive memorization. I can't understand this trend, despite how hard I try. I like games that are "FUN" to play, not that punish me for not possessing knowledge that can only be gained by failing hundreds of times and memorizing enemy actions/reactions.

While the graphics and story may be compelling, at core gameplay is what really makes a game interesting, I feel this title is severly lacking in that regard and am baffled by the overwhelmingly posititve response to it. Beautiful? Yes. Compelling story, from the tiny bits I got, sure. Fun? Absolutely not. I've never turned on a game so quickly as this in my entire life. The wild, deep story it apparently tries to sell you quickly took a backseat to gameplay that demanded perfection even from the tutorial stage. Whether my refund is approved or not, any interaction I have with this game in the future will be second-hand through a walkthrough or YT-LP. Frustration does not make me want to continue, Demon/Dark Souls never had this level of annoyance. Boo x 100.

Atmosphere and unsolved mysteries are the biggest selling point, you will basically know from the trailer whether you would enjoy the game or not.

Gameplay is fairly basic puzzle-platforming style, and length is average at best ( probably 6-8 hours for most ). Personally I used a controller which felt pretty tight and responsive.

It may be a bit too simple for some, the challenge is not too high, but I was compelled enough to finish the game. Don't go into it expecting answers, just enjoy the questions.

A rare occasion in hacking games is playing a normal guy/girl. You are not an elite hacker, or activist making clandestine moves against the man. At least you don't start that way, which allows you to get into the role a lot better than being told who you are. Sebastian starts out completely in the dark, just as the player and with all the cheering about games that don't hold your hand, this one has gotten a lot of flak for that very same reason. I think it's really the camera that will break your heart though. Replayability is pretty much required as it will take a lot of time just to get a sense of the city.

Hacking/Programming is also very unique compared to other hacking games as everything from coffee, to doors, to turtles are open for your crazy experimentation.

* Find song names scattered around in jukeboxes and discs and program your hand radio to play your faves!
* Low on cash? Repurpose an arcade cabinet into an ATM! (one of my favorite projects :)
* Looking for someone you can't find? Hack into one of the tourist placefinders and program it to lead you to him/her!

The possibilities may not be endless, but you aren't likely to run out of things to do. Just make your own fun and don't blame the game for not 'giving' you a purpose! It's kind of a life simulator in that way and you need to make your own path. It can undoubtedly be frustrating, but there is a lot of reward and fun waiting on the other side of that.

TL;DR - Try again.

While I still don't like the naming convention of using the exact title from a previous installment, in this case it's somewhat appropriate. Playing DOOM really feels like playing Doom, as if it were created for the first time in this generation. Still, this would have had no problem being called Doom 4 as it is graciously a sequel and not a remake.

So far I just tried the first level during the free weekend, I'm only writing a review now because I knew a minute in I would be buying it. It's not hype, it's not nostalgia, it is that good. If you liked the originals or even 3, you're pretty sure to like this (too obvious?). If not, well I think Farming Simulator 2017 is still on sale!

Even as an advocate of early access and in-dev titles in the past, I've recently been avoiding them almost entirely. Something about this game just made me curioius and I bought it on a whim after playing a decent amount of other hacking games.
Just keep in mind that early access means the very real possibility of bugs and crashes, unbalanced gameplay, and just the general "unfinished" feel. So you should expect this. That said, the dev on this project is EXTREMELY responsive to feedback and on top of any bugs reported. I have no question that he truly respects the opinions of the fanbase and honestly wants to make his game better. Every time I've posted a bug on the forum, it has been fixed in less than 24 hours!

OK, but what about the actual game?
-There's a good bit of repitition as you can expect with most hacking games, but in this case you are navigating systems in an FPS style, rather than typing into a console. That may turn off a lot of people right away as "totally not hacking".

-An RPG style upgrade system lets you get better at the things you want to focus on. If you like the combat, fighting more IC's will level you up. If you prefer to break passwords and spoof user accounts, your stealth rating will increase. Not an entirely new concept, but in a hacking game it hasn't been greatly explored so far.

-You have a bit of work to start understanding how the gameplay goes, and it can be frustrating and confusing. My advice is to read all the tutorial screens and absorb the most relevant info at the time. You can refer back anytime for whatever starts to confuse you.

- TL;DR version -
What this boils down to is just so;
-If you want to play a hacking game that isn't like most hacking games then definitely check it out.
-If the screenshots interest you and you aren't afraid of learning how to play a game while playing it, download it.
-If you want to support Indie devs who are here to make the best game they can, and not take your money and run, buy it.
BUT,
-If you don't like the idea of early access and want to play a finished game, don't buy it.
-If you're looking for the next Uplink, Hacknet, [your fav hack game here], dont't buy it.

Very fun and a lot to explore, but I find it interesting there's a quote from Notch on this page when one of the devs recently mentioned how much he hates Minecraft. Also the game was originally (partially) inspired by factorization mods for Minecraft. But I guess it's "cool" to hate it now, huh?

Would make a much, much better short story than a game, there is no gameplay other than rush to the 'exit portal'. The exit portal is a box you push off of a platform. Read that again to make sure you understood it...ok?

A race against time as your hunger/thirst and then health constantly drain, you must pick up food and drink along the way, kinda basic but not a big deal. The real pain is all the enemies wandering around like statues on wheels, and no way whatsoever to attack or defend, just avoid everything and rush to the exit. Even rushing through the levels wouldn't be so bad if there were anything interesting to see. Graphics are decent, but look like they may be taken from a free texture site, and without any animations aside from your character even that is below average.

It would be bad enough without the bugs, but holy crap are there bugs. Keep in mind this is not a pre-alpha or in-development, THIS IS THE GAME! Only buy if you have a great sense of humor or as a drinking game or something, otherwise give your $2 to a homeless person.

TL;DR - The experiment was a DISASTER.

I considered posting a one word review consisting simply of, "Wow", but this game Abzulutely deserve more. *snicker*

If finishing Journey, getting all the collectibles and easter eggs, then replaying it a dozen more times still left you wanting more, this is it. It has the same feel of a world with a story to tell, containing no text or speech to tell it, relying solely on visual awe. It's less of something to tell than something to feel, which I belive makes it more of an experience than just "something you play".

So far I see only two drawbacks;

1. I wish it had the co-op-ish gameplay that Journey had, randomly connecting two players who are in-game and in the same area at the same time. Seeing another person playing around or helping you find some secret or interesting place, which you in turn do for another once you have played through and found them was a really great addition.

2. Sometimes it's hard to see all the wonderous beauty because of a flood of tears.

I've barely started playing, but I know what I'm in for here, I can't recommend this highly enough for anyone who loves exploration, casual gameplay, or has something stuck in their eye.

10,000/10
