So no sh!t there I was....

DCS is many, many things...forgiving is not one of them. This game will test your patience, and sanity. The learning curve the steepest I've ever encountered. That being said....once you get over your pride, and actually start watching tutorials on how to fly the plane(s) you'll inevitably end up buying.....it's one of the most rewarding games you'll find. I've got a little less than 400 hours logged on it, most of that being VR time. The game is absolutely still a blast to play just on screen, but VR or track IR bring in a whole different level of immersion than you've experienced in a game. From what I've experienced, the community is great too. Very supportive. One thing you'll be a pro at in no time....mapping a HOTAS.
