On 2 May 2017, an article containing the claim that President Trump had hailed KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders as a Civil War Hero.

Trump insisted Col. Harland Sanders, whom he called a “tremendous Civil War hero,” once saved an entire army at Valley Forge from certain starvation. Trump, a noted fan of Kentucky Fried Chicken, explained how Col. Sanders took five loaves of Evangeline Maid bread and two chickens, added his secret blend of 11 herbs and spices, and turned these humble ingredients into delicious meals that lasted an entire winter.

KFC took inspiration from President Donald Trump as it took a dig at McDonald's on Twitter.

Aiming a swipe at its rival's mascot on Wednesday morning, the KFC UK & Ireland Twitter account said: 'McDonald's leader Ronald just stated he has a "burger on his desk at all times".

'Will someone from his big shoed, red nosed regime inform him that I too have a burger on my desk, but mine is a box meal which is bigger and more powerful than his, and mine has gravy!'

The tweet was a clear parody of President Trump's statement that his nuclear button was 'much bigger and more powerful' than that of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un.

KFC's comment has so far been retweeted more than 24,000 times, while McDonalds has yet to respond.

The Australian arm of the fast-food chain KFC has been accused of racial insensitivity over a television commercial showing an outnumbered white cricket fan handing out pieces of fried chicken to appease a dancing, drumming and singing group of black West Indian supporters.

On 1 September 2020, McDonald's was sued by 50 black owners for racial discrimination. According to the lawsuit, McDonald's steered black franchisees to stores which had lower revenue and higher security expenses than stores in more affluent areas.

A KFC television ad has been cleared of perpetuating negative stereotypes.
