One of the better roguelike card games with its own take on the roguelike formula, highly recommend as it gives really nice combos you can try out. Definitely has a steeper learning curve.

Personally wouldn't recommend it, the game is very imbalanced and lacks any feeling of achievement.

Ending is extremely lack luster as well.

Its fun until you realize that is it, then it becomes boring - this probably will happen to you around the 3rd boss.

Early Access Review
This will probably spawn afew clones as its got a good core mechanic, but personally this first version is pretty terrible in terms of roguelike gameplay, I'll list the pros and cons below:

Pros:

- Pretty cool core mechanic, not sure if its done before but first time I've come across it
- Hits dopamine levels once you get your combo going, feels really good to see those big one shot numbers

Cons:

- Level design makes it so that area 1 is the only challenge, everything past level 1 is basically designed to let you play around with your build as its so easy since the monsters do basically no damage and the level design sets you up for near infinite combos, not to mention that the boss relics some are just plain broken. Compared to area 1 where a lot of the stage designs just make it almost impossible to combo well.
- Damage scaling is basically non existent for enemies, they all do roughly the same damage from area 1 to area 3, the only difference is their hp pools and how quickly they can start doing the damage, but since the players damage scales so much faster its just a joke. (example around area 2 you should be doing around 300-500 damage per ball throw unless its a stone, enemies only have like 150-400? hp, and that damage is on the low end, I was already hitting 2000+ on first few runs)
- Area 1 relies super heavily on bombs to pass the mini boss encounters and some of the normal mob encounters since they do so much more damage then you'll probably do with a single stone toss and they are also AoE.
- Limited pool of balls, there is basically very little variety right now and within that limited variety some of the orbs are just plain useless (looking at you echo orb and obelisk orb)
- Extremely broken relics, some relics like the +3 durable to all pegs are just way too strong and almost nothing else can compare to it, this of course is a balancing issue that can be solved in the long run. Another extremely broken relic is the corn which heals +1 every 12 pegs, it basically makes you immortal in area 2 onwards.
- Limited gameplay styles, right now there is basically 2 builds, bomb build and not bomb build. The other builds all feel basically the same since they don't really interact much differently with each other (aka no real unique synergies)

There is probably more about this game that I could probably write about, but its early access so I'll leave it at that and see what they change up, and of course the price tag is extremely terrible.

If you are looking to scratch a roguelike deck builder itch, eh...maybe its not terrible it just doesn't really have much content right now - obviously the day 1 dlc sucks and if thats how the future of this game is going to be like for updates - thats a hard pass for me.

Overall the game balance is pretty non-existent, You are way too overpowered, i'm talking like 500 damage turn 1, or infinite mana/draw or the various other broken combos - this happens fairly easily since it doesn't require many cards for this to happen (i'm talking like 1 card and 1 gem), your deck starts out pretty thin and most of the cards are a hard pass, as most deckbuilder players know, bigger decks doesn't mean better. They do however promote taking cards with the talent system where your deck size unlocks talents, but then you just take cycle cards that cost 0 or you socket them to cost 0.

I would like to give a mention to its exploration system, I do enjoy the aspect and i think its nicely done - however having certainty that things exist in certain numbers on each floor kinda feels like a major flaw in the system. (you know there are 1 or 2 gems to grab, 1 or 2 wells etc... depending on your upgrade level) I would much prefer this to be random.

There doesn't seem like many cards currently for each character. Getting them all doesn't take too long as once you hit level 10 on each characters you've unlocked everything, this takes about 3~ or so runs, assuming you take a new difficulty at the start of each run.

Balance patches are apparently coming, but in the current state of the game I don't recommend the game, considering the price tag, content and not to mention dlc path of content - I would pass on this unless you don't care about money and just want something new to play.

I highly do not recommend this game, if you expected a game with a decent amount of content and replayability, this isn't the game for you. There is little to no content and you experience most of the content in less then 3hours, its not worth the asking price and If I could I would refund this game.

The Tech tree is tiny and what exists is mainly useless.
Building in this game is pretty much pointless, you don't need a permanent base as everything is so easily built and there is no indepth tech requirements.
Majority of Cooking is next to pointless, since it really only gives you hp and potentially useless buffs. The reason why hp is useless is cause the enemies don't really scale at all, there are very few enemy types and once you get any metal weapon it becomes a walk in the park.
The whole monkey system is pretty cool, but its also pretty pointless - the only time I used the monkeys was to help build all the materials to end the game - aside from that there was little use to them, since they get stuck in the labyrinths if you meet a spike pit.

There just isn't enough content, its basically a cheap mobile app game that you play for acouple of days then finish and put down. Its not worth 1/3rd of a AAA game.

At the current writing of this review, majority of co-op is designed poorly and not tested. Literally first battle cannot be done coop cause your partner can't attack or move.

I've put the game on hold until a patch attempts to fix this issue, but as of now I cannot recommend this game if you are looking to have a coop experience.

Personally I think the story was lacking, imagine 8 really really short stories (some shorter or less involved then others) and each and every story has the exact same mechanic to solve (start at town -> talk abit -> use special social ability -> tiny "dungeon" -> boss).

Battle wise its roughly the same as all other turn based games in the FF series, it doesn't bring anything new to the table and is actually blander then most of the other titles.

Its definitely a playable game, but not sure if I'd say its a good game.

I usually wouldn't rate a game good, as most games now days are mediocre or just our right bad, but every now and then you find a gem that you just have to agree that this is a good game.

I've played ROR1 very minimally and was pretty much hooked on its mechanics, found out ROR2 was in early access not too long after that and have been playing since it first released in EA.

The developers have pretty much given the players what they wanted in almost every patch and if you are looking for a CO-OP game to play with your other friends. I would definitely recommend this, it will be a massively time sink.

But with everything that is overall good there are some bad points - I feel like the alternate setups for each character aren't always that great, good example is engineers alternate turrets, without spoiling it - one of the core items he uses is rendered un-usable. This of course would mean you have to use new strats but it doesn't really offer anything different.

Overall definitely recommend buying this game and giving it a whirl, but its much better played with friends then by yourself.
