This is someone's love letter to Resident Evil, and it's a damn good read.

The Pathologic 2 demo turned into a separate 2-3hr DLC.

This self-contained story is very good on what the narrative delivers on and is not at all like the main game when to comes to the management of resources for survival. It may be worth for new adopters to play it first if they have the option to do so.

The story in this segment is great. But it is far from the polished experience I came to expect from the main game - its very easy to get lost (and in my case I thought I was bugged since I couldn't find the one NPC - the guard who would allow me to advance the story). Also there is no save data if you restart your game while playing.

Treat it like a one-shot demo and you won't be disappointed.

Absolutely fantastic survival game with a narrative that likes to break the 4th wall over and over.

Brilliant story that gets you on the ups and downs of everyday life with some drama in-between. The characters are awesome though, and if you don't dig the 18+ material, your best friend in this game is worth this price tag.

Just finished this in a straight 13hr sitting. Haven't felt this innocently immersed in a adventure game in awhile.

For those who don't know what this is, its a kind of puzzle-adventure game in first person.

Its like Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (exploring islands at sea and puzzling the end game route) mixed with the time loop of Majora's Mask. Unlike LoZ there is no combat here and that turns out pretty well in itself - the core loop is really fun and design quality overall is high so who cares.

Pros:
* Music is bae (chill/relaxing)
* Writing is on-point (charming at times and concise, good)
* Artwork is fantastic (simplistic style but works very well and diversified)
* Gameplay mechanics are simple but used really well
* Level design quite good
* Story is enticing (at least for the first half or so)

Cons:
* Story becomes a bit lackluster once the puzzle pieces fall into place.
* Time constraints on certain elements of the game can lead to frustration where a missed window can lead to having to restart that loop every time you fail.
* Game end sequence is very easy to mess up due to time constraints and navigating the endgame environment.

Worth noting that the game does not hold your hand. If you've missed an important event or piece of information, you will get stuck. For example if you forget to look for sound cues and rely too heavily on your log then it can easily seem like a dead end. I had to look up guides a couple times because of this.

For those familiar to this genre or have played Majora's Mask before, this probably all sounds familiar. If you liked that or any Legend of Zelda game then this should feel right in your wallet.

I want to say its fun and its gameplay is solid. I do want to warn some of you however, this game is far from original.
I feel like this game takes the best of gameplay mechanics from several similar series, drops them in a somewhat generic setting that quickly becomes uninteresting.

Think of it like this. If you've played Dishonored (1,2), Deus Ex (1,3,4), Bioshock (1,2,3), System Shock (1,2), you will see shockingly similar gameplay in terms of: Perks (not done well in this game tbh, a bit boring), FPS feel, Inventory, looting. You may think I have listed a mere few aspects, but this is actually the majority of what you do. You proceed through the story, find (or make) perk upgrades, kill generic enemies (interesting at start, boring quickly), go through objectives, loot stuff to make more perk points or ammo, see different zones, rinse and repeat.

My advice, if you've played more than 3 of the games I've listed above, don't spend £40 on it, wait for a sale. Sadly there's just not enough originality here to make me feel like I can get into it. In dishonored you have stronger characters, more entertaining powers and the ability to stealth approach or have a variety of approaches through the great level design. Prey does what it can, but you're on a space station, you're constricted in the approaches you can do, and this often results in shooty shooty bang bang with a shotgun and 9mm pstol that could have existed in any other game. Deus Ex by comparison has better characters, more interesting perks, level design and stealth is just so damn fun.

I like Arkane Studios, they ARE the guys who made Dishonored and some other games I enjoy like Dark Messiah (kick to win). But this is not one of those games that I feel manages to stand on its own with a solid identity. If you're not used to these kinds of games, then Prey will probably leave a good impression on you. This game reaches the point where I was forgetting I was actually mid way through a playthrough of it.
