Fast paced and action packed, FatShark have yet again nailed the feel of the Warhammer universe with visceral melee combat and deep mechanics. A lot of the problems people had with it when it first released have been patched and the game is in a really healthy state. The only thing it needs now is more content!

Possibly the most simple and addictive game play loop ever. Imagine a cross between Castlevania and Risk of Rain 2 had a baby and then blood sacrificed it to the god of death and you have Vampire Survivors.

I was going to talk about all anti-abortion stuff the CEO supports, but let's just step back and look at the state of the game:

The core gameplay loop is pretty solid. Kill things, get money, use it to buy better weapons to kill bigger things. However, within this structure, you only have a few variables: The places you kill things, the weapons you kill them with and the things you kill.

So, how have Tripwire decided to build on this core? Microtransactions and loot crates. You want more weapons? buy them. you want more skins? Buy them. You want more enemies? buy th- you can't, we haven't made any.

The minute this game introduced a TF2 style loot box drops which you need to buy "keys" to open was the minute the game died and deservedly so.

It's getting harder and harder to find a build I want to play instead of having to crank the increasingly narrow handful of meta builds which can tackle all content. Sadly, it seems like GGG are either consciously doing this as a design decision or they lack the competency to develop away from it. I hope one day things go in a different direction than the one of frustration in order to artificially lengthen the endgame, but I doubt it. For now, I can't in good conscience recommend this game to anyone in the current state it's in.
