Fantastic PVE co-op game.

All in all, I think a vast improvement over the first game in almost every aspect.
The combat is well done and the attention to detail is incredible.
I've frankly never even heard of a horde mechanic of this caliber in any other IP.
Its the most accurate representation of a Tyranid invasion i've ever seen.
(With some small nit-picks. If its a hive-mind, why doesnt the Tyranid over there know his buddy here just died?)

The Gameplay loop is addicting and varied in playstyles (The class you pick, the weapon you use)
To the point where a small amount of missions and a short campaign is not much of an issue.
The feedback you get from the melee and the performance of the overall sandbox is incredibly addicting.
You feel like the walking tank a space marine is supposed to feel like. With powerful melee weapons that provide great feedback, and ranged weaponry that both feel and sound heavy in the right way.

Even the lore details are, sometimes to a fault, way more than i'd have expected.
The synaptic shocks when killing larger beasts around the smaller ones.
The rubric marines are living armor, which is expertly portrayed when defeated.

This specific Chaos enemy here is also a breath of fresh air.

The set-pieces and the character made me feel, as a big 40k fan, a way i don't often feel currently.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Theres a lot of praise. Which does make the negatives stick out. And i cant write a review without mentioning them.
Its a positive review. However i need to highlight some issues:

Why did i write "to a fault" above?
Because multiplayer customization for the chaos marines.
Cant have snipers for certain warbands, for example.
If you take those restriction seriously, your game suffers.
Also cant use Chaos Marines in PVE.
If you can ignore the details of the Tyranid Hive-mind, You should be able to ignore this.
Theres people in PVE rocking chaos insignia anyways. The jig is up lol.

-Progression and Customization leaves a lot to be desired.
Basic colors are locked behind DLC thats over half the price of the full game.
I dont buy big editions of games anymore, because i don't want incentive to not use stuff i unlock myself.
The result here is some colors (including paints i actually own irl) are locked behind a paywall.
(Theres currently no purple unless you pay more money. Yup. No purple. Theres one. its DLC.)
Theres no progression pass of any kind. Instead theres purchaseable cosmetic bundles labeled a "season"

The weapon XP Progression is extremely un-fulfilling, and aren't granted per kill but rather per mission.
Also, if you dont complete the mission to get the tokens, you cant continue leveling up your weapons.
Yes, Your XP gain depends entirely on mission completion. Which of course creates issues.
Like people rushing through it and punishing you for actually playing the game.
The progression in general, both weapon and perks, contains a lot more Re-specing than actual progression.

-Having the PVE tied in so closely to the campaign.
This creates some issues.
Set-pieces you'd think would be reserved for the campaign, are reserved for the PVE co-op mode instead of being present and possible for both.
The Hive Tyrant.
And where i would have expected a more open sandbox, it just feels like shorter campaign missions.
They were clearly very strictly tied down in what they could do here, and thats a shame imo.
Like, Again, Not allowing chaos marines in PVE modes.

-The Deathwatch intro would have been better approach.
Having a game focused on the Deathwatch could have some advantages.
A: You avoid Primaris.
B: You open up the weapon sandbox to a lot of things. (seriously. Look at their Arsenal.)
C: You open up customization for the campaign. A deathwatch marine can be anybody. And nobody.
D: You avoid Primaris.

The result of going to Ultramarines Primaris is you get the most sanitized chapter with a lot of repeat weaponry the devs clearly struggled to differentiate. This is GW's fault though, Not the devs.

-Sometimes, the set-pieces arent more than that.
If you think you're going to control a vehicle, or even fight a vehicle, You're not.
They either just exist around you to look pretty, or its a burning wreck in your path.
The aircrafts? Just a loading screen.

-Why did you launch a co-op game without private sessions?

-------------------------------

That was a lot of negatives, in a positive review. It comes from a place of love, genuinely.
I want this and more like it to succeed.
I think they have a gem of a game here with a level of care and attention i dont often see, especially for this genre.
I'll continue playing this for a long time and i think you should as well.

Bro one of my loading screens on Mars was using an elevator to the next floor of the same room.
It feels like the SSD requirement for the game isnt utilized at all.

The game genuinely doesn't deserve a mixed rating.

If you despised the artillery spam, heavy tank spam and always seeing the exact same commander in CoH2, You'll have a better time here. The game gets updates to its balance more often than most games in similar positions.

I consider this a significant step up in terms of Gameplay, from CoH2.
It combines aspects of CoH1 and CoH2 while delivering its own on top of it.
For example, it returns to the Doctrine style of CoH1 as opposed to commander selection.
And ultra light vehicles, Light vehicles and light tanks play a much larger role in the mid/late game.

It has less players than CoH2, but i wish the CoH2 people would give it more of a shot.
Theres a gem here thats far, far better than CoH2 was in ITS first year, and its going to improve far beyond it.

'If someone tells me that I've hurt their feelings, I say, "Well I'm still waiting to hear what your point is".' -Christopher Hitchens.

Banning people instantly for casual banter that hurts no one is ridiculous.
I've not been banned, since i dont normally partake in this. But forgive me for not supporting borderline fascism.

How about you just allow us to gag ( Text mute ) specific people instead?
HOW ABOUT THAT?
R E T A R D S.
This is so stupid. People are just gonna dodge and weave around the bad no no words.
So you essentially accomplished nothing. Congratulations. I love inventing new cringy slang that everybody hates.

And just allowing gags would instantly fix whatever problem any snowflake cupcake flowergirl picnic basket has with the chat.

"nah, lets insta ban people instead for harmless banter"
great. And you probably dont even feel shame for this either.
Awful.

You dont just get banned for the worst offenses here btw.
Some are hilariously harmless. I could give examples, but would i be banned?

And Jake solomon (XCOM) can go to hell for encouraging this awful practise.
Claiming it should be the standard. Were any of these devs ever casual gamers themselves?
Or are they just listening to a vocal minority.

Thank you for protecting me from REALITY ubisoft.

"OOH NO, ITS REALITY, CLOSE YOUR EYES!" - TJ Kirk.

EDIT:::::::::::

I COMPLETELY forgot about the fact that theres always one ♥♥♥♥ in every game now trying to BAIT people into saying bad no no words that hurts ubi's feelings and get them INSTANTLY banned.

"Whats cartmans superhero name in south park?" "The ♥♥♥♥!"

YOU'RE BANNED.

GREAT SYSTEM.

Perfectly simulated the phrase Illusion of choice for me.

Felt there was a lot less 'game' to this one compared to the first season.

>Picked up the game on sale, highly recommend you do the same<

..Made a good movie tho.
