Here's the truth about the micro transactions: You do not need them at all.

Are they scummy? Yes, absolutely and Cap-Com should be ashamed for adding them at all.

Do they impact the game/game-play in any meaningful way? NO.

All of the micro transaction items, including Rift Crystals, can be earned just by playing the game. The same goes for the character editor, just visit a barber in any city and spend gold to change your appearance. I understand the outrage from the community, after dropping $80-$100 on a SP game only to see micro transactions appear in your DLC , feels like a slap in the face. However, the game at its core is a lot of fun. The systems are great, exploration is fantastic and engaging, and the game encourages you to do things your own way.

But how is the performance? Its not great. And if you are on the fence with this game I encourage you to wait until they at least patch it so it runs better. I run a 4070 TI super, Ryzen 7 CPU, and 16 gigs of ram and I can easily maintain 60 FPS in the forests and open world, but damn do the cities and caves tank my performance. In Vermund my performance dropped down 30FPS and in some caves it dropped down to 25FPS. Doesn't feel great to have to avoid some of the places that should be the most fun to explore. But if they can optimize the game its a truly fun experience.

My biggest complaint is the baffling decision to only give the player one save file with no option to delete your character or start a new game. Why do this? What possible benefit does this give to your community? None. Its frustrating and honestly made me question my purchase at first. Although I still feel like the game is fun and worth your time, this may be a deal breaker for some people. I know it almost was for me.

So should you buy the game? If you are absolutely craving a fantasy action RPG with great combat, an excellent world to explore, and giant monster to slay, I would say yes, but wait for a performance patch.

If you are on the fence, I would wait either for a sale or for an update from the devs.

Perhaps one of the greatest Total War titels to date. Gameplay is exhilerating. There is nothing quite like conquering the world with legions of the undead, or watching battle wizards lay waste to the enemy's front lines right before your cavalary charge mops up what is left of the poor sods. The Vortex Campaign is inredibly fun, and gives players something other to focus on rather than just world domination fueling their machinations. The new Vampire Coast DLC is my favorite thus far in this entire series, and adds a boat-load (he he) of new mechanics that help this new factions feel unique and keep me wanting to play. No two pirate lords are alike in this DLC and thus the replay value is extremely high, as each lord has his or her own aspirations, questlines, and unique units.

In short, buy this game and the Vampire Coast DLC, you will not be dissapointed.

Honestly one of the best Total War titles out there. Great graphics. Battles are fun and cinematic. Politics and family trees are implemented and balanced well. The factions are varied and present some very unique challenges and gameplay functions. Although some people find the grand campaign mechanics a bit troublesome, I like the challenge it presents with the sporadic bursts of famine, and the abiltiy for some factions *cough cough* the Huns *cough cough* , to raze settlements. These features give the game a very dreary, apocalyptic feel that you will not find in any other total war game.

Okay I usually don't write reviews, but I feel the need to do so now. This game is beautiful. It has a great atmosphere that I really have not found in other games. The sound quality is good, the combat is fun, getting chased by dinosaurs is exhilerating, etc. These aspects of the game are very well done. However, the gameplay is just too grindy. Now I know its a survival game, and grinding is an apect of that genre, but wow does it take a long time to do anything in this game. Want a house? That will be several hours of grinding. Want a weapon that isnt made of stone? That will be several more hours. Want a dinosaur? I think you get the point.

Maybe for some people the grind is enjoyable, but I personally hate it. In nine hours I still could not tame a disnosaur, nor could I build a house. Maybe I just suck at this game, but the grindiness of this game is something that you as the buyer should be aware of. I hope that was helpful.
