So far, this game has been absolutely amazing. Certainly a boomer shooter fans of the genre will enjoy. There are some light RPG elements that help to improve game play, but it's certainly a shooter first. Speaking of, there are a ton of fun impactful weapons to use that are quite varied, from boomsticks to spell books and beyond. There is story stuff for people who want it, but so far it's not been super intrusive. It's definitely worth a try.

I had entered Conan Exiles early on in early access. I am a fan of the universe of Conan and there are so few games with the Conan IP. In early access I would admit that combat was downright boring and utterly unimpactful. Upon launch this was greatly improved, however, I have had issues at times with connecting my attacks. Admittedly this might just be a connection issue. As this is a survival sandbox, there will be the repetive ritual of gathering materials to build and otherwise craft equipment. If you already have a bad taste for this genre go ahead and give this a pass. Story is there, but you really have to look for it and often have to be of siginificant level to be able to survive in the area's where these nuggets of story are. Building systems are serviceable, as is the character creator, which was improved slightly with launch, though I still wish it was a bit more involved. So far as pacing, with full launch it seems easier to level, at least initially. Some enemies are utterly easy while others are a stark contrast requiring much more strategy, gear, and levels. I have appreciated the devs transperancy and they have expressed a desire to continue developing the game. While that remains to be seen, I have had a great time. I would recommend this for fans of survival games and anyone who is a pre existing fan of this IP.
