Life is Strange True Colors is a return to the tried and tested formula of Dontnod's original and Deck Nine's Before the Storm: a mix of young adult fiction and small town mystery.

If you expect great innovation for the series in any aspect you will be disappointed. The gameplay still revolves around exploring locations (albeit some of them noticeably larger than before), listening to the thoughts of the main protagonist, talking to different characters and solving some easy, little puzzles.

The greatest evolution will be noticed in the motion capturing and improved graphics. Facial and character animations are far superior to any earlier installment of the series and graphically the game looks beautiful all while keeping the familiar Life is Strange style.

That said, if you like the other Life is Strange games or Dontnod's Tell me Why or Twin Mirror you will like this game as well.
The game still takes place in a charming little town in front of a magnificent scenery. Characters and dialogues are excellently written, voice acting is mostly great (especially for Gabe Chen), the main character's power fits both the story and the gameplay and is fun to use.

With a playtime of around 15 hours for the main game and 2 - 3 hours for the Wavelengths DLC the game is a little bit shorter than the original but still acceptable for the price.

The biggest problem with the game, is the plot and the decisions you make in the process. The narrative is interesting but too short for the game's length. It drags along too much in chapters 2, 3 and 4. Although the finale is pretty good with a nice twist, it reveals another problem of the story: your decisions throughout the game.
The choices you make pretty much only affect how people react or speak to you, the ending practically plays out the same no matter how you handled the situations earlier. Despite all that, the conclusion is still well done and very satisfying.

TLDR
- Must play for fans of the series (and Steph fans)
- Recommended for fans of narrative-driven games
- Pass or wait for sale for everybody else

Intriguing opening and beautiful setting. Great banter between the two main characters with excellent voice acting! Sadly the gameplay puts you to sleep and 3 hours for a complete playthrough is a joke. The ending of the story is an insult (no answers to all the questions raised at all)!
Only worth it if you get the game for free.
