If you want to play pvp at all forget about it, at least for now. Both disconnections and lag are still a pretty common issue (though it's been improved a bit with patches).

When invading, you may find afk farmers that are unreachable. After you leave their world and invade again, the game may matchmake you again against them, putting you in a constant cycle of boredom and frustration. A similar thing happens with parties of people having one or two high level players that one-shot you and make fights straight up garbage, be ready to face them repeatedly.

TL;DR: If you want pvp better go for duels or prepare to be frustrated. Coop can be a little tedious due to connection issues, but you can make it work. Singleplayer is fine, and you'll probably like it if you enjoyed FromSoft's past titles.
