Near perfect game, especially when compared to the trash that is DAV

I love this game, I think that this new expansions story was interesting to an extent and Im writing this review after a certain moment in the MSQ with a 1 headed lizard. After this singular moment it really encapsulated my frustration with this entire 7.0 MSQ storyline. I really dont mind being second fiddle and just advising a new main cast but there were some moments in this storyline where we were so incredibly inept to the point of the story leaving a bad taste in my mouth that culminated in this event with again a specific 1 headed lizard. Maybe ill like how it ends but as it is right now I absolutely despise the story just because we are being so lackadaisical in these moments of martial prowess where we should absolutely step in and stop the evil ♥♥♥♥ that is happening from happening. Get your story writing shi/t together Square.

Edit: Just finished the story and gonna keep my review as negative. The last zone was actually offensive when taking into account all the previous expansions and narratives. I hope the cooks either re-evaluate or we get new cooks for the .x expansions because this was probably the worst expac that CBU3 has put out as it relates to the story. The encounters have been good and the music has been good for the most part except for that last cringe song lol.

Without spoilers the first 2 acts of the game are exemplary in terms of narrative chose, role playing and exploration/combat. Once you get past those 2 arcs though the game kind of peters out and you can see that the game could have spent another 6-8 months in the oven. Act 3 has some amazing set pieces and storylines that just arent finished. The Iron Throne location and the narrative involving those characters and Karlachs storyline are all half cooked and those two examples are only a few examples of this section of the games half baked nature.

THE ENDING IS THE BIGGEST TRAVESTY OF THE ENTIRE GAME. The endings possible just feel turbo half assed even if you did everything you though necessary for your "good or bad" endings. I spent 130 hours doing everything for every character that seemed to be the best outcome possible and the endings were still ♥♥♥♥ or melancholy. Not saying that "♥♥♥♥" or melancholy endings are bad, but in a game that supposedly values "choice" not having a "good" ending seems super off putting at least from my perspective.

If your ok with 2/3s of the game being awesome roleplaying and storytelling experiences with the latter 1/3rd of the game being ok roleplaying and meh to subpar storytelling then go buck wild, but if not wait for the Meme ediition Larian releases with all its games with some of the unfinished content. Maybe they will add wanted context to the bare endings and finish some of the unworked storylines.

Do not buy this dog water game. They hate their customer base and actively are trying to destroy their own game after 10 years. It is not worth your time and effort. There are much better fighting games at this point that both respect their audience both past and present when looking to the future. I wish I could return this game I bought 10 years ago. AGAIN NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER BUY THIS GAME.

Needs more content and story and enemies and maps and map dynamics. Especially the more story for an "endgame" objective.

UPDATING THIS REVIEW AS THEY HAVE IMPROVED ONE ASPECT OF THE GAME BUT IT IS NO DOGWATER IN OTHER RESPECTS.

This game has only gotten worse with the greed and incompetence of its company, the game is unbalanced and the devs are incredibly lazy and creatively bankrupt as they dont even try to make this game better. Each patch is more broken then the last and filled with a plethora of bugs that even the most mundane of a playtester could find if they actually cared. The balance is atrocious especially at top tier where surprise surprise their home nation of Russia dominates and overperforms. While their trash tier tanks are getting launched into orbit in Ukraine the equivalent vehicles in this game are made of Stalinium and can take everything you can throw at them and more. This not even mentioning the trash balance around close air support. I know tank sims like this are few and far between, but take it from a dude thats played this trash for the past 5 years.... it isnt worth it and you will only hate yourself for wasting your time with this trash company and this trash tier game.

EDIT: THEY HAVE IMPROVED ASPECTS OF THE ECONOMY BUT AS OF 12/23/2023 GAIJIN HAVE BASICALLY ADMITTED TO THE FACT THAT THEY WILL ALWAYS FAVOR USSR AND RUSSIAN VEHICLES OVER NATO ONES EVEN WHEN PRESENTED WITH PRIMARY SOURCES ON THE EFFICACY OF VEHICLES AND WEAPON SYSTEMS Abrams, Leclercs, Challengers, Type 90s along with Nato AA will always be worse than USSR/RUSSIAN equipment because Gaijin just say so. Please dont play this dogwater.

Starting this series near 9 years ago now I would never have imagined this game would have grown to such amazing heights but it has. This game has been one of the best narrative driven video games I have played in my time alive. Barring that the world building, dungeons and raids all fit thematically while being mechanically fun. The Music is World class bless soken and to no SOY out any harder I will just say that this game is one of the few games that has ever made me care about a cast of characters as much as I have. This S h I T deserves all the accolades people throw at it and I cant wait to see what happens in the future.

There is absolutely no arguing that this game is 100% incomplete and is lacking a plethora of the promised features. Still even in the buggy incomplete state it resides the game is still "fun" and the story interesting. This game is carried by the varied cast with excellent animations and voice acting that only adds to the engrossing narrative. Give this game another year in the oven and I would put my money on this game being game of the century if all missing features are added and the narrative is expanded upon with new endings and expanded dynamic narratives depending on your origin story. I would state this game might not be worth it now for everyone and that those people that are hesitant to give it six months to a year to fix and or finish the game adding DLCs for the complete experience. Still Im confident in stating that in its current iteration there is alot of fun to be had.

A fantastic game and a true ode to all that was good and loved about its inspiration being Ace Combat. I saw all the elements fans adored from the Ace Combat series with its own creative spin. The game is arcadey, the aircraft all feel unique, the setting is as memorable as Strangereal with a plethora of narrative pathways narrative designers could take after this and beyond all of that the game is just fun. For those that are Ace Combat fans you will feel right at home with this game and for those that are new to the Arcade Aircraft sim games this is a perfect entry to draw you into these types of Games. I hope we get more of this alternate reality in the future because I dont want Monarchs or Sicarios story to just be done yet as there is so much left in that world that interest me.
