A beautiful game. I have some minor personal issues with some aspects of the story but would still rate it an easy 9/10

Had the game for about 40 odd hours. Finished it 7 times.

The game is fun. It has some good horror elements.

It can be a bit short but future content ia already on the way.

An enjoyable experience.

Early Access Review
Disclosure: I Kickstarted this game. Therefore I suppose I TECHNICALLY got the game for free? I have played several hundred hours before it was released on steam.

The game is great. It is difficult and can murder you and your colony horribly but once you have an idea of the mechanics it can generally be manageable.

The standard setup puts you in control of 3 stranded survivors after a horrible space ship crash.

Fight disease, raiders, random events, raiders, food shortages, raiders, mechanical androids who want your sweet tasty flesh, raiders and raiders. Oh there are also raiders who occasionally show up to smash up your crap, kill your colonists and/or kidnap them.

All in all the game is relatively well balanced if you use the normal AI storyteller (read ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI) but can be more challenging with the more difficult or random storytellers (massive bastard ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ai)

Cons: If you do not like the game constantly challenging you. It also hates you and your colonists. Especially the ones you named after your best friends.

Not sure what to say. The alien Rulers are a fairly tough fight (or series of fights each really). They spice up the formula a little bit by appearing in random missions making them like recurring villians almost. The final one is almost overpowered in some aspects but definitely beatable.

The main concern is that they show up randomly. This means that you can be very unprepared. Your squad could be overextended. You could have just activated some heavy damage pods (andromedons/Sectopods). You might have your rookies out in the field due to wounds/recovery. This means that the Rulers can turn a fairly simple mission into a bedlam of chaos and panic again particularly the 3rd one though the 2nd does have its moments (ground pound :'( ).

The problem here is you would logically then say well dont make them show up randomly, have them as a seperate mission. This though pushes the difficulty too far in the other direction making them too easy as you will always be prepared and ready for their tricks and be fully kitted up to put them 6 feet under.

I would say the best way to 'fix' this issue would be to allow people to choose. Random encounters vs specific hunt missions. That way people will all be able to encounter them without the concerns from either side.

All in all I like the DLC although I can see the concerns others will have with it.

I would say read a bit about it before you purchase

Game is pretty damn good

+ The game is a squad based top down strategy game with character progression.
+ It has a vast tech tree
+ Each character plays differently with a range of talents (abilities) which you can customise to suit.
+ Wide range of interesting weapons with clear distinction
+ Lore and story is quite compelling

- UI is slightly unintuitative at times however this is being worked on. This applies to both in game UI which currently doesnt include some visual indicators which would help (such as health bars) but these are being added or adjusted as well as with squad management which is slightly fiddley having many transitions. This too is being worked upon.

All in all the game is enjoyable. The UI can be annoying but if you enjoy squad based tactical strategy then this game is one I would recommend.

-Camera locking on events and characters being slowed to a stroll when having 'plot' moments.

These are not bad the FIRST time but due to its episodic nature and wanting to unlock everything or get high ratings you will see them time after time after time.

-Some episodes (4-1 for example) are a bit lacklustre.

-No RETRY button in RAID mode. Meaning you have to load back into the 'lobby' and then go through several menus to reload and retry a level. Adds an extra 10-20 pointless seconds to the gameplay.

+More back to the older style of gameplay (Survival Horror rather than Survival Action) which some people prefer. Please note that it is still quite 'actiony'

+Story is quite interesting but personally I would prefer it to be more fleshed out with a full release rather than snippets of game.

+RAID mode while repetitive after playing it for a while give you a short piece of action when you dont want to play a full 15-20 min episode with 10 mins of gameplay after the cutting out of the previously mentioned event camera locks and character dawdles.

Overall a enjoyable game. Some good gameplay and story but a few irritating 'features' which could easily be fixed (but won't)

Always heaps of fun for a zombie shooter.. Gain levels by killing zombies in a certain way which upgrades your class.

Company also constantly adds free content but also supports community by adding community weapon packs which although do cost you dont need to purchase them in order to enjoy the game.
