Let me start of by saying that within the first 3 levels you'll either love it or dismiss it.
If I were to tell u this game is excellent its because it is. If u were to ask me if i'd recommend it then i'd say THIS GAME ISN'T FOR EVERYONE. if your patient and are a fan of thief, stealth inc. and stealthy like games then your in for a treat. your initial ability FIRE is such a versatile tool that messing around with it is such a treat. with the additional abilities in the later portion of the game it becomes a blast experimenting with different routes. and speaking of routes, this is where the game is such a delight. you can approach a level anyway you'd like but are awarded more for being stealthy. Now I'd be lying if i said the game isnt hard. A wrong move can cost you extra achievement points or even death. thats where "patience" is key in this. But if u can overcome failing multiple times, then the satisfaction of a perfect mission complete is exhilarating! The Music is such a harmonious and upbeat soundtrack that it just nails it. Though the cheesy screems from the characters are cute but not intrusive to the overall game. this is 1 little gem that must not be overlooked for those who can appreciate pixel art and stealth games.
Now this isnt a perfect game. FAR from it. there are flaws and nitpicks here and there. like there's no notifications of any sort other than what the main and secondary objectives are in the beginning of the level. or when in the over world map doesn't tell you the secondary objective until u go into the level. Its annoying because there's alot of levels...
But is it worth the difficulty and short comings? YOU BET YOUR SCALLY WAG TALE IT IS

I'm on the fence with whether u should pick this up. so here's the take.. If u played and enjoyed Tohou luna nights then hands down get it. If ur looking for a full metroidvannia experience then wishlist it and wait till the full release. after 2 bosses i was hit with the "path is yet not finished" cutscene. I should've seen it coming tho with the file size being only 52mbs XD... so there ya have it.. is it a promising metroidvannia, you bet! are you willing to invest early on, probably... will you get more than 3hrs worth. not a chance... I love this genre so even tho ive bought it, ill wait till full release when i play it again... but yea the animation, SOtN feel. they're all there

This in short is a shovel knight super metroid game... thru and thru... catchy 8bit music down to the boss fights and item and ability progression... if any of the above gets u remotely interested, no hesitation needed. Deffinate pick up

its a short but very rememberable ride... a good 5-8 hrs of dying and dying alot is nothing less than gratifying once you've completed a sector. then the ENDING.... why did u make me want MORE lol

VERDICT: must own for any HOTLINE miami fan and pixel art gamer!... definately worth the time coz the story is just so mind bending its BAD ASS!

I need to get this off my chest. I had doubts going into this coz i was worried it was gonna look like Songbringer and that trash is borderline atari graphics... that being said the pixel art is indeed NES style but non intrusive and flashy at all the right moments. The enviroment doesnt seem as dull and messy like the forementioned either... now does this game have flaws? umm Ya huh! especially when it comes to the controls and controller(s). The looking speed is so fast and loose its hard to make your shots hit and make it frustrating playing it on the couch with a big screen... Although the Keyboard & Mouse is the best choice, it could use a little more improvement and work is so desperately needed on the controller input. (maybe a button for looking ahead) The right stick should not move the camera unless wanted. IF your a dedicated K&M person, this game should be in your library. Its exactly like the trailer shows. combat is tough but can and will be FUN over time. The Rogue like nature of the game the same as any other but a bit more forgiving so thats a nice treat for newer/not good players..

Bottomline, This is a game that will keep u saying "Just 1 more run i swear!" XD
Simply put.... ITS ADDICTIVE!!!

Ive tried to word this right so many times.. The metroidvania u expected doesn't deliver after the first area. what you get here is a polished clean side scroller, metal slug wannabee with a light dash of exploration. Be warned. Your not buying a metal Slug action packed game nor a deep metroidvania with a slur of gunplay. nope... what you get is a medeocre side scroller acion game that is well suited for the the Genesis era and a whole lot of repetition. Man does this game get dull after the 2nd area. and it wont keep u wanting more! give it a try on a good sale price.. I will admit it had me on the hook at the beginning but thats just it! only the know how of the game is fun. after that its just a bunch running around with mild shooting. if nothing else to play and bored, try it. But as much as i truely wanted to like it, i cant say its a good retro. unfortunate

The first 2 hours i spent in the game, honestly felt like a generic progressively better weapon rogue game but tough, obviously... BUT then I unlocked other Suits in the game and OMG SH***T got real... (real GOOD)

First and foremost the Matrix looking atmosphere is FANTASTIC. Its YOUR job to salvage left over scrap ships across the galaxy in order to make ends meet. There's 2 game modes to start with, Campain and Rogue. In campain, you're given 4 ship contracts each mission to choose from. These ships are armed with "still" operating defenses and security protecting the Master Core. After choosing a contract you're given a layout of the ship AND you decide which route to take. Depending on your Battle Suit you play accordingly to your class and how you tackle the ships interior... here's where you go into "financial management" mode. you can manage how much to spend on ammunition, armor/health and firepower to bring along in order to destroy the mother brain AND optional requirements for a bonus payout on the contract All within your buget or its GAME OVER if you go BROKE. compromisation and risk is required for some missions but soo worth it once u see it through to completion. Then there's traditional Rogue MODE. Which you start with an unlocked class and go thru the pain throbbing gaunlet of Survival mode. Swapping weapons and items scattered around in which is really nicely put together but sometimes its like OMFG! F****K YOU lol

The ONLY thing negative about Cryptark is that it's too short. Aside from those 2 modes there's really not much content. Even co-op is limited to local play which sucks!

But is it worth it?... YES... Pick up the game when given the chance. Controls are super TIGHT (for Twin shooter like gameplay) and customizable for Controller and Keyboard and Mouse. (Kb&M feels just as good as a controller but its all about preference so your pick)

...Don't take the Blue pill, Take the Cryptark pill for a world of hurt and satisfaction!

Soo glad i got this on sale months ago for 2 bucks!! no sour face here... if you like this sorta game then cool beans, NOW its free. 4 years late but better than regular price. If your new to the community, good luck in keeping enthuse for long

This game really puts a testiment on how glorious the old school dayz were. Real subtle but catchy and memorible 8bit tunes make this game stand out the most. The controls are tight and precise but it can get a little annoying at how slow the player moves. This game is more of an Action Puzzle Adventure than a Metroidvania. So If you like puzzles you're in for a treat. A bit on the short and simple side but it's an enjoyable ride. RETRO RECOMMENDED

I'll be perfectly honest. I only bought this to support the developer.

Its the MSX version of ghost 1.0 but without the roguelike gameplay. deffinately not flashy and quality, well... Unless you like that era of gaming you'll be dissapointed. Not to say the game is awful, but it's deffinately worth the 2 bucks. I recommend for a good hour or two messing around.

I like the developers spirit... Keep it up dude
