I have never been this much c*** blocked in my life.

Goes like this:
- Me and other 2 friends install the game, play a few matches, in all of them we die. Ok fair, its a hardcore game.
- Eventually we get the hang of the game and survive a whole 10 minutes inside the dungeon, we are full of loot and find an extraction point, every one enters, only one leave. The other 2 are left looking at each other.
- Timer runs out, the other 2 dies.
- All of us are left with a bad taste in our mouth after the experience, even me, the one that extracted.
- We look up what happened on google, seems like not all exits work for the whole party.
- Everyone quits and uninstall

I sincerely wanted to ask the person who came up with this party extraction idea, wtf he has in his head, he thought this was good game design?

This is not the game being hardcore its the game making players life miserable just for the sake of it.

Well, poor man's Tarkov is poor man's Tarkov, and bad game design comes along with it I guess.

BDO a game about Stockholm effect.

After about 3k+ hours (it used to have another launcher for Black Desert SA, so it does not show my correct game time) I just don't wanna play this game anymore, every day that I log in I feel like a fool, out of the 3k hours i'd say I only played about 1k hours the other 2k are just afk fishing, afk alchemy, and afk cooking.

TL DR: So what is this game actually about? AFK activities, RNG, micro-transactions, gambling, gambling, gambling. Oh! And more gambling. There is nothing here beyond that.

Sure the combat is the best in any action MMORPG but is it really worth your time? Every aspect of the game is plagued with low chance RNGs and gambling. After a certain point in the game (just after you graduate from season) your progress as a new player halts almost to a stop, then you have realistically 2 choices:

RNG enhancement:
For RNG enhancement, lets just say that during season they make it feel like its easy, but let me show you the real deal: The base chance for a successful upgrade from a Blackstar TET to PEN is 0,2%, sure black star PEN is the best weapon in the game, are you mortal human, some day gonna have one? No. But how much does it cost anyway? About 150 billion silver, which I can't even put it in terms of grind hours cause I've never even got past 30 billion silver without tearing my hair out and shoving a ♥♥♥♥ up my ass, its one of those things that it is better to not even know.

Okay so lets bring this to post season characters, Base chance for a boss armor TET to PEN: 0.3%. Oh yeah but I forgot to mention the difference between clicking a BS PEN and a Boss Armor PEN, do you know what happens when you fail an enhance? downgrade, what prevents a downgrade? Cron stones, how much does it cost for 1 cron stone, 2 million silver (3m depending on your region, yeah they ♥♥♥♥ your ass differently depending from where you are playing the game), how many cron do you need for ONE safe click? Blackstar TET to PEN: 3.6k cron stones. Boss Armour TET to PEN: about 1k - 2k cron, do the math and see how much it costs just for one attempt at enhancing.
But here is the catch, my account is 8 years old so I have at least 3 to 30 of every type of Valks Advice possible (its an item that enhances your chance for a successful upgrade) If I have the Cron, I can click what ever the ♥♥♥♥ I want, but you dear newbie, you are ♥♥♥♥♥♥, you get a handful and that's it, login again tomorrow or for 3 days strait to get another one, or go spend your money building up fails stacks.

But hey!!! Here is a random event box full of goodies that has 99.5% chance of giving you 10 - 20 Cron stones that you can't even sell back to the NPC for extra money.

Grind:
For buying a gear upgrade you are looking at least 10 hours+ of grinding, when you finish season, for your next upgrade, you need about 5 billion silver which is one boss armor at PEN, then do that another 5 times and congrats!!! You have just entered early-mid game and can now actually play the game (don't try PVP though, you won't understand ♥♥♥♥ about what you are doing and the opponent will just teleport around your screen and 1 hit kill you, maybe try Solare Arena if you don't mind getting flaked for being newbie). In the Gear Score Bracket I am I'd say its about 100+ hours of grinding for one measly upgrade, something like +2 of AP (assuming I grind sweaty with high APM).

What about the Jettina dailies for a PEN accessory?
Yeah good luck to you on logging in every day for 2 months strait and killing 3k mobs every day, I did it, was not fun, it TOOK ME A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ YEAR TO FINISH IT.

BUT WAIT, THERE IS MORE!! You want a PEN boss armor? Well, for your first weapon and armor we have a really good promotion its just half the price plus 2 - 3 weeks of dailies!!!! oh what? you want another? its double the original price of the item in the market plus 2 - 3 weeks of dailies, what a great system we made that helps newbies!!!!!

Magnus questline? Ok you can have a PEN boss gear for free! do you know what you need to do? Just do this quest-line that takes up a hole day to finish and the only thing you do is trash and buggy minigames, YAY!!! (Pick the PEN Urugon Boots, you will thank me later)

"Oh but you don't need to touch RNG in this game, you can buy everything" incorrect, for gear that maybe the case, but for everything else you are forced in to the game's RNG. Every event nowadays is just some RNG box with the slimiest possibility to get something actually good.

Let me illustrate: There was an event where you put your worker to gather some goodies sacks and after 6 - 8 hours (depending on your worker) you had a chance to get 1 of the 3 types of sacks (2 of them complete ♥♥♥♥, 1 good), I left my worker the entire event (about 2 weeks of event), let me tell you how many I got: About 40+ sacks of ♥♥♥♥ and 6 sacks with the POSSIBILITY of good items. After the event ended I opened them all, wanna know what I got? ♥♥♥♥♥ and turds.

Oh did I mention your worker only works when you are online? so do the math 46 bags multiplied by 6 hours for each bag = 276 hours, 276 hours divided by 24 = 11.5 days online out of 14 days, yeah I could have mined bitcoin and injected the money in the game and I would have had more ROI.

Next event: stay online for about 2 hours a day and open 2 - 3 box of possible goodies, I have opened about 12 boxes, wanna know what I got? ANOTHER RNG BOX! And again more ♥♥♥♥♥ and turds, what will I get till the end of the event? Probably more ♥♥♥♥♥ and turds and maybe, but just maybe ANOTHER RNG BOX!!!!
And that just goes on for every "event", until you actually manage to drop something good and go "wow! this event is really good, PA is such a good developer, giving cash items for free, I love them!!".

So what am I trying to say? That I have Bad RNG? No its not that, its that just the game likes to make a fool out of you, they are going to put RNG box inside of another RNG box in everything and shove it down your throat, and you know what the problem is with gambling? The house almost always wins....

Here in BDO they use every possible tactic in psychology books, to get you hooked, to give you the illusion of progression, to make you spend money, but when you stop for a second and think on what they are doing and how you are responding to it, you are either gonna feel like a fool, or a guinea pig.

And you know what part is worst? Its that the community loves being made a fool of by the devs, they are going to defend PA with teeth, tooth and nails, its like some kind of Stockholm effect. They are going to say "no man this game was a lot worse, PA devs have listened and made things better for players" yeah... they actually haven't, sure they made some things less atrocious, but then again its that same tactic where you create a problem and give the solution, thing is the solution is 99% in favor of the devs and 1% in your favor, but the way they do it and communicate it, it always feels like they are doing this for you, for your better game experience, to help you out. But its not, its just to inflate steam-charts with active users and make you spend more money.

"Oh boy they gave me a J's hammer now I have 1 FREE try to get that Black Star TET to PEN with 5% chance!!!!!!"

"Hey! here is a free legendary T9 horse!!! Good for you, we are such good devs, now go and click it to T10, here is a ♥♥♥♥ ton materials for you to try to click it! Oh it din't go T10? To bad, stay online every day and I'll give you more materials or go and grind your ass out"

Yeah sure, I would much rather PA slapped me in the face and called me a ♥♥♥♥♥.

Will I continue playing this ♥♥♥♥? Probably, I invested to much to simply ♥♥♥♥ off, i'm a ♥♥♥♥♥, but you my friend, you don't have to be, stay away from this "game"....

If I could go back in time I'd refund this game, major waste of time.

Here is why I went to being one those super hyped players that loved the game at launch but now hates the game and would like my money back.

This is my review from a mostly a PVE solo player stand point.

Lvling experience solo or with friends:

1 - 30: your are going to have the time of your life, really fun to play you can mix weapons, stats, armor types, anything, you can literally play the way you want and its quite fun to discover the combos, the world, the quests are not that boring cause it still haven't gotten to you yet.

30 - 50: its a bit of a grind but if you like grind you are still going to have fun, freedom of choice regarding the way you want to play gets a bit more limited, you have to play efficiently regarding stats, equips and weapons.

50 - 60: major grind but you can skip it if you saved money throughout lvls 1 - 50 by doing town board quest (buy items in the market and deliver at the board rinse and repeat). If you wanna continue grinding quests to save money then read the next section and get disappointed cause it also applies in this lvl bracket.

End Game

Solo play
60 onward: You gotta go meta heavy armor, Great axe and a hammer (the second weapon is your only freedom in this bracket) why? you may ask. well its just not viable time wise and money wise and here is why:

Lets say you want to play a mage with light armor or a ranger with light or even medium, lets say you like dark souls rolling, you have 2 rolls in light armor, or 2 side steps in medium armor. Now even if you pump some constitution to have more life you will be dead in 4 hits (gear score independent) from almost any lvl 60+ mob, even trash mob.
Now imagine this, most places will have about 2 - 3 mobs close together, agro 1 you pull the other 2, theoretically in light armor it is kitable, in practice there will be a lot of times where there is just not enough space to do that, like inside towers or some places that have a lot of things around to stop you from moving like roots, fences, trees and what not, so you just die and come back right?
Not that simple, a single death can cost you around 30 to 50 coins, considering mobs rarely give you up to 8 coins and quests can give up to 200 coins, dying 3 - 4 times makes you have a waste money wise and time wise because of the travel time (at 60 the only reason you are doing quests is for coins) and you will die a lot in light/medium armor and lose a ♥♥♥♥ ton of time kiting things, so finishing just a single quest can take up to 30 minutes and you will have lost money in the end. So if you wanna go full DPS or even hybrid be prepared to have a really bad experience with the game

Now lets see what I call the Tank meta which is heavy armor plus great axe/sword and shield or great axe/hammer or great axe/hatchet having at least 200 constitution stat (at lvl 60 you will have 190 base attribute points to spend):

Pull half the mobs in the camp use defensive CDs and AOEs go to the next camp, you can tank I'd wager about 20 to 30 hits (depending on your gear score) before dying and that is if you don't use any defensive CDs like 30% dmg reduction + 10% max life heal from sword/shield or chain stunning from the hammer or 10% max life regen/ 3s immortality from hatchet.
Total deaths: maybe 1 or 2 if you really are trying hard to die.
Total time spent: less the 10 min per quest.

Now you may be thinking I could use these defensive CDs with light or medium armor right? yeah if you wanna die slowly and more painfully, sure why not? The flat dmg reduction just from the Heavy armor is what carries you through the solo PVE experience, heck you can even use white gear with no stats bonus in this regard and you will probably be fine.

Taking into to account that gold income dramatically drops at 60, if you don't go heavy armor meta you will have a hard time balancing repair costs and spending gold to buy things that are going to make you progress.
So all in all in the solo end game experience you are forced to go heavy if you wanna have a healthy playthrough, and believe me when I say that I have tried to go off that meta, things where not fun at all, they where rage quitting experiences.

Not a solo player:
Have 3 friends, one of them tanks the other 2 can just screw around and you are good, maybe one can also heal(?) so that you can just jolt through the repeatable quests and some elite areas to farm gold and trash equipment. Some other elite areas like Myrkgard you gotta bring a hole 5 man group with coordinated play just to be able to defeat the mobs and get, again, ♥♥♥♥♥♥ loot.

All of the above is just taking into account normal content, if you wanna do the open world content its a hole other story like portals, some of the elite areas and, idk is there anything else besides these 2 things?

Oh dungeons, yeah dungeons are fun the first few times and quite easy to complete, the loot is just trash because of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ watermark system, even the lvl 60 ones where you face the literal final boss of the game (yeah lore wise you could call Isabella and some other bosses like that, but its just meh, nobody cares about the lore in this game because they do not know how to tell you a proper story or even a story at all, nobody in their sane mind is gonna read a ♥♥♥♥ ton of lose flyers scattered around the world that tell a story in bits, just to understand why am I hitting that ♥♥♥♥♥ over and over again)

The things I described above are the things that made me rage quit the game several times (literally alt+f4 ♥♥♥♥ this ♥♥♥♥ moment) but there are many other design flaws with the game that i'm not gonna go into detail like how crafting equips is useless until lvl 200 legendary crafting, although other crafting professions have its usefulness some times.

In PVP you can have some fun until you go broke with repairs or get bored of running around chasing people and that's all I have to say about it cause I'm tired of writing this ♥♥♥♥, go find another review if PVP is your thing, I'm sure you will find very in depth reviews on the matter.

TL:DR > Very major balancing issues that does not look like that will ever be fixed, lack of content, poor to none storytelling (if you are into that like me) and the game is not even close to being a solo friendly game.

I do not even know where to begin on this one, this was supposed to be a pirate themed ark, now its more like a turd themed ark. The devs have no idea where they wanna take the game each update brings more and more things that no one asked and no one wants, there were some good updates, but somehow with just a few they completely destroyed the game. I think its easier to say where this game really let me down.

when I bought this I fell in love with it, the game was a buggy mess but its mechanics where fun its concept was good. I loved building ships, customizing the interior, making rooms, captains quarters, crew quarters, trade goods storage all inside my ship, but then something happened, you no longer had the freedom to customize your ship interior, ships started requiring gold to be BUILT by your hands, with all the mats you had gathered (so who am I paying this gold to? if I had to build the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ port as well?). That in itself killed game for me but then they started adding a lot of crazy magical and technological ♥♥♥♥ that does not match the theme of the game properly, it all just feels horribly off, on top of that they started to focus the game entirely on pvp.

What does that focus on pvp means? well it means that all those screenshots with towns and people and ship battles does not really exist in game by itself, its like those toy commercials where the toy flies, talks to you and what not, but in reality its just a piece of plastic that at max says some pre recorded lines. Yeah sure you can shoot some strange looking npc "ships" that are just hanging there for no other reason then to ♥♥♥♥ you up when you let your ship sailing and go afk, but it gets really dull after the third time shooting them since you cannot even board it. The towns are non existent in game what you can find is a port with really few houses and even fewer things to do there, the towns depicted in the screenshots are player made and in a public server you will never go there unless you are part of the clan.

Now you atlas player must be saying: "what are you saying? In single player mode there are npcs villages to raid and you can customize some requirements for building ships." My answer is: "villages are composed of 2 or 3 small houses with a ♥♥♥♥ ton of bugged out npcs that has almost perfect accuracy and trash loot. And yeah sure maybe you can remove gold costs but can you customize your ship interior like when the game first appeared?"

The good thing I can say about it is somehow the devs have not given up on this ♥♥♥♥ fest, and they are really working hard to transform this into a game, which is estrange because after each update this looks less like a game and more like a nightmare

TL:DR - The game does not have a clear vision of what it wants to be, each update makes the game as a hole even more strange and off than before, the screenshots on steam page are kinda fake advertising, no real content aside from pvp on a public server, and bugs lots and lots of bugs (some even game breaking). Devs are dumb but are hard workers and are trying to transform this into a game, but failing miserably at it.
