Imagine dead space but without any tension, easy gameplay loop and... no actually that's all I've got and that's all there is. Thank gods I got it in HB. Imagine paying full price for this one...

Early Access Review
As an early access its pretty good. Decent pool of abilities and builds, cool art, reasonable voice acting (most of the time anyway).

Don't expect too much content just yet but it looks promising for now. Especially at the asking price and given the amount of work being done on it.

How many "promising" games ended up being crap? Well that's a different matter altogether...

Started off utterly ♥♥♥♥, "redeemed itself" to be mediocre in every possible way.

One of the most "eh" exploration games (where you explore the same thing again and again) out there. One of the most "eh" builders, combat might as well not exist and all you do is grind for incremental upgrades.

Mediocre.

My intro to the Tales series. I'm not going to lie. This is really quite... underwhelming.

I get that to play it properly you have to NOT play as the MC of the game (lol)
I get that to actually learn the combat system you shouldn't just button mash with the MC (lol)
I get that the JRPG stories are basically low grade anime stories.

I get all that - I just don't get why any of it is the case.

As it stands its a strong 4.5/10

Good fun and actually rather novel take on the whole dungeon crawler genre.

10/10 would recommend.

And they don't support fashies from RF so that's a plus too.

Time has passed, the worst of the bugs and the worst of the jank has been fixed away. Hell I even managed to force myself through a legendary campaign.

All in all not the best TW offering but it will probably be serviceable enough once the full version (ahem) of the game is finally released

Early Access Review
Gets boring very very quickly.

The gameplay loop is very simplistic as it stands right now.

Given the snail pace of new feature addition I don't expect it to get better any time soon.

Post 1.0:

I should have refunded when I had the chance. Repetitive gameplay loop that punishes exploration of the alchemy map and is generally quite counter intuitive.

I mean I guess you could just skip ALL of the exploration by going to the wiki and looking at the map but after that what's actually left to this game?

It feels like doom2016 got a mobile port.

Edit:

Significantly longer review now.

I've tried quite hard to get through this game. I daresay I even got quite good at it in the end. Nothing amazing mind.

But I really can't even bring myself to finish it. I will keep trying and I will probably do it in the end but It has certainly fallen hugely down my list of priority games to complete.

In a way this one really LOOKS like Doom2016 but at the same time plays like a complete antithesis to the predecessor.

So lets start out with the positives:

Great HDR support
Incredible level of optimisation just like D2016.
Er... I'm all out

And straight to negs:

The story - what the actual ♥♥♥♥ is happening there? No connection to Doom16's ending just random start in the middle of a random space ship? Khan Maykr? Hell Priests? Bruh...

Platforming and jumping puzzles in my 2020 shooter? Why? And why so many of them? They aren't actually fun y'know?

Ammo management - that's a big one boys. So much pointless stupid ammo management. That's all you're going to do is "manage ammo".

In fact the whole combat sequence feels very rigid. Want to kill stuff how you want to kill stuff? Hah good luck with that bruv. Better do EXACTLY what devs designed. Better press buttons in exact sequence and better kill every enemy type in the exact same way OR ELSE.

But they've added skins and collectables for your stupid pointless ship.

All in all I stand by my original conclusion - Eternal to Doom16 is what a Mobile Remake is to a full blown PC Game.
