Worked the first time. Was great, really enjoyed it and just what I was looking for. Went to start it a few days later and it simply fails to launch. I guess combining Steam with EA garbage messes things up...who'd have thought. Such a shame. I will be getting a refund and looking to purchase or "acquire" a copy elsewhere.

I'm too fat to fit in a real kayak but this let me paddle thousands of kilometres. It does make both myself and my laptop hot though.

When I first bought this game it was "playable". A little rough around the edges but fun. Since then it's had updates, and now it's a mess of a game. Whilst a few of the control updates have been nice there are too many problems like not being able to easily move the camera. It starts off at strange angles, and some of the visuals like hair seem to have been made worse IMO.

Also, I can't spank the teacher anymore?

Full of cheaters. Here is how the game will go, you will join, you will run about 20-50m then you get shot by someone you never saw. Repeat until bored. Glad I only paid sale price but even that is too much for this. Avoid and look elsewhere for decent multiplayer.

Buggy, janky, with a bit of fun thrown in. Other games do it better. Sometimes you'll shoot at someone a mile away and get a kill, other times you'll shoot at them point blank and nothing. Then some guy stabs you like they are Highlander whilst you press stab and wait about 5 seconds for your character to produce the movement.

Fun at first but the faults and jankiness are just enough to keep me from playing sometimes.

More frustration due to bugs and bad game design. With every update comes new issues. Enemies spawn from around every corner so the idea of having a map bigger than a single room becomes pointless. Bosses keep getting made harder whilst player abilities get made weaker because the minority of the community ask for it. Even though that minority tend to have private profiles and only play solo. The whole game is just broken IMO. Loading times are very long, every time a player joins the game will freeze for a couple of seconds. They never fix these issues so I can't recommend buying it.

Single player is great, but it you want access to all the extras you need to play online. That's where the nightmare begins. People shooting you from 10 miles away, kids using "orbital" weapons and other crazy pay for upgrades means you won't stand a chance of having a decent game without encountering the type of players that enjoy annoying others. There is no way to deal with this so I can't recommend playing this for anything other than single player.

Solid single player but let down by the fact that there are so many cheating kids on multiplayer. If I'd known how bad the problem was I would never have purchased even as a sale item. It's simply not worth it. Let the badly raised kids play with each other and move on to another game.

I first heard of the Flatout series after picking up a copy of Flatout 2 and was blown away. As a game franchise I'd never heard of before I was surprised by how good it was.

Compaing this orginal Flatout to the second one seems a bit unfair but to be honest this feels like an unfinished game. Some jerky physics and control issues with some menu problems make this game a bit disappointing.

You can be winning a race comfortably only to hit a traffic cone and be spun out...but not just spun out, spun out into a forest, hitting a tree and having your driver fly out of the car. That might sound fun, but sometimes if you just touch a tire wall you'll spin wildly out of control or get "hooked up" against it and have to reset your position. I feel this detracts from the gameplay.

There also appears to be "shortcuts" on some courses. The problem with this is that the shortcuts often end up so insanely difficult to get through that they cost you far more time than you save. When is a shortcut not a shortcut? In Flatout.

There is no way to sell cars you buy that I can see, or to even change to the cars you've spent money on previously.

There is also no graphics menu so make sure you choose the settings you want when you first start the game. The only way around this is to delete the setup file in the game folder which is pretty annoying.

Apart from those minor flaws the game is good fun, with a decent soundtrack but it's just too frustrating and random to be worth playing.
