Worth buying for the first game (999) alone. Fun puzzles, great cast of characters and a story that keeps you wanting to play more to uncover the mysteries. The game is also just the perfect length and does not overstay its welcome.

The second game (VLR) is also good. Again, good puzzles, characters and story, but this time there are a LOT of branching paths, and you will have to visit most of them to reach the true ending. Each branch does have its own puzzles and endings, but after a while it does get a bit jarring noticing similarities between the branches, and being forced to watch endless slow door animations. Still, the story is good enough to see it through.

Improves on all aspects of the original game. The missions all feel very different from each other. One mission you'll be gathering clues to find an assassin, and another you'll be gathering resources to build defenses in a castle under attack. Every mission feels like a unique adventure.

A lot of new cards and equipment. Companions that help you in battles and encounters each with their own storyline. New gambling mechanics that feel satisfying to master.

Combat is still the game's weak point but it's good enough. Enemies are a bit tanky and avoiding damage becomes easy in a few hours.
