Early Access Review
This game was quite fun, but the last update was december of 2021! That's nearing 3 years ago, which means the game is abandoned. It's still in early access, but there hasn't been an update in over two years, indicating abandonment for sure. Hence I cannot recommend anyone buy it.

Early Access Review
7 years and still in alpha early access?! Nah, that's not cool. I liked the game, it was fun and I want to recommend it, but this game is not really early access. It's been 7 years, it's stable, so it needs to be forced out of early access if the devs won't do it. That they still update the game is a major positive for them and they deserve credit for it, but for crying out loud, games aren't supposed to take this long to develop and it's virtually unheard of. If this had been in release v1.0, I'd give this a recommend in a heartbeat. Too bad it's not. We need to stop supporting this kind of early access nonsense. Early access can be good, but this is not the way.

I played for a pretty good chunk of time, but got tired of the mediocre and clunky gameplay. Then I found a crappy political reference and a few hours later, I just gave up on the game. If a game is blatant, honest and put's it all out in front, I have no problem with politics in a game, but when it's completely out of place and makes no narrative sense (especially if it's piss poor and unfunny), I just have no tolerance. Had the gameplay been less clunky and more enjoyable, I wouldn't have stopped playing it, but the world isn't perfect.

Of course when I read some of the more recent reviews and found out they pulled the game from other operating systems without offering a refund (or the old version that worked on those operating systems ), I decided they deserved a negative review.

Do you like hack-n-slash games? We got you.
Do you like zombies? We got you.
Do you like local 4 player co-op? We got you.
Do you like super cheap? Oh boy, do we got you!

I was looking for a game to play with my buds when they decided we needed to come to my house after the bowling alley. While browsing for local multiplayer games I ran across this one and the screenshots and videos looked alright, so I figured for 99 cents, why the hell not give it a try? I was not disappointed! This game is actually really fun old school side scrolling hack-n-slash with a deceptively high level of customiszability and depth. Did I mention it's only 99 cents?!

The mechanics are simple, the enemy ai is simple, the graphics are simple and that's what makes it all work. For this price point, I recommend this for anyone looking to have a good time with friends. Just plug in some ps4 controllers (that's what I have so that's what we used. Can't comment on other controllers), select co-op gamemode, pick your characters, weapons and jump right in!

The game is fine, but if you run across one of the MANY gamebreaking bugs, nobody can help you. I got up to a boss called Karkinos (or something like that) and the mechanic to start the fight refuses to work, so I posted on discussions about it. No responses from anyone in 7 months. I also searched for outside help, but there is apparently no fix for this bug. 29.99? That's an astronomical price for this, when you factor in that you're rolling the dice if you can even finish the game.

I think I should start off saying I don't much like the Metroidvania genre, but this game actually got me hooked from start to finish and even got a second full clear. I only got my second playthrough to 98% but, that last 2% comes from fully upgrading all the perks and I don't really feel the need to do that twice. The thing I most dislike about this genre is the frustration element, but this game handles it in my favorite way: Brute force. If you're having trouble, all you gotta do is keep playing and upgrading your stats. That is the same thing I love about RPG's. I think the perks are really what sets this game apart from others like Wizard of Legend for example. Instead of the perks being the abilities, they alter your abilities and you can use up to 3, unless you go full resist. I won't spoil that, but I will get to the resit/embrace mechanic later.

An example I used quite a lot (using max ranked perks) is using the perk which takes 70% of your health and turns it into shield and reduces your HP to 1, then also using the shield flasks perk, which changes your healing flasks into, you guessed it, shield restoring flasks, but also gives you 4 extra flasks. If you pair that with the armor perk, you take little damage and whenever you avoid damage for 3 seconds, your shields restore automatically.

In addition to this (as if that weren't enough customization for you!), you can either embrace, or resist. When you embrace, you change the way your abilities work. Sometimes the change is minor like with the cannon, but other times it's major like allowing you to teleport in any direction, instead of just a shooting out in a straight line from left to right. My favorite ability to embrace would be the Strength ability, because of the wicked cool scream/howl sound effect when you charge it up! Resisting is a little different though, because while the ability remains the same, you unlock bonuses for your default abilities, like doing damage when you roll through enemies being added to the default dodge ability (super useful), or adding extra damage to the final hit of your default combo attack. If I had any criticism of the embrace/resist aspect, it would be towards embrace at the end of the game. The last 3 abilities you embrace are highly redundant if you've embraced your straight line dash and one of them is entirely meaningless (looking at you grappling hook ability).

There are even three different endings depending on how much you resist or embrace! I do so love alternate endings. The game is light on story however. What little story you get is delivered by the only other sentient being in the game, which you never see in the trailers. You find these rooms with giant crystals and a black and purple swirling orb hovering in the air. When you hit them, you get a little bit of a short tale.

Where this game shines though, is the combat. While it can get really hectic during a horde (wave of enemies) and especially so in an endless horde area, you can run away from them if it gets overwhelming. It's very satisfying to knock an enemy into the air, jump up to it and swing at it to quickly get onto a platform by getting extra jumps each time you hit an enemy. I'd go so far as to say that the mobility of your character is the most entertaining aspect of combat in this game.

End verdict: I'd say this game is worth getting at $19.99 and even better at a discount. I've yet to try the split screen co-op mode, but that is also a really awesome thing this game has that is so rare these days. I really don't see why we can't have local co-op anymore, so if you're looking for that in a fun hack and slash platformer, this is a very good choice in my opinion.

Holy crap, this game is great! The atmosphere is fantastic, the sound is ominous and the visuals are excellent. If you're a fan of Horror games that aren't about jump scares and monster combat, but purely about creeping you out, disturbing you and sending shivers up AND down your spine, this game is for you! If you want to kill things though, look elsewhere, as there is no combat to speak of.

Totally happy I got this game from Humble Bundle.

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this game, but not for the usual reasons. Keep reading and I'll explain.

First I need to address the elephant in the room: My play time is very low.

There's a very good reason for that. There is a severe echo on all sound in the game and nowhere in the discussion forums on steam, in my search on google AND my search on Yahoo! Yeah, I even tried Yahoo search. This problem also exists with Sniper Elite 4, but you can fix that in the games sound options, something this game entirely lacks (not sound options, it has bare bones sound options consisting of Music, Speach and SFX volume sliders).

If you can handle the entire game (sans cinematics) sounding like you're in a grand cathedral, a cave, a tunnel, or some other acoustic chamber type location, then the game is just as good as Sniper Elite 4 and better than Sniper Elite (the first one). Those are the only two Sniper Elite games I've played. Seriously, this game is otherwise good, but entirely ruined for me by this idiotic sound issue! If someone has a solution and it works, I'll edit this review to reflect that. I won't retract my not recommened rating however, because this should have been fixed by the damn developers years ago!

Early Access Review
Honestly, the developers are taking so long to develop this game, that I really don't feel comfortable recommending supporting the game. Maybe in mid to late 2018 when they've made some actual progress. I also don't appreciate having to create an account on a separate forum and I was left unable to investigate why they decided to change the stupid controls and functionality of the terrain deform tool! That was so frustrating, I uninstalled the game and set the category to "DONE"

That's what I do with games I'm never playing again.

I'd strongly suggest downloading the demo to see if you like the game. It's a pretty standard top down shooter, but ammo for specific weapons can become scarce. This forces you to use more than just one or even two different weapons, which could be either good or bad.

If you can get it on sale, it's well worth the dollar or two.
