Super fun in Multiplayer. More so when you figure out how to make a Piston Engine and then learn that you can actually make a car powered by nothing but piston movement and sensors. Makes you feel like an actual Mechanic/Engineer. (Well, a Digital Mechanic I guess. :P)

The Good, Bad and the Nasty.

Overview

From what we saw from the trailer, it's basically Harvest Moon meets Minecraft. Something everyone wanted, right? Well, so did I. I bought it from Humble Bundle once it was on sale there, which is also why I have the game on Steam aswell, due to getting the code from Humble Bundle after it released on Steam. Now, what do I think of it?

The Good

It's a fun game for a few hours, you get to do farming, building, you can even build your own house the way you want, unlike other games, but that's literally the same thing you can do with Minecraft and a few mods, so it isn't anything new.

  • You can build your own home in Voxels.
  • Pet System (Although it's heavily lacking.)
  • Befriending System (Also heavily lacking, even more so than the Pet System.)
  • Voxel Based game (Which is simpler to render for older PCs.)

The bad

Here comes the point where things get spicy with how this game can be bad for you. If you want this game but these points, add up to your "Hate list", then be prepared to hate/dislike the game.

  • No marrying system. Really?
  • Very lacking Pet System. (Your pet just exists, Maybe a few items from time to time.)
  • UI Control is atrocious. (This incluides control over your Inventory. It's bad 'k?)
  • Very little information on the items, requiring you to constantly have a Wiki open.
  • Very limited Character Customization. (Unless you buy stuff ingame.)
  • Netcode is the worst I've seen so far.

The Nasty

This is the point where I talk about what is just, bad. And instead of having a list, I'll be outlining it on actual text instead of an ordered list.

- Updates take way too long; Since when did we get an actual content update from 2018 when it came out on Humble Bundle? 2019. How long did it take for them to release an patch update? 5-6 Months.

I'm sorry but, this is a team we are talking about, a team that works on a game that they should upkeep when there's bugs found out, and it takes them multiple months to even fix a few bugs? I would understand if they withhold updates to add content (Although that's a bad move too), but there's literally nothing added. Heck, the inventory glitch where items suddenly dissapear, was in 2018, and is still a thing in 2020, even though many posted it on the bug reports. Take it with a grain of salt, to what I'm about to say, but for me it sounds more so that the devs are too lazy, don't care or rather waste away their time do whatever they want instead of fixing their game. Can I blame them? Not really, it's their game, but then I also want my money back if that's the route they are willing to go.

End Result

It's a good game, but it also lacks proper management, it lacks many things that it should already have, and for those who say it takes so long because of game development being hard; I agree. But if you go google some few games that are Voxel Based you see many games developed by a single guy, in a less than a year, and having way more content than Staxel could ever give right now, so that complaint is already pretty much void.

Time Played: Steam; 7.1 Hours (As of this post). Humble Bundle; 94.2 Hours. - In total: 101.3 Hours.
Personal Commentary: Game is good, but the Dev Team is questionable with how they do things, not to add that it's missing a lot of core elements that it should already have.
My Enjoyment: 8/10 if you start a new world, when you played a good hour or two, it rapidly declines to 3/10. It just becomes a chore, and nothing new is added.

Personal Score: 4/10 -- It isn't the worst game out there, but it's one that I should have done some research first before even buying it. But I was blinded by my own wishes to have a game similar to Harvest Moon.

Whilst fun and played 255 hours over 7 years I think? The game got more and more hackers. The community servers are dead, competitive is broken and it takes ages to get on a match, and Casual, as I said, full of hackers and people who just... Scream. A lot. I wouldn't recommend it until Valve gets off their lazy butt and actually do things to fix these issues '^'

Good game. Balanced BR compared to the other crappy BRs out there (I'm looking at you Playerunknown's Battlegrounds.) and a fun Horde and PvP Mode.

Early Access Review
OH BOY. I really hoped to not write this... But here we go.

I will write this with the most open mind I can muster without going braindead.

To put thing aside; No, I do NOT care about Graphics. I love any game as long as it's made good, or has a good storyline. Does this game fall in those both categories? It does not. Sadly.

I bought the game around nearly two years ago. I bought it because it seemed interesting, I wanted something fresh. What did I get? Broken game, nearly no content, AI was nonexistant, guns didn't even work at this point of the game, all I did was walk around at areas and it lagged my PC, HARD. (Keep in mind that I have a PC capable of running high-demanding games around High/Ultra. Are you gonna blame it on my PC? Probably. If not, then I will be impressed.)

Anyways... I thought "Okay... I just recently bought it and it just came out a few months on Steam after I bought it, I give him a slack and write nothing, and keep the game, and see where it goes.".... So I waited, weeks turned to months, months to... Well, nearly two years. I reinstalled it, and started the game back up again, to make sure I get everything.... What did I get after nearly waiting two years? The same thing as before.... Well, atleast he got the guns working, but other than that, everything was the same.

What will I do now? Of course say what I have in my mind about the game, so here we go. (Oh boy, I haven't even started my review and I already wrote a lot.)

To begin with; I will copypaste what his "Early Access" reasonings are and then explain what I think about it.

'Why Early Access?'

“I chose Early Access to gather feedback from the community to help push the game further into a more polished state, to help bring out a polished, content-packed full release. This Early Access copy does not represent the final product. You will experience bugs that I intend to kill, and so on. You've been warned. If you feel let-down with the current state of the game, please feel free to get in contact with me and address any glaring issues you see with the game, and I will happily listen. I encourage you to refund if you feel let-down as well. No hard feelings.”

Well, I already see a few errors, I will NOT Talk about the developer, but the game itself.

"I chose Early Access to gather feedback from the community to help push the game further into a more polished state"; This right there, is a total lie. Two years after the release, and yet the game is as unpolished as it was released to us on a silver-plate. I do understand that school and work can get in the way, and that windows can delete your stuff via updating, but this is no excuse. If windows deletes your files, it is your fault for not saving them in the first place, if school is in the way, it is your fault for starting whatever you were doing, too early. I even lost my savestate on Stardew Valley, after my PC deleted all my folders, because of an update, because I haven't saved them on an USB Stick, but I do not blame Windows, I blame myself for being stupid.

Anyways, point is, blaming stuff for ruining it, and hoping that everyone will believe it will not get any Dev far in the gaming life, and this is the only time I WILL be talking about the Developer. (Kind of breaking a rule I made, sorry!), But yeah. This is no excuse.

'How long will the game be in Early Access?'

“Full Release is planned for around the middle of 2017.”

One word, good luck on that, you passed your deadmark half year ago already; This is no complaint to me, but it is frustrating to see this without a change, even after the latest update being half year ago.

'What's the current state of the game?'

“If I were to give a percentage, I'd say around 75%. I started development in August 2015. Due to a hard drive failure in mid-2016, all files were lost on all hard drives on my PC. I started development again in October 2016, and released the new game on December 16, 2016.”

I know this is an old post, but even so, if this game is already 75% done, I fear how it will look when it's fully done, when the game itself looks already barren with nothing in it; Let's do a 'Simulation' shall we? Guy A and Guy B want the game. Guy A buys the game so Guy B can watch, and he sees the game is 75% is done. Guy B and A are hyped how the game will be, only to be greeted with nothing but nearly barren land, just enemies with near to no AI, few weaponries, no idea where to go but around, and kill stuff that kills other stuff, and it's just a 'Oh, you hit me? Let me hit you back!'-scenario. Both Guy A and B are displeased, not to add that the game has been in development for 2 years, luckily for Guy B, he knows now NOT to buy the game, whilst Guy A will get a refund.

Does this sound... Pleasing for a game? I wouldn't think that it does.

Now for MY Word on it, and MY view of the game;

Is it a good game?

On paper, heck yeah! But how it's done right now? No, it's just a mess. Which is sad.

Would I recommend it?

I got a few laughs because of how 'retarded' the AI is, but after the laughter is gone from it, the game becomes mundane in just a few minutes, there's nothing to capture your attention. Unless a person wants to waste money on a game that gets boring quickly, I would say; No, I wouldn't recommend it anyone.

Did I EVER give feedback to the game?

Yes, I did, multiple times even! How did it end up? I felt ignored, fully ignored by the Developer, and sometimes even bashed at by the Developer, for saying "Hey, there's a glitch, where if you walk there, you fall and die. Just wanted to makre sure you know. Bye!". I understand stress but this is just ridiculous.

Do I want my cash back from this game?

I might be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to everyone for saying this, but, No. Why? I want to developer to keep my cash, so he atleast can BELIEVE that somebody here, is still hoping for a good game, and I am. I am very hoping that this guy comes out of his hiding hole and finishes this game to what we were promised.

Will I give it a try again?

Absolutely... If it gets an update that is.

The game hasn't been updated for about half year now, and if updates are going to only come out every half to a year's time... Then I will consider to not try it until atleast a few updates came out, adding more content and bug fixing.

How much would I rate it?

Right now, I find it unfair towards the Developer to rate the game with ANY number as of right now, the game is an Early Access, and I find it unfair if an Early Access game is rated poorly, only because of a few bugs or glitches, so how will I do it? I won't recommend the game to anyone, yet giving no score, yet. If the game comes out fully, I will be giving my final verdict here.

And to the final question; Do I think this is a game worth the price right now?

Absolutely not. For $10/10€, a game that is poorly made, broken, no content, bugs, and no optimization at all, I feel like the Developer should atleast, release a Demo, so people can get a taste how the game is, then buy it, and with this, support the developer on this game.

Atleast that's what I would hope, but let's be fair, everyone's hungry for money, right? I understand that you need everything to make a game, but I've seen people creating Early Access games that were Free Access until it was released (Games like RAFT), fully free, until the game is released, where if you buy it, that cash will go for more content as a 'Thanks!'. Can this game be an excuse? Not really, and I am sad to say this... But this game is not worth at all, not even one buck, and... If you bought this game, well... Good luck buddy.

Any questions about my review? Want to get in contact with me? Just add me on Steam and message me, and I will explain more; Oh and for the Developer, a Special Message; You are free to add me, and message me if you want to talk to me about my review. Hope to see you all!

It's a fun game, Even when crashing a few times, it's still alot of fun. Although the 8GB Ram is a lie. I own a 4 GB RAM Computer, and GRAV still works fine. It does crash cause of Skype. But If I have skype closed, The game works perfectly Lag-Free without Crashing.
