I have played this game since almost day one. I have watched it cahnged from nothing into something that could be amazing and include so much more. The only real complaint that I have is that the grind is long and tedious. Best thing to do, play the game, it's free. If you like it then support the devs and buy a new class, particularaly in the officer range, they ear credits significantly fast, and just have fun with it. Don't expect to go in and be the best player if you drop 100 bucks on the game and buy the top tier everything. Start at the bottom and learn how the game works. A lot of the time, if you have the best gear, that doesn't mean a damn thing, you still die just as easy as a level 1.
