This game is similar to Zombie Army Trilogy and Sniper Elite 4, its basically the same devs.

--- Main Review---

8.5/10 Worth a buy if you have the cash

The campaign is your standard campaign, took me about 6-7 hours to complete it once, so its not a very long campaign. Story is okay, its there but nothing memorable. The set pieces are beautiful and the color and lighting work very well together.

Progression is in the form of collecting relics and opening chests to find rng charms to put on your weapon (Think dishonored 2) which have 1-4 slots depending, so you build your weapon with the charms you get and want to use. "Heal on kill", "Ice effect" etc...

You also buy new guns and bomb types with gold earned in maps, while active skills are purchased by collecting relic sets and getting skill points.

I havent tried horde mode and score attack yet but Im guessing it plays very similar to Sniper elite 4's survival mode, and Resident evil franchise's Mercenary modes respectively. These are probably your endgame trials to keep you entertained after the campaign is done.

The entirety of the game can be played in 4 player coop, and you can use multiple of the same character, so youre not locked out of one just cos your friend is running him/her.

Combat is pretty good, and plays out like a mix of Serious Sam and Sniper elite 4. You can roll infinitely which is important because the enemies swarm you and they have a lot of AOE and ranged attacks.

Puzzles are okay, nothing too extroadinary its your basic minigame puzzles like activate buttons in order, redirect lasers with mirrors, and the pipe connecting minigames etc.

If you're asking if its worth 40 bucks then I'll say probably, but its not an easy sell. if you found Sniper Elite 4 worth your money on launch this game is definitely worth it.

So all in all, it is something I would reccomend even though it wont last very long as it doesnt have Borderlands or vermintide style loot, after collecting the relics etc you might be hardpressed to grind.

---Concern---

The way the medium and small chests work in coop- is dumb. Basically whoever gets to it first and opens it gets the loot, while everyone else are shafted out of the loot chance. Its lame because you get people who know the map spots and chest spawns and they just bumrush all the chests looting the map dry before you get a chance at it. ideally you want to play with friends so you can rotate chances. I dont know why the devs did this, maybe they want to encourage competition but this is just dumb because youre going to be more concerned with finding chests than enjoying the levels.

---Bonus comments---

The combat sequencing in this game feels a little weird. Its a game that works well in coop, but when the actual fight begins its every man for himself, as I mentioned its similar to Serious sam ,so youre gonna be dodging and running around the fight area quickly shooting down foes and worrying about your own survival. Your teammates only ever become a concern when they get downed and you have to rescue them.

Sometimes you get killed by teammates shoot-activating traps near you as they are unaware of your proximity. Its a little hilarious but its a small thing you gotta watch out for.

You get this David Attenborough sounding British narrator that talks to you through the game, commending you on successful dodges, headshot streaks, etc.

Most of the negative reviews are free week players who jump in, get destroyed in 20 minutes, and ragequit and leave a negative review. I can see how for a new player who doesnt know how to play the game a hunter will roll them over, but pit a team of decent players against each other and the game truly shines.

The game is hard. As a hunter or runner you have to learn the game and its intricacies. Right now a ton of games are one-sided because players dont know how to play yet. That said, the game itself is a fun, adrenaline filled action game that requires you to stay vigilant at all times.

Its still way early in EA, so theres still a lot of stuff they are going to add and fix. Don't listen to the free week hoppers who dont give the game enough time to learn before dropping their negative reviews.

Right now its 20$ worth of content, but with time Im sure that value will increase.

(UPDATED FOR HALLOWEEN UPDATE)

I won't lie. This is Left4Dead.

Recently the Invasion major update came out and it gave me a reason to go back to playing due to a new progression system. I do feel the current skills progression is too grindy in some skills (150 bosses killed just to unlock a skill?) but its a step in the right direction. You can also earn some cool skins and weapon trinkets through a leveling system similar to Fortnite's battle pass. It's free and part of the game so don't worry about that.

The new invasion mode is a horde game mode similar to Killing Floor 2 where you survive 20 waves of aliens, you can use credits earned in match to purchase guns , ammo, barricades etc. Its worth a try.

That said, there are things that differentiate this game from the zombie titan game that is L4D. Let's start with the best parts about this game.

---The barricades---
I wish more games had this. Essentially Earthfall excels at the defence game, its main differentiating point. Barricades work like metal gates which can be picked up and placed anywhere on the map. If you try to place one near a door, it autosnaps to cover the door. You can reposition them as and when. You can pass the gates as they will automatically open for you, still holding the aliens off on the other side until they are destroyed. There are also auto-turrets, a fabricator similar to the one from Gears of war, and your standard propane tanks. While currently there aren't much variety, the system works and it is still fun setting up these barricades to hold up.

---Visuals---
The game looks pretty. The lighting, environment design and map design in general looks decent.

The gun models look very detailed, and they look way better than L4D's vanilla guns in comparison.

---Enemy Variation?---
While the majority of the aliens are left4dead copy and pastes (Jockey/tank/Boomer... You get it) there are a few new types such as one which flies at you and flashbangs you in the face, before retreating and hiding behind some EMP shield. If the devs continue to create these unique alien types it will do better at distinguishing them from your L4D special infected. This ones up in the air and its up to the devs to implement.

The not so good:

---AI---
AI is dumb asf, both ways.
Survivor AI is really bad, they generally are okayish, but they often get stuck in places, and they cant hit for nuts. Expect being jockeyed away to your death as the AI tries to chase you only to stop and fight some normal aliens along its route, essentially sending a big "F you!" to you.
Alien AI is terrible as well, although I would not say Alone in the dark level bad. The AIs are pretty much mindless aliens that run at you in hordes regardless and also seem to get stuck in places. Ive seen aliens just chilling in corners and the like.

UPDATE: It seems the AI did kinda improve since. I've seen less chilly aliens and theres a setting now to make the bot more accurate. They are still pretty dumb so dont expect them to be much better.

It works okay, in that you can still play a game with the AI, just that there will be behaviors that make you annoyed regularly.

---Guns---
Guns sound really soft and unimpactful. They also dont have good feedback, with the soaking zombies like the tank clone eating shots without proper indication of progress. Sure, the gun designs are pretty, and I enjoy that you can aim down sight with RMB unlike L4D, but a ton of work still needs to be done on the guns, and right now they feel very mobile-fps like.

Overall verdict: 7/10 as of 19 July 2018.
New Overall verdict: 8.5/10 as of 02 Nov 018.

On release they added quite a few stuff such as completing the maps for a full campaign, a skin system( Which is fine, its ten bucks for a whole set of skins ), and some new enemies. However, most of what I said still stands.

Make a judge what you will on your own. Review gameplay videos, look at the discussions and reviews and decide. The game currently would be worth around 10 bucks on sale, but anything more we will need the devs to up their game.

TLDR; L4D clone with mobile-like animations and okay-ish AI. Some cool concepts which will help the game immensely if devs expand on them. Thumbs up because there is still a ton of potential, and isnt exactly too much of a rip off at 15 bucks.

EDIT:

GAME IS COMPLETELY ABANDONED NOW. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Great game. 8/10
---Closest resemblance?---
Isometric Dying light/ Project Zomboid

--P2W?--
You can use IRL money to buy clothes but really all they offer you are just aesthetics. All clothing items(Yes the starter ones too) can be upgraded to contain slots and the stats are farmed from ingame drop items, and you can earn ingame tokens for buying the paid clothes. (There are stat buffs from clothing sets, but they aren't really needed, more of a min/maxing thing.)

---Food and water---
Basically what you would expect. Food and water bar, top up with different items. However there is a stamina system which you spend to pick up items and food/water, so you have to plan out what you need to take etc.

---The Weapons---
+Items and weapons are varied and can be found in where you would expect them (Well, mostly).
+Has an MMO style gear system with dmg values and item durability.
+Crafting system where you craft gear from base materials. There used to be an awesome combination system similar to Dying Light but its gone for now. (Its actually better now! You can store base mats in your salvage bag and craft the items from there.)

----Difficulty---
+The game is actually pretty challenging. You need to draw zombies out and attack them one by one. Sometimes you can attack a few at once but you take a big risk. Some zombies can stun you and a few hits can take you down in seconds if you are not careful.
+Different weapons do provide many ways to take on hordes. Some areas are too packed with zombies and you have to take alternate routes or draw them with distractions.
-Mobs can sometimes respawn faster than you can clear. This causes an issue if you are in an area alone and there are no other players around.

---Death---
+-Dying will cause you to drop ALL your items and there is one chance to run back and loot your stuff back or lose them forever.
-It gets annoying when you die because of lag or unforeseen consequences that careful playing doesnt save you.
+You get a second chance as long as you keep your food and water bar above a certain value. It also means you burn through food and water when it happens, but the food and water drop rates have been increased since beta so its easier to recoup.
+-There is no item locker apart from resource storage so sometimes you get cool stuff you want to keep but you cant and risk it if you die.

---Multiplayer---
+Game works well in Coop. You can work together with players you meet in the world, or form your own team with friends. Think open world MMO quest zones, except cooperation is much more impactful.
+There are players who will offer you free food water and weapons, and bring you around.
+There are a ton of intricacies in this game, and the more experienced players can help out the newbies by teaching them the ropes.
+Loot is instanced so you get your own loot, and you dont have to worry about taking all the stuff from a box and others not getting them.
-Killing zombies does not distribute exp within party members, which can be a little annoying.

---Community---
The community in this game so far is pretty great. Its a game built around cooperation and there are many around to help out. Looting is instanced to your own loot so you dont have to worry or fight for loot.

---Endgame---
Past level 30 you will reach the end of the current storyline and you stop getting story quests. From here on out it can seem grindy as you basically just farm exp and mats to build your camp and levels. Although most MMOs are like that, Dead Maze does not have a very clear cut line of progression and it can be easy to waste your time not getting your way efficiently.

The game becomes fashion maze actually, you end up farming for new clothes and dyes.

---Others---
+Story is pretty cool. There are some drawn cutscenes and there is a general campaign questline to follow. No voice acting, but its still pretty cool nonetheless. The story itself? That's up to you to decide, but I wasnt expecting much. Got quite interested though.
+Expeditions and daily quests can be done like an MMO.
+Sound design and music ambience is great. The map design really makes you feel like you are part of the apocalypse. I was not expecting much from an Isometric game that looked like a Facebook game at first glance but as I played more it kinda got me immersed.
-Some areas really make you go insane as you cannot jump over low fences/ walk through gaps you should be able to etc.... There is a designated path through and you have to follow it most of the time.
-Map design could use better work/ The compass points to the objective but you wouldnt know you had to detour a different route to get there. It is easy to get lost your first time through.

Overall a fun game and would highly reccomend to fans of zombie games like Dying Light etc... Bring your friends!

From playing 2hours and getting to the last map of the first campaign as an engineer, The first few maps on coop, third map on solo.

TLDR; [ Good coop game, current state value about $20, get it at current price if you have cash to spare. Make sure you have friends to play with, as there is seldom anyone playing this game. Game has almost no story content or cutscenes/voice. If you dont mind not having an engaging story and just want a blast with your friends doing objectives and staving off the hordes of enemies. If you liked Killing Floor, Left 4 Dead, Resident Evil etc. ]

Good:
-Level design is interesting, certainly keeps the tension feel to it.
-Use of light sources help build tension as you cannot just run and gun, you need to use light spots strategically. Light spots have finite use lengths, so you cannot just run aorund lighting everything up.
-Abilities actually help.
-Coop has a good feel to it and it is actually fun in coop. Coop and unlockables add to replayability.
-Infinite ammo pistol. This is a personal favorite.
-General gameplay feels good, and the game presentation is nice. Guns sound and feel good, killing monsters are quite satisfying.
-Classes are decent enough.
-Randomized objectives.

Can be improved:
-Game is a ghost town, literally. I have only ever found one coop game on listing and every other time I have tried since then there are no games at all. Coop in this game has potential but if there is nobody playing it kind of defeats the whole purpose.
-The monster that shoots the acid spit is currently game breaking. There is no audio indication when such monster spawns behind you and shoots an acid at you. Getting hit by an acid is too damaging. A loud audio indication would be good to warn the player there is one charging up a spit when it spawns behind. Which brings us to.
-Monster spawns. Having an infinitely spawning horde is great for keeping tension and challenge. However, there are issues currently with how the monsters spawn. They seem to spawn out of nowhere even in places you just walked by 5 seconds ago. It would be great if monsters could spawn by crawling out of vents, etc..
-AI, I am sure many would agree with this as there are quite a number of issues with the AI. The monsters will tend to lose aggro for no reason and just stop there staring into space. They also tend to get stuck behind objects and walls. I would love to see the AI being reworked such that these issues do not occur.
-AI issues and the light sources. The unique part in this game about how monsters cannot be damaged unless in a light spot is currently being affected by the AI. AI will sometimes just stop chasing before it enters a light spot, making the player need to actively try to aggro it again and pull it into a source. The light source issue extends especially to the acid spitting monster. Because it trie to engage you at range, it often just shoots you from outside the range of a light source. This is frustrating because the player now needs to reposition entirely outside of the light in order to force the spitter's range to walk into the light. This is an issue when playing solo as you also have to deal with hordes of other monsters.(Again solo because coop is ghost townish)
-Other minor issues such as the blast radius of detonation objectives being actually bigger than what is shown, blasts always cause all ambient sounds to just abruptly stop.

Concerns about the game's future:
-Finishing the first campaign in around 2-3 hours, and there are only three campaigns, it might seem that the game length would be rather short. This might afffect replayability. Especially since you only have two abilities and a defined weapon set, you dont ge to unlock new stuff to play around with, instead you level just to improve your stats.
-The game does not have any story at all. No voice acting, no cutscenes, and the 'story' is given through white text on the bottom left corner of the map. It would have been great if there was a story developing the characters and how they get out of this situation, motives etc. Needs more voice acting.
-Barely anyone knows about this game. It is not on steam news, not on featured page, infact I only know about this game because i was scrolling the Steam coop listings and chanced upon it. Almost everyone I know has no clue this game even exists.
-The game so far feels like a demo of a really good game which has the potential if developed with a story, better AI, more content, and more people knowing about it. Of course, it might be too late now, but who knows? If the developers decide one day to pick this up again with a larger budget and a team dedicated to making a great game out of this, we might have one of the best coop games of the year.
