Edit: after the recent updates and promises for new content I am more divided then ever on if this is a great game or not based on their new "sunsetting" idea. While new content is good, the content and story they have is less fleshed out then many other franchises. They have so much they can do story wise, but because of some unexplained tech limitations they choose to delete entire planets instead of anything else.....like making the planets optional downloads, or standalone mini games, or comic books, or one of thousands of ideas other game makers use daily. I guess i'll play this until Cyberpunk 2077 comes along.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did not care as much for the first Destiny, and I think there is room for improvement, but I think this is a great game overall and has a lot of potential. I have spent almost 1000 hours in this game at the time of writing and there is still content i haven't seen yet. If you can pick it up when the game and add-ons are all half off, you should do so right now. There is a good balance between a shooter and an mmorpg. Its casual enough for you to be able to pick it up a few hours a week, or you can grind on it for 12 hours a day. You will enjoy this game, but because of the things below, dont expect it to be your #1 anytime soon.

Now, with all of that good stuff being said, there is a down side. On the negative side of the game is the daily/weekly repetitiveness of the bounty system. While you can be a casual player, you will probably never see any end game content and never get the best gear (but because of the next part you might on your first day). The random rolls for weapons, weapon catalyst, and armor is also flawed. Meaning you can play for weeks trying to get one weapon or piece of armor and still be left empty handed, or get the best weapon in the game on day one. For example, I have waited for about 800 hours to obtain the Rat King catalyst despite playing daily. Also, for an IP that is over 6 years old (and from the previous makers of Halo games) there is less lore then one might think. No movies, TV shows, spinoff games, book series, etc. Its a vast empty Destiny universe that could be massively expanded under the right vision, but sadly all they seem to be currently doing is milking about $70 per year from each loyal player in season passes and expansions.

So should you play it? Yes
Should you expect a lot of content? More or less
Will it win awards and knock your socks off? Not at all
