I love battlestar galatic, i love the lore but to be honest? Dont ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ get this game. This game is insanely rigged for the cylons in the campaign. They have better dps, better missiles, they will blind missile fire you before even your vipers can find them. They have better armor values, and better firing arcs. In short in this game cylons are pretty much better then humans in every single value, the only way you can win is by outplaying the AI.

Bluntly speaking this game is a brutal RTS experience, ive played RTS for over 2 decades and this really is one of the most rigged god forsaken experiences ive ever had. Its even worse then total war legendary because the cylons will spawn 2-3 or even more stacks in your territories EVERY TURN. Combined with how they have twice the effective range you do and eventually after a few hours of pulling your hair out you just give up.

Long story short? The devs did great making the game, but failed horribly in balancing and only served to make the campaign a horrible brutal cheaty experience. I DO NOT recommend anyone get this. The only way to win is by cheating around how you KNOW the AI will snipe you across a map before you even see them.

To be blunt, the Cylons by lore have great sensors etc, but why do they have better weapons, dps, and even armor values then colonials? It doesnt make sense other then to brutalize the player. And for that reason i really will never recommend this gameto anyone. The devs brutalize the player in non lore ways, tie their hands behind their back, and give lore specific advantages their supposed to have to the AI because ♥♥♥♥ humans right? we love getting our ♥♥♥♥♥ kicked in by cheating AI

Edit: I've played the game more since i already am stuck with it, theres a lot of fun to be had but my original review stands. Cylons get EVERYTHING in this game, they have better weapons, better sensors, better missiles, better power management systems, better utility weaponry, better FTL on the campaign map. Literally in every catagory in campaign, cylons will beat out colonials. The devs have a real hard on for cylons, theyve literally said "I wish we were cylons too" One ship they have has regenerating nukes, but cylons get a missile called the comet which flips all of yours including your nukes right back on you. Cylon frigate gunships like the revenant can beat out battlestars in 1 on 1 combat, its a joke.

Games trash, I honestly tried to play this game at for a little while I really enjoyed it but honestly, its insanely repetitive, incredibly grindy and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ obnoxious as ♥♥♥♥ because if you play solo the bosses will just fly away ALL THE TIME, youll be so close to killing them, and they fly away and then go off to some obscure corner of the map, you get there, and they fly away again. By the time its almost dead they leave the map. Its stupid as ♥♥♥♥, not to mention they have ENTIRELY WAY to much hp and the status effects they proc are absurd. ♥♥♥♥ like stun alone is stupid a hell. Long story short i got my little thrill out of the game but i get why the game has such ♥♥♥♥ reviews now, its boring repetive trash that has an absurd scale up of monsters that just hit harder with more cheese ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ movesets and more ridiculous amounts of HP as they run away.

You never unlock new skills or make your character more interesting, its just grind for more armor/weapon parts as you struggle going up a wall fighting the same reskinned monsters with absurd hit boxes, high status effect movesets and nonsensical run away cheese crap just to drag the game out. I for one am uninstalling, i dont need this sort of ♥♥♥♥

Dont get this game, just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dont.

If you want to play multiplayer, its basically dwarves and a few other factions, some are entirely underpowered like Empire who have an almost entirely trash unit roster (except for some cav units). Their melee is basically bottom tier trash, and a lot of their arty are pretty meh among the factions with them (at least they have them i guess)

The real problem with this game though is the fun of a total war game is in the campaign. Ive been playing total war games for over a decade now, and I will be blunt. This is quite possibly one of the most cheaty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ total war games i have EVER played, and among the most cheaty period of any RTS ive played in my entire life.

The AI even on normal gets an ABSURD amount of hidden bonuses that break the game mechanics, like being immune to horde attrition, not being limited with agents, infinite money, 50-90% reductions on upkeep based on cost. And these are just the out of battle campaign bonuses. In battle? AI units on hard or higher will have a flat massive hidden bonus to attack/defense/morale/vigour. To the degree that an unupgraded stock swordsman from empire with 30 armor can beat out a upgraded one with 50. All thanks to AI hidden bonuses. Also AI units will rerally within about 30 seconds of breaking thanks to their incredibly high cheat morale replenishment.

Im used to aggravating mechanics in total war games, im used to cheats. Ive played Attila on legendary as both WRE and ERE, ive dealt with aggravating AI tactics but at least in those titles when I ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up a unit to below 25% they didnt come back to the battle THREE more times. A unit with less then 5 men out of a 90 man unit shouldnt come back. Even worse if they survive the battle they survive. A human player with less then 10%-15% of a unit will ALWAYS lose it, the AI? They can survive 90% casualties.

This game is absurdly broken, even on forums there are complaints about the cheats. The developers didnt bother to balance the AI at all, they just turned cheats up to over 9000 and for that reason i never want to play this game again. Ill go back to Attila

In the past i ♥♥♥♥ on Atilla for its own cheat problems, but compared to warhammer, those issues and such are a joke. The level of AI cheats here, devs needs a bullet in the brain

Seriously, some of you have seen the anime, some have seen the videos. DONT ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GET THIS GAME.

Its a poorly balanced piece of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ garbage that is designed intentionally to be a brutalizing experience for a human player in typical japanese ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fashion. Lets go over it shall we?

1: The AI will NEVER miss. Ontop of knowing exact placement distances for movement, the snipers, lancers and tanks have literally GOD accuracy. They'll never miss you, especially later in the game. Enjoy getting headshot by lancers from across the map. The problem with this? Your own lancers cant hit a tank at point blank range, and in terms of stats the AI is supposed to have the inferior accuracy weaponry. Basically the AI is given a MASSIVE bonus for all accuracy attempts

This wouldnt be an issue except the AI/Empire weaponry does about 10-25% more damage then your own, the con side is supposed to be bad accuracy when you get them yourself. Except no one ever uses them in meta because the accuracy penalties are so bad you can go an entire battle without hitting anything. Meanwhile the AI can NOT physically miss. Its very very bad. You'll notice very quickly the ridiculous accuracy assist the AI has

2: Infinite respawns, a lot of maps are filled with infinite respawn trash, it wouldnt be so bad except that they get more movement points then you and tied in with the literally insane accuracy values your going to pull your teeth out when that lancer/sniper that just spawned across the map starts pot shotting you and you cant do anything about it.

3: Snipers are worthless until mid-late game. Until you get snipers to elite and better weapons they'll never hit anything, of course this doesnt apply to AI snipers who can hit your finger if it was sticking out of a trench from a mile away.

4: Counter attack mechanics, the AI will always stop moving immediately when you try to counter attack them as they move into your range, with inhuman speed, meanwhile a human player cant replicate and just gets ♥♥♥♥ on by local area fire.

5: Forgot to mention this, but the AI has huge bonuses to damage when your in cover as well. Their snipers will shoot you in the head from across the map while your in cover for well in excess of 100 HP. When you do the same youll be lucky to do 50, even with the same rifle.

Honestly, I loved the anime, I liked a lot of this game, but I cant tolerate a game that creates artificial difficulty by literally cheating. Why should the AI have god accuracy with weapons worse then mine when I can't hit the broad side of a barn? Its literally frustrating to the extreme and makes the game utterly unplayable and a painful miserable experience late game. If you read older reviews online, many complaints are the same as mine. The nigh unrealistic accuracy for the AI makes this one of the worst gaming experiences ive ever had in terms of artificial difficulty

DO yourself a favor, dont ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ get it. Just dont

PS: Ive replayed some more and my verdict still stands, its a brutal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ experience, the AI can snipe you across the map for one shots while your in cover when stat wise their weapons cant even cover half that distance. This game is one of the most brutalizing cheating AI ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ experiences of my entire life. I will never reinstall

This review leaves me with mixed feelings. I've played this game in the past and to be honest it was a lot better then, I really REALLY loved it and i tried to replay it now after a lot of Frostpunk, however..... the game now as it stands after the devs tweaked hidden game settings over and over again has just become an awful experience. Lets go over it

1: Raids, these will happen on a near nightly basis even from the first day on the first campaign. You put 2 people on guard? Too bad you have no weapons so the raiders take all your food. GG restart. Same ♥♥♥♥ happens on day 2? GG restart again.
Why does this piss me off? Because years ago raids weren't anywhere near as frequent, from the getgo raids exist PURELY to tax your bases resources and injure people. In a real world if you shot and killed people who attacked you in a warzone, youd loot their corpses for weapons, armor and ammo. In this game? All you do is lose resources to raids, this was fine until they tweaked the settings so that its basically a 50/50 chance of getting raided every night right from day 1 even outside of a crime wave

2: Random map locations, you can get literally screwed over so hard by getting locations that you're forced to either steal from people and get massive mood penalties or super hard combat locations like construction site, hotel, etc right on day 1 as your only choices to work off of. Either you lose in the first week from depression or people are killed by the combat with no weapons. You can say to tiptoe or do cautious looting, except that this is PURELY rng dependant on what you start with, and you can frequently get so screwed at the start you have to just exit and restart the scenario for better locations. Thats a problem where im sitting

3: Theft triggers. Even after all these years there are countless locations like the notorious Hotel that STILL proc negative theft penalties when your killing people that even ingame on that map is saying are lunatics (the mutilated bodies in hotel for instance that says theyre psychos), yet you loot the place after euthanizing their blight? Enjoy depression in your house, good times. That bug has been around since the very get go, still around.

Look, I can cheese a game, i can strategize like most of the best and find a way to make it work, but thats not what my review right now is about. Its about how the game is more painful to play then it used to be, it doesn't force hard decisions on you for the sake of morals now, but rather forces you to get screwed by overly tuned mechanics that tie you into the same cookie cutter play style EVERY map now

Words can not describe how insanely unbalanced and broken this game is to play even now years after release (Since CA the developers went "We dont want to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fix anything, were making new games) And before you start going "OH OH DOWNVOTE HIM HES TALKING BAD ABOUT THE GAME WE LOVE SO MUCH EVEN THOUGH WERE BLIND", even the people who make youtube videos for Total War games say Attila is unbalanced trash and it ruins the game entirely

Broken Units, insanely unbalanced, worse ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI then in Rome 2, CA completely abandoned it and refuse to put out any more patches to fix bugs and game balance breaking issues. Campaign is a giant ♥♥♥♥ you made of artificial difficulty and infinitely spawning stacks with an AI that prioritizes you from across the known world despite being at war with a neighbor. Game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ unbalanced trash. Do yourself a favor and don't get it, what ever little improvements they made to the game from previous versions they ruined everything else in game play factor for it, people ♥♥♥♥ on Rome 2 but at least Rome 2's units were balanced, in Attila there is no unit balance to be found, some factions are utterly worthless for no good reason to (Western Rome for instance has the weakest infantry, cavalry & skirmishers of all the factions when historically they were still a major force to be reckoned with) And without mods the AI will fill its armies with 50% ranged & cavalry spam (which with ai mass coordinating all those moves/skirmishers means nothing but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ obnoxious headaches)

Oh and theres also super messed up traits for the generals, basically any action you do other then releasing troops will get your emperor super huge negative penalties and the more battles your generals win the more ♥♥♥♥♥♥ traits they get that lower morale/other factors as if to penalize you for no reason for winning your battles in campaign.

Long story short Attila is bottom trash game for Total War, devs totally abandoned it and wont even fix a thing which pretty clearly supports the fact they went "To much trouble to bother to fix" Add in the fact that the retarded devs made the game into poorly optimized ♥♥♥♥ and once again abandoned it mean the game will forever chug away going from 15 to 60 fps at random, and i really really hope you enjoy blatantly insane attack/defense/morale boost to the AI on any difficulty above hard. In Attila the only thing increasing that difficulty bar for battle does is make the AI spawn more infinite stacks for free and only gives them a giant buff to every stat cause "difficulty"

Almost every hour of my time spent playing the game has been with mods to fix all of the above issues, without mods playing vanilla the game is one the most unpleasant awful gaming experiences possible to endure.
