It's a bloody good game, and I will recommend it to anyone as long as you are ok with:
1) There are quite a few bugs; for me they are mostly things that are unreachable (even though you are right next to them). I have seen no game-breaking bugs.
2) Looting and inventory management is sucky (in the bad way).
3) It feels like you MUST open all crates you see, and read all books you see, otherwise you miss quest lines. Which gets really boring after the first 100 hours.

Automating stuff, crazy build bases, you gotta love this.
Just remember when saving the game, to put into savegame title what you are planning to do next, otherwise you might not have any clue about what you are supposed to be doing next, example:
"working on production for trains"

I thought I was getting a dark Pirates!, but alas no. Wonderful music, good writing but terribly boring game at this point in time. I wanted exploration and adventure, but instead I found a shallow grind for story and currency, limiting instead of enabling. This might be better on release as they hopefully will have implemented the trade system by then, but I suspect the story part will continue to be a grind.
Wait until the game is released and see if it is fixed before then.
