Groan-worthy, woke-garbage regurgitating the same idiotic themes. I'm so sick of this crap.

I really wish I can reccomend this, but it's 2024, folks. Games shouldn't be this glitchy, laggy and unreliable as this. I can load the game 3 times, and it'll run at 10 fps twice, and 50 fps once. What the actual ♥♥♥♥ is with that? The developers haven't rushed an optimization path for this or even mentioned one coming. Wait a year and see if the developer actually gives a ♥♥♥♥ enough to make this worth buying.

UPDATE: What made a massive improvement for me was going into my BIOS > Advanced > PCI SubSystem Settings > Allow Resize BAR = auto. Game went from pure performance hell to about 50 fps on an R7 5800X / RX 6650XT / 32 GB RAM on high settings / 1080p. I'll actually play it now and update my review now that I can actually play it, and once I get into it more.

So far so good! The art and music are great, and the gameplay shows some promising augmentations w/o going too far away from the core mechanics.

I was a huge skepitc, considering the changes to the gameplay they implemented, but I'm 9 hours in and loving it. It's very different, but if you think about how the people in the main scenario of the first campaign (and the consequent On The Edge DLC) would have proceeded over 30+ years after the first game, it makes more sense.

I do miss constructing individual buildings rather than by district, but with everything else going on that's new, I often forget about it in light of the bigger picture approach to the gameplay they've headed into.

So, to be clear, this game is absolutely phenomenal, but at the time of writing this review, I have spent less time playing the game, and more time trying to get it to work or even connect to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ servers. The platform team botched this up so badly that it's a waste of money currently.

UPDATE: Well, 53 hours in. It took them far too long to fix the server issues, but they did actually fix them. The game is great and getting regular updates, including new weapons and stratagems. Love it. Now's a good time to buy it.

Oh great, another competitive fps with unbalanced damage patterns and now with stronger woke undertones.

Boring, over-hyped, unoriginal.

I was really disappointed with this. Everything about this game feels unpolished and unfinished. One reviewer said about the same, except they said the combat was an 8/10. Maybe for 2003, but it's janky, simple and very beta feeling.

Even on sale, I'm not sure it's worth it. Sorry devs. Nice try, but it feels like you needed to polish it before you released it.

Server connectivity is a joke. It's buggy as all hell. I've gotten into the game 1 in 4 times, and even then my character teleports around and enemies run on the spot. This is a bad joke.

UPDATE:
Okay, after seeing that a server stability update was released for the client, I decided to give it another go. I'm really glad I did. I put a lot of my initial bias aside (again premium currency ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and the woke undertones in the characters), and I gotta give credit where it's due. This is unexpectedly fantastic, especially when you compare it to diablo 3. Here are some of the big wins in my eyes:

* Gameplay - Granted I've only played on the harder experienced mode so far, but you actually have to try not to die in some of the bigger battles that you can find yourself in, and boss fights as well. I really appreciate that you have to manage usage of your health potions because they are pretty limited, and I enjoyed the fact that some creatures and boss battles can absolutely destroy you pretty quickly if you're not being careful.
* World design - D3 just felt like procedurally generated regurgitation of prefabs and crafted micro-scenes, and I found it just felt pretty monotonous and boring. D4's world feels like the opposite. It's a pretty well crafted land that was designed really well.
* Sound design - Is surprisingly good. Whoever did the sound design in this deserves a bonus. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
* Soundtrack - Same sentiment. The composer and orchestra are exceptional
* Voice acting - More of the same. They didn't skimp on talent here, even for small roles

K, now a few things I don't like:
* It pushes you to jump into the seasonal content crap everytime you start the game
* You get social chat when you don't want it (same as d3)
* You get center-screen notificatiosn for stuff like "world boss spawning in X area"
* Premium currency purchases - Yeah, they're in there and it's just a reminder of how blizzard got greedy, but at least it's buried in a specific screen
* Always-online play - Despite the server fix, there have been a few hiccups that have been annoying.

Overall it's a 9/10 for me, and I went into this really hating on diablo.
