In Chrono Trigger you travel through time to prevent Tetsuya Nomura from emerging deep from the core of the planet. In 1999 Nomura emerges to begin his dark project called "Kingdom Hearts". Crono and friends travel forwards in time arriving in the year 2300 when Kingdom Hearts has fully infected the planet. In the desolation Crono and friends see people in black trench coats draped in zippers, millions of keyblades left scattered on the ground, and a lone Mickey Mouse asking Lucca if she has seen the Door to Darkness. After narrowly escaping the horrors of this bleak future Crono and friends travel through time risking their very lives to prevent this awful future from ever happening.
