Battle for Wesnoth is a turn based strategy game in a fantasy setting. It is also a game that has been growing on me. At first I felt it was a bit clunky (for example, building units requires opening a menu, selecting the unit and then building it for every individual unit you build). But I decided to continue playing and what I found was that it actually tells some pretty compelling stories in the campaigns. Not every campaign, I did not like all of them, but enough of them to make it more then worth it. And there are a lot of campaigns. It also has a few tactical elements. For example, it is not certain that an attack will hit and the probability that it will depends on the terrain and things like that. Sometimes it does feel like the chance to hit is a bit low, though, at least to me. But I would say that is more of an occational frustration and not a big issue.

The game may be free but it is open source rather then typical "free to play" and has no microtransactions at all. It is free in the best possible way and I really recommend the game.
