It's a good game. Very Quake like, in the best possible way (it's a very atmospheric game). Some things I particularly enjoy is the mobility given by the first weapon (it's alt fire lets you charge up a dash that can take you places), the gun play and just the design of the levels and the enemies. The music is very ambient and atmospheric, again feeling very Quake like. And you don't have a traditional level select but have a hub and portals that leads to the different levels (again as in Quake, but this time larger and feels more like an actual place with secrets and items laying around). It's also very challenging, at least to me.

The main "issue", which I'm no longer sure is an issue, is the save system. Basically saving is a form of resource management in this game. But after I got used to it, it made the game more tense and atmospheric since I couldn't save scum my way forward. So I end up having to think more rather then just charge in.

The levels are huge as well. Sometimes they feel a bit too huge, though. It also means you don't have to worry about loading screens interrupting you. So sometimes I like it, sometimes not. But the levels are well designed and I like them a lot.

Absolutely recommend the game.

It's great. A bit too great. Think I was dreaming of belts once...

You can punch the bullets from your shotgun so they do more damage on impact.

This game is great.

It's not just a great retro game, it's a great game. It's made with an updated Build engine, if I remember correctly, and they have done a very good job with it.

Things I liked:
* The first weapon, the revolver, is awesome and remains relevant and useful throughout the game. It's not one of those weak pistols you only use when you run out of ammo. Also the secondary fire is awesome.
* The protagonist, Shelly, is awesome.
* Explosions! Seriously, even Shelly asks at some point "why does everything around me explode?"
* The levels are great and filled with detail throughout the game. And they have plenty of hidden secrets, and if you don't find them all the game says that "real gamers do 100%".
* I like the art style and how the enemies look (even if it's very retro looking).
* It's fast and challenging.

It's not perfect, though. Minor gripes include:
* Not being able to look straight down. This did bother me at times when one of the annoying smaller enemies came up to me and I couldn't aim at it without moving first. Not a big deal, didn't happen that often, but it was slightly annoying.
* Towards the latter parts of the game you have been introduced to all the enemies, so you mostly get the same things thrown at you. It's not that bad but would be nice with a bit more new enemies towards the end.
* Sometimes moving things around is a bit too janky.
* It's not a short game, heard someone say it might even be the longest Build engine game (but don't quote me on that), however... I want more!

All of the negatives are minor gripes, though.

You get to be the monster and eat and terrify humans. It's fun! Only complaint is that it's easy to get lost, since there is no map (though I feel like the game kind of gets away with that for thematic reasons).

UPDATED REVIEW:

I got it to work on my Linux laptop (after an OS update, before I had to use an old, crappy Window laptop that's falling apart), and even though I had to use very low graphical settings, it was still great! Also for some reason it still looks soo good, even with everything set to low.

Suspect that most people can handle it better then my laptops (one is old the other is for work and not gaming), but even if that wasn't the case I would still highly recommend this game due to how fun it is. Fast paced, satisfying weapons, great soundtrack, great visuals even on low and great level design.

It also has a lot of enemy variety. The game is split up in episodes, and each episode has their own unique enemies which requires different strategies to beat.

At some of the later levels they do put you on ledges that can be a bit narrow for my taste, especially when fighting at the same time. And sometimes there is a bit too much first person platforming. But I feel like those are minor complaints, it's still a great game.

I am a bit confused by this game. First it seemed like a multiplayer game. Then before this Christmas I checked in on it again and it was a single player game, with multiplayer made into a DLC. Don't know what that is about.

On the upside I prefer single player so I got the game and I am really happy they added it. It's great! Just confused over why multiplayer is suddenly a DLC... but other then that, the game it awesome!

Really nice little game.

Since it is played in 1 minute "runs", so to speak, it was also easy not to be too engulfed in it for too long, which is great for those of us with too much to do and too little time.

I honestly never played any DOOM game as a child, so I am not really nostalgic... still really fun. I mean, you basically play a human racing car who beat hell without ever bothering to look up or down. What's not to like?

One gripe of mine is that if you move the mouse forward or backward, you move forward or backward in the game (note that WASD works as expected, this is just an additional way to move). Ended up solving that with a source port called PrBoom+ where it could be changed in the settings, and after that the game became more enjoyable. Guess I am too used to how keyboard and mouse work in more modern games, but I am glad it could be solved because I really like DOOM.
