Vietnam Radio Commander, another unique war strategy game that takes a different approach to war strategy gaming compared to the tradition but very unrealistic RTS style that is most common.
You are a radio commander, and you sit at your desk with a map and a radio, you have tiles representing your and the enemies units. They don't move around by themselves, you can radio for the position of your troops and put the tiles there to keep of what’s going on, or be a lazy mastermind and just memorize everything in your head, played the first campaign mission and could have done that but bet things will get massively chaotic and complex in the following missions soon enough lol
But as you don't see anything, and are neither some invisible ghost from the sky moving units around, but you actually have to radio and listen to your soldiers getting ambushed in the jungle, returning fire, getting wounded, speaking their mind over what they witness, expressing their views on the conflict, their doubts if they are really here to help these people, or are they just invading a country suppressed for ages under the colonial grip of exploitation from the French, or hear heavy fire, ask for status and only hear radio crackle and silence, and tensely wait until you might hear a voice of one of your men, still alive ... or is that pacifist soldier who not so long ago expressed that if we really wanted to help them we should have just send food aid, not killers and napalm bombs, bleeding to death as this is the longest silence ever?
Suddenly you hear a his hear voice, he can hardly talk and sounds terrible, you understand he has been shot but still alive, the wet gurgling voice of a man shot in the lungs and suffocating in his own blood...
We could never agree on anything, but after all these little disagreements, you will miss him, his arguments offered an intelligent discussion patrolling between the fire fights.
Not that you didn't appreciate every single one of your men you have lost as the war should have never lasted this long in the first place, whether they passionately talked about the letter they wrote to their high school sweetheart they were supposed to marry after their tour, or their passion for hunting alligators in their local swamp in the deep South. All of them deserved better.
-----that last bit is just a quick creative written fiction of that it feels like to play this game, like I said only did mission one so far, I already have wounded, but everybody made it out alive.

Your description of playing Vietnam Radio Commander is quite immersive and vivid. It seems like the game offers a unique perspective on war strategy gaming, focusing on the role of a radio commander who must rely on radio communications to understand the battlefield and make strategic decisions12.

The game appears to effectively create an atmosphere of war, highlighting the positives and negatives of the Vietnam War, especially from the eyes of a desk-bound commander1. The developers have been commended for trying something new here by showing a unique point-of-view on the war experience1.

It’s interesting how the game allows you to feel the tension and uncertainty of war, as well as the emotional toll it takes on the soldiers. Your creative fiction really brings out the emotional depth and complexity of the game.

I hope you continue to enjoy the game and best of luck with the upcoming missions! If you have any more thoughts or questions about the game, feel free to share. 😊

yeah, it really feels like you quickly get to know them personally just by the radio messages, and done so well you'd hate to see one die. Just played the first time and I'm already extremely impressed, with this simple and audio not graphics focused game, it deserve to win game awards of some kind, never played anything like it either

The game’s unique approach to storytelling and character development through radio messages seems to have made a strong impression on you. It’s indeed remarkable how a game can create such a deep connection between the player and the characters, even without relying on high-end graphics.

The fact that you believe it deserves game awards speaks volumes about its quality and the impact it has had on you. It’s always refreshing to come across innovative games that challenge the conventional norms of gaming and offer a unique experience.
