Early Access Review
Im not a train guy, but rather someone who just likes interactive "bells and whistles" to machinery under my control ala Microsoft Flight sim, Elite Dangerous, Star Citizen, DCS, etc and some of the gonzo things from the trailer and demo got me interested.

Storywise you play as a locomotive licensed mobster who is utilizing the trans siberian rail network as a cover to move around to complete tasks for the mafia. While immersive features are there like player needs, and a simplified but interactive swath of the trains mechanisms and devices exist as stereotypical PlayWay published games are.

My biggest gripes are the Freeplay/Endless mode is currently just a 1:1 repeat of the storymode just without the mafia work, whether you include the survival features or not. There is currently no variety to train cars or destinations in that mode. Not even any reasons to have your weapons outside of "hunting" animals, nothing like protecting your train cars from robbers, or fending off a competing mafia outfit trying to take you out while on the job, etc
This game will also force you into a "game over" screen instead of letting you ride the catastrophe into a fun spectacle like in Derail Valley which is a bummer considering how fast and loose this game plays with the idea of rail travel as is.

Might be one to keep an eye on and let it cook more, cause what is there, didnt seem super jank or anything.

This game is indeed FEAR + the suit from Crysis to a T.

Game vibes like a high quality asset recycle, plot is netflix relase grade, but its loads of dumb fun.

Visceral blood and gore response mechanics, active ragdolls with over the top SFX make it hard not to look back post firefight and take in your handy work for a few moments before moving on.

Pretty neato detective game based on a procedural generated city with likewise generated murder cases that occur in real time during gameplay that you may witness yourself, especially if it occurs out in public.

There are also sketchy side jobs that act as the moral grey area for someone skilled in stealth and detective work, but as much of a hardboiled detective vibe it gives off, your character "Swears off guns" and wont kill anyone. The developer states that being able to kill would break the games generation currently and probably the games point of solving crimes as it stands right now. However you can KO the s**t out of someone and paint the voxel environment with blood from the fight...which such leftovers dont seem to bother anyone.

Theres alot of indepth world reacting mechanics at play and a myriad of ways to go about building up your "string and corkboard" case file. You can profile people extensively for suspect certainty, be it prints, shoesizes, voice patterns, all the way to handwriting styles, etc. You can own an apartment and furnish it how you wish, you can be as stealthy as a ghost or you can be brash and Rorschach your way to your answers and other immersive sim qualities. You can adjust different faucets of difficulty or generation to your particular game to make it as much to your liking as well.

Will say as much as I like it and getting hungup on crime noir detective themes, there is a formula you can find yourself repeating with some time in and there are bugs still. Seems like a ton of people have no idea what InfoSec is and can eliminate deducing passcodes, Some Cases are typically solved with some 5 answer case paper you turn in to "the proper authorities" for payout which seems like the weakest part of the game imo. Essentially you just need a name, residence of the suspect, a finger print, weapon used and arresting them(and subsequently leaving them) which arresting is optional and acts as a bonus payout....there is no supplemental evidence, establishing motive, potential accomplices or testimonies to handle for such a turn in. Barely anyone will answer your questions and what all you can ask about is slim, or what would produce a productive answer.

TL;DR : Id recommend it if you love these sort of detective themes, this might be the closest your going to get after something like LA Noir, for $20 its a great deal and alot to enjoy for an Early Access title that feels like its got alot of promise and room to grow.

Man I sure wish I could noclip through my vehicle irl when wrenching things on and off

Simplified, but not super dumbed down. Its a pretty cool chillout game when looking for something to occupy yourself while listening to podcasts n' what not.

glow brighter than the sticks you drop in a cleared room!

jokes aside, one should be buying this as love letter back to VOID for a solid debut so far for the pricetag and future promises, not for whats instantly given. All you get from this DLC is the FBI/HRT multicam aesthetic gear set and its uniform - the rest is promised for a later date.

Addressing a common question ive seen : To access that uniform and gear after purchase, once in the pregame lobby/briefing room head to the mirror and select "alpha" or "bravo" characters, then proceed to the equipment locker to customize. Worn SWAT gear and FBI gear are not interchangable with each other.

its been a slow burn waiting for early access, but what you get is pretty legit. The feel of the game is dead on SWAT4 with a hit of WD40 glide. Its got what id call "record scratch" pacing where its slow and methodical, and can turn into a twitch shooter in the split of a second if an AI fakes you out, or barrels through a door or around a corner.

Frustrating in a good way, the AI dosnt bullsh*t around with drawing a shot on you, if you dont get the drop on a target, you wont be able to finish a call to surrender to the more hardboiled AI or let alone some of them wont even play ball with you, but immediately turn around and light you up. Sometimes im not sure if its a bug or not, but in a grim game like this its hard not to think the AI was actually functioning as intended. A methed up crackhead with an smg not acknowledging less than lethals or physical pain for example, stumbling through a hallway not giving up until it kites another player in your group into a kill lane for example.

Its still got some ways to go, but it dose appear VOID has really won over the tactical community with this early access after a few years of touch and go contact with the public on the development. They promise a spicy game that'll hit on the nose, and it looks like this could be the slow bake masterpiece everyone who enjoys these games hoped for.

Coming from Ro2/Rs2 I like it enough I suppose. Its a bit faster paced urban or enclosed combat thats more geared to balancing speed and violence, to stopping to listen and watch. But golly, I didnt think adidas sneakers were loud enough to be heard over gunships 3 rooms down, must be dutch knockoffs.

Its fun, the audio is great, its well optimized and great for anyone who wants small squad action with no respawns, to 16v16 versus gameplay. I did run into the 14yr old lieutenant who was trying out for the green berets a little too frequently though, every game like this has them I suppose.

Weapons have good feedback and feel/sound like they should, and the hipfire deadzone is in a kosher spot I think, not too advantageous or seemingly hopeless to try should someone knock a door down on you. I think my favorite part of such is you can reload your weapon to keep your chump change for later, putting the mag back in a pouch, or you can double tap R and just throw that magazine to the ground and just reload the weapon -time now- . Little quality of life things like that can make a shooter so satisfying.

My biggest boo, is any rank or credits to your profile must be done through competitive matchmaking, which to some would be the life blood of the game. If your coming in like me who thoroughly enjoys wading through the chaos methodically with a group of your favorite hood rats in 16v16 versus unofficial you might come a little dissapointed. Though some may feel its too crowded for sandstorms current maps.

overall its a recommend to give it a shot, but certainly a game worth hitting up forums and youtube for the functional details that arent super apparent to a new player

You remember that one game, whichever it was, platformer type no doubt... but you remember when you would be sitting there jerking the controller left or right with a quick lean like that was going to do something for the game?

This is that all over again.
