Right now it has a few issues and bugs. All of which seem to be getting some love or in line to get some love.
I have played 113 hours at this point. I have crashed once but my entire PC rebooted which it 'never' does so I have no idea if it was the game or my PC. I have found one thing that directly and predictably caused my FPS to plummet to around .3FPS while I was doing it and the bug that enabled the scenario that I could make it do this has been addressed but at this instant is not live. Fingers crossed.

So..... It's got a few issues and a few more are coming to light over time. It's EA. It's getting lots of developer loving. Don't let any negative posts or reviews about bugs put you off trying this little gem.

At it's best it is frenetic. You will have gods falling from the sky attempting to terminate you with extreme prejudice. This game will seriously damage your calm.

If you play nice and avoid any agro you can do the normal resource farming and such in relative peace. If you wind the gods up you better be prepared for the consequences. Unpleasantness lurks around every corner behind every cloud.

Never AFK in the field. If you do you will probably die no matter where you choose to hide. Not many places are safe.

It's definitely a different twist on loot gathering where killing the enemy and gathering the drops is only the first stage in getting to keep your ill gotten gains. No extraction = No loot! And completing an extraction can be the hardest part of the game at times.

It's cheap as chips and a lot of fun. Don't play if you have to deal with RL issues mid game. It's unlikely the game will allow you the time to do anything much safely. Even a bio break can be too long to AFK.

The entire time you are in a combat area you will be moving. It is almost never safe to stand still. If your wrists cannot deal with this then it's not for you. The combat can set a relentless pace.

Anyway.... there is quite a few things I hope they tweak and some changes that would (in my opinion) make things better but at it's core it's immensely fun, addictive and frustrating all at the same time.

It's not for everyone but it's absolutely my game of choice at the moment and I cannot wait for more content.

If any devs are reading this you need to stop and go make me more game.

Cheers.

It's got it's charms but it's such a bug ridden mess I gave up.

I got stuck in terrain exploring so had to suicide and I chose the respawn point in the house I just spent a day building. Respawned and 75% of my house dissolved around me and I pretty much lost it all.

Just no.... save yourself some grief.

This is only relevant for the beta.

The new version is well worth a look and is a definite improvement over the first iteration although I was pretty happy with the existing game on the whole so please don't take that as a huge negative for the original.

I enjoyed the new area even with the few minor technical issues. Asset flaws/missing, animal AI is still not improved yet and jumping can be tricky so getting stuck in terrain going places maybe you shouldn't is easy to do. Not much different from the original in that at the moment but I am assured those are being worked on. EA. 'Nuff said.

I recommend trying it out. If you enjoyed the original you will really like the new one. It's definitely missing features from the original but not so much that you will miss them. They have said for a long time they were not happy with the way the original game started and I sort of see what they mean but I was never that unhappy with it.
If they redo the original as well as the beta then it's going to be awesome.

Hopefully more content will come out for it soon. I am a bit tired of the whole EA thing and how many unfinished games are still for sale after years and years in EA (My games library is full of them) but this is one I will still follow even after almost 4 years. (3yrs 11m 7d)

So it's a thumbs up for the beta version and also a thumbs up for the original even with it's flaws. I enjoy them both.

I don't mind a modest amount of survival features in a game but this one is too much for me. There is too little time to enjoy and explore the game between the required survival elements.

It's too much bother for me but I fully expect others will enjoy it.

If you want everything to be a constant struggle and endlessly doing things just to set yourself up for the next thing the game is going to throw at you then by all means give it a go.
If you want a game that is basically just a series of chores then here it is.
If you want fun look elsewhere.

If you do not know the intricacies of the ruleset they use then avoid this game.

Anyone who does understand the ruleset will quite possibly find themselves having a near religious experience but if you play purely for fun, relaxation and to explore it is likely not for you.

Best left to the hardcore fans.

A surprisingly well balanced game.
You craft and upgrade equipment and I have found I always have just the right amount of just the right items just when I get the critical component (upgrade recipe rares).
This is only one example of where this game actually nails it.

It has a couple of issues. Pathing can be irksome and you may need to manually direct your character around some things but it's by no means awful. The trouble spots are almost predictable so hopefully it can be sorted.
Other than that and some stuff that is fairly obvious to regular rpg fans but not explained (no tutorial) it's pretty fine. EA to boot. Rare these days.

It says on the store page 'classless progression' but this really means you can buy and use skills, equipment and talents that you would usually see class restricted on any character. Thing is that almost everything really kind of depends on your primary stat so you will find yourself basically following and using the 'normal' skills that you would expect. ie dex based - ranged attack. int based - magic. str - melee. But you can pick things from anywhere if you want but you might end up jack of all trades and master of none. I don't think that sort of build choice would do my blood pressure much good but it is there.

There are multiple styles of maps.
Campaign - Just a series of progressively harder missions with no story.
Treasure hunt - minesweeper style - no combat. ( Just be sure to re-equip your primary and/or secondary weapons after.)
Nightmare - You will end up capped at level 30 but enemies step up 35,40,45 etc up to the last fight where they are 80 to your 30.
Patrol - Again another series of progressively harder fights but in a different format.

Huge amount of skills. Each skill belongs to a certain class and equipping multiple skills from the same class of skill gives you a bonus. Actually a good system and you get talents and attribute points to boot. Currently you can drop a skill and change it mid fight but I have not done this much as initially I never realised you could and now I just don't find I need to.

It's a fairly simple game. Nothing is going to freak anyone out. I have played some that are so hard I just parked them up and others so easy it's awful. This one really works.

It is a grind. You will be redoing the same things to get upgrade components but in many maps the enemies you face are random so it's 'same but different'. You can get some really challenging combo's of enemies and some that just melt when you look at them. It's random.

From the forums I see there is more content coming. Level cap increase. New items. New types of items even.

For me it has been value for money and I have enjoyed it. I recommend it as is and it appears it is only going to get better.

Awesome game. Lots of fun. I have been through it and in touch with the developer and he has fixed some bugs and adjusted a few things. This game is a lot of fun. It just hasn't been discovered yet. If you are looking for 20 or so hours to waste look no further.

Do you like blowing stuff up ?
Do you like lots of explosions ?

The atmosphere of the game is generally quite dark. This can make it a little tricky to see all enemies all the time but most of them light up in some way and it really makes for some awesome visuals while playing.

Lots to explore. Lots of ways to build your custom mech. Side missions and a main storyline to follow.

The game is one where you assemble your mech piece by piece with interchangeable components that are individually upgraded at a garage/workshop.
Guns - lasers/missiles/ballistic. Up to 3 guns fitted at once and all can be fired at once to throw out an absolute firestorm. engines
Locomotion - spider legs, tank tracks(Allows 2 inventory boosting backpacks instead of 1) The type and model determines your weight limit and speed.
Engines - Bigger is better. It's your source of power regen.
Cockpit - Turret rotation speed among other things.
Shields - Strength, regen and reboot if depleted.
Scanner - Strength and type of units detected. Mech, bio or both.
Light - Upgrade this ASAP. The game environment is generally dark.
Drones - build your own little helper and use perks to strengthen them up.

Your mech is gear dependant. You get better with better gear and via perks each level. You do not get stat points and such each level but on normal difficulty it is well balanced combat wise so there is no need for it.

Levelling up (99 level cap) gives you perk points to spend upgrading specific things.
All 3 weapon types, Power, Shield, drones and more.

This review is on the steam forum and has a few screenshots there.

I have played through to the end. At the time I posted this there was still a couple of bugs in the endgame regions but I have every confidence they will be fixed by the time you read this.
Just a couple of side missions not completing and I only just emailed the dev with them. He has fixed anything within 24 hours so far. Very nice fellow so if anyone finds anything then he is quick to fix stuff. Can't ask for better.

I highly recommend the game. It's a gem that seems to have slipped through the cracks so far.

Do yourself a favour and try it.

edit - this game has undergone some changes since release and any previous negative comments in other reviews can pretty much be discounted as no longer indicative of the state of the game as it is now. This is an honest opinion of how it is right now. Enjoy.

This game is not Battle Brothers. Don't buy it expecting a BB clone. It's a turn based RPG that happens to have characters that graphically resemble the way BB characters look. Every turn based RPG is going to basically resemble every other turn based RPG at it's core so yeah I can see why people are comparing them. They have similar concepts in a few obvious ways.

I wont list pros and cons as such because people have different ideas but I will point out a few things you should appreciate before you buy.
*This game doesn't hold your hand. I struggled at first for sure. If you pay attention then it does tell you things you need to know but you need to read and listen or you are going to miss it. Once you figure things out then it's a lot of fun.
*Combat was really hard for me until I got 4 team members to lvl 5/6 then it gets way easier. A combination of knowing what I was doing and better characters/gear/skills. It's easy to achieve this point without combat at all if you choose and you can do it reasonably quickly. Many people will get a hang of it much earlier than me I am sure.
*Characters have fixed stats all through the game. They get better by improving skills and getting better gear as you progress.
*Some games start you off where you progress in a linear fashion through level scaled content so you are always able to win if you do it right. This game lets you walk into fight's you cannot possibly win right from the word go. Lots of stuff scales up with you as you progress but if you upset the wrong people you could well get eaten alive.... be ready for this.

The game works. A couple of patches in and there are no game breaking bugs. Tell the dev what you want changed and maybe he will. He has a definite vision for the game but wants you to enjoy it too. I have chatted with him a bit and he has either said this is how it is because ....xxxxxxxxxx.... or OK I will look at it. Basically the core mechanics are how he wants them but if you have any dramas with how you interact with his game (ie - the UI, map, controls, tooltips etc) he is happy to improve it based on feedback.

I started off struggling and ended up beating the story. If I can then you can too.

It's cool and a lot of fun. I have paid a lot more for a lot less.

Definitely recommended for anyone who has a moderate skill level. If you want a hack'n'slash, steamroll the content piece of cake look elsewhere.

This game is a PC version of an ipod/iphone game. It has enhanced graphics. It was released pretty much as a direct port from the original. The developer who works on it is really only doing bug fixes and minor enhancements to the original while working on the expansion/ sequel.

It is very enjoyable if you are into this sort of game. Walk around doing quests and either smacking monsters upside the head with really big weapons or frying them to a crisp.

It works really well. Loads quick and is stable unless you alt/tab out at which point it usually crashes when you try to go back to it. Since the game loads and saves so quick it isn't a huge drama and quite possibly a windows fault since windows works so incredibly well with everything. /sarcasm off

The developer is adding many features not seen in the ipod/ iphone version such as weapon swapping and improved armours.

We wont see anything change dramatically but since release there have been daily patches with enhancements.

It's really rather awesome to see an active developer.

The game stands on its own merits. It's really quite simple but because it works so well it will suck in fans of the genre quickly.

I recommend the game.
