It's the most substantial Homestar Runner content we've gotten in recent years, and it's as magical as always~ The series feels right at home in the point-and-click genre.

A perfectly lovely game in theory, but I have truly never seen a game that was this poorly optimized with its control remapping settings. The game is an exercise in frustration every time I play it due to the sheer volume of glitches and programming inconsistencies related to key remapping. If you have to remap any keys for ANY reason, be prepared to have a significantly more frustrating experience with this game. I'm already extremely used to feeling disrespected when it comes to finished games failing to provide robust and functional support for key remapping, and even so, I have still never felt as disrespected about this as I have when playing Webfishing.

EDIT: All control remapping issues still unaddressed as of 1.09 update.

Thistlemine is a game I've had an entirely unique experience with.

WARNING! This is a HARD puzzle game. The core gameplay requires a lot of patience and experimentation, AND I MEAN A LOT, which I feel is important to know going in. This is one of those puzzle games that requires a lot of thinking and a lot of work, and in the process, ends up taking over your whole life for a while and changing you as a person.

Although Thistlemine plays like your standard battle RPG, it is a puzzle game first and a puzzle game second. Rather than a simple "shoot 'em til they die" strategy, every battle in the game asks you to solve the fight by figuring out how to string your various abilities together in the right order. Most time in this game will be spent in battle, experimenting with various attack combos through trial and error.

THISTLEMINE ISN'T LIKE OTHER PUZZLE GAMES. This isn't like your typical puzzle game, where the puzzles only have one starting condition and one solution. Multiple strategies can work on certain battles, there are numerous paths towards success, plenty of resources to play with, and conditions that can change depending on how you progress. As such, unlike most puzzle games, the replayability for this game is very high, which is by design!! Never before has a puzzle game so thoroughly taken over my mind before, and it's because of the countless different possible ways to progress.

And built on top of the distinctive core gameplay system is some of the most enjoyable presentation you could ask for. The witty writing, intriguing worldbuilding, charming artwork, addicting music, and satisfying sound design all serve to make it into a full experience.

I have never had a more enriching and satisfying time with a puzzle game than I have with Thistlemine. Although the barrier to entry is high, I can't imagine giving it anything but the highest recommendations.

I'm legitimately impressed as to how thoroughly this game has left an impression on me in terms of how vividly I remember exploring each and every one of the unique locales. The sense of atmosphere and wonder it manages to create just through hos the world design looks and feels is honestly phenomenal. I never even finished this game yet because I stopped playing halfway through for various reasons, and that was like a whole year ago, and I *still* have all the different areas fresh in my memory even though I only have like 20 hours playtime. It's special.

IT'S SO GOOD. the amount of customization for different builds is off the charts. leveling and stat optimization dont get overly complex while still allowing for a nice range of options. music is phenomenal (bought the ost even though i don't usually do that). presentation is off the charts!!! literally everything feels so thoroughly satisfying to do. monster and character designs are consistently fun. and the backbone of the game THE BATTLE SYSTEM is so thoroughly entertaining and well-crafted in terms of the amount of strategy it enables. every aspect of the game is just oozing quality and makes it so addicting to play. and its *not even done getting free updates?? whaat?*

the story: although the story is basic in some ways and is fairly light on "amount of significant story events that occur", it still is thoroughly enjoyable and above average. its genuinely compelling with its worldbuilding and unique premise, and plays around with a lot of interesting ideas. where it really shines is the main theme that the whole game is based around, the theme of "concepts" which is constantly reinforced. but i feel that the game genuinely feels like a wonderful piece of art in how it expresses and coveys its appreciation for its main themes

you can tell that the game was not only made with passion, but also made by people who *play* video games and understand what feels good because of that. its definitely earned a spot in my top personal favorite games of all time

Novelty & cuteness is out of this world, story & characters are compelling, and gameplay loop of catching the creatures is very engaging and never gets boring. The game's quality is off the charts. One of the best comfort games i've played in a while
