I joined the Hunt clan back in the days of 2018 early access. Back then it was a completely different game, or so I'd like to say. Sure some of the mechanics were reworked (R.I.P. small ammo cross-map headshots) and the overall experience was shifted from being insanely niche and hardcore to a more streamlined and accessible, yet still very much hardcore, game that even arcade shooters can have fun in.

Seeing all those changes come and go through the game's lifecycle has at times left me angered and even caused me to drop Hunt for over an entire year, though I cannot fully attribute that result solely to how the game has evolved, but more or less to my being burned out from playing for too long without proper breaks. However, after a good long break I've come back to find that the developers are pouring more and more love and care into the game 3 years down the road which is truly heartening and inspiring. It feels like this is a game that you can take a break from and it won't die by the time you come back.

In conclusion, yes the game has changed a lot since the early days and a lot of old veterans will say it's easier now, however do not let that fool you into expecting a breezy play through. This game tells you that you're a bounty hunter that's supposed to hunt bounties, but for many of us the bounty comes last; the main part of the hunt is the player versus player experience. You never know how many people are in any one game, where they are, or whether they can see you or not. It will take some time but with a little dedication and a lot of fun you will develop a sort of "sixth sense" for the game - things might seem a bit off, something is too quiet or for some unexplainable reason the hairs on the back of your neck will stand on edge when you look at an open field.

One more thing that I feel like I need to mention for the people that are too thick to properly read up on a game before they buy it and then ♥♥♥♥ on it through bad reviews: Hunt: Showdown is a game set in the 1800s era of fictional Louisiana. The weapons reflect both the time period and the fictional state of the game setting. That being said, it's your own damn fault if you go into Hunt expecting to have full-auto guns and whatnot. One bullet per trigger pull is all you get. So make it count.
