Please ignore my playtime - I ended up buying this game on two platforms and finished it on the Nintendo Switch during a long flight. I'd say I have roughly 10 hours play time total.

I'm a big fan of roguelike and roguelites, as well as the Hellboy comic books and coming from both angles this game is just okay.

The combat is simple to the point of being boring (you can shoot, light attack, heavy attack, dodge, block, and activate a charm). The boons you can gain throughout a run are simple, and add some uniqueness to each run however they are let down by the overly simple combat.

Overall, the game is also very short and in it's defence is not priced like a double or triple A game.

It does add to the Hellboy/B.P.R.D story, but it's not so dramatic that I'd recommend it to fans of the franchise.

If you're looking for a roguelike/roguelite you can find a tonne of them are more engaging than this game.

If you are someone who played through the original campaign once and put the game down until now - this is not the DLC for you.
For $20(AU), you're getting 3 new missions (roughly 1hr of gametime) - 2 of which are honestly quite meh and an incredibly lackluster boss fight. .
It also includes a few new guns which are okay but I don't think I prefer any of them over guns that are already easily obtainable in the base game. As well as new attachments, which I could say the same thing for.

If you're someone who already enjoys the game then it's quite possibly worth your money, especially if you know you will play through this new campaign numerous times to unlock all the new "content" (i.e. skins and decals), or just because you enjoy the solid gameplay foundations of the base game.

This negative review is here to try and outweigh the dumb recommendations where people say "I don't think it's worth it" or "I'm disappointed"- which are a lot of these top reviews.

Overall it's very average. Maybe a 5.5/10.

One of the more intricate tower defence games I've played, has something for casual and hardcore players.

A few different PVP modes to pick from, as well as online co-op, and even co-op PvP! (2v2v2v2)

It also has a single player campaign (with a really fun "skill tree" that is unfortunately not in any other game mode), as well as single player sprints with changeable modifiers to cater to your preferred difficulty.

Definitely worth picking up if you like tower defence games, or enjoyed the original Warcraft 3 mod.

Update: Even after my review a few years ago, I still come back to this game and have more than doubled my game time. The devs still provide balance patches even though they are working on their new game - Axon TD.

I still highly recommend this game.

Early Access Review
This game is very slow and requires a lot of reading as it is almost entirely narrative based.
If you're looking for something similar to Civilization with unit-based combat and city building, this is not the game you're looking for.
It's also an Early Access title which means this game is still early in development (It released less than a week before this review)

However, this game is quite unique. You take a few races essentially from the bronze age all the way to space travel, and further.
To do so, you need to manage resources for all of these races on separate planets. In the early game this is quite easy as you're only managing one or two races. Later in the game, this becomes more difficult, and if you're like me and you've become attached to your special little Dinosaurs in the Sol system, it can also give you a sense of urgency to save your favourite little geckos with spaceships when they get into a pickle.

The narrative options for this game can be quite fun and have enough detail to bring you into your own little universe a bit more.
However, at this stage of the game, you will often run into repeated dialogue or events for your different races - especially if you're playing multiple playthroughs.
Some of them also don't make a lot of sense, e.g. Dolphins drowning in floods, Plants growing crops to eat, etc.

The art design is quite appealing, however I would love if some of the images became slightly animated just to add some more appeal while I'm staring at my resource bars.

All in all, I'd recommend picking this game up in a month or so after release to see where it's at and get a feel for the game yourself.
The devs are quite active in the community and it seems like they really care about the players, and their game.

I have over double the hours offline.
I just wanted to leave a review to say I'm disappointed that Hades didn't get 200 GOTY awards like it deserves.
TLOU2 was okay but this game is a literal masterpiece.

10/10
GOTY 2020.
