Legendary Tales 1.0 has possibly everything you'd want in a Co-op looter physics swordplay game.
Wanna wield a bow and snapshot snipe like Legolas? Dual Wield shields and bash your enemies as a frontliner? Obliterate a swarm of skeletons with lightning from the sky? Or how about mimic your fav anime swordsman moment and cut through a goblin in one swipe. Whatever your RPG fantasy is, LT meets and exceeds. With only a modest computer that can handle minecraft on far render distance, you can delve the abbey dungeons with you and up to 3 other friends! I'll be going over the positives this game has to offer, as well as some things that may be lacking in its delivery.

= = = = = PROS:
1) Weapons Physics, Collisions, Combat Fluidity

A shortsword FEELS different than a claymore- you pick up a light object and swing it around, and you feel like "yup, this is about what i expect this object to act like" GONE are the days of 0KG sticks waving at the speed of light on the end of your wrist that look like a Garry's Mod accident. (im lookin at you SkyrimVR). swinging a weapon has momentum, drag, resistance, weight, and collision each unique between weapons AND how you hold them! (half-swording, two handing, high choking, AND reverse grip!) every holding pattern on a weapon affects how its swung at an enemy. Simply near perfect.

2.) MAGIC!
I dont really have alot to say about magic. It is powerful. If you get the gestures right, you can swap out between magic and weapons quite easily too! The varity of magic right now may seem a bit lackluster, as you have fire, ice, and lightning.. and thats about it. and you will probably be focusing on one or two spells of only one element the entirety of a run. (you might not have enough skill points in a run to level up TWO separate magic elements to master) Magic feels very satisfying to use, even if it is weightless comparitively to weapons.

3.) CO-OP!
The cooperative play is very... normal. I still rank this as a net positive as i have never lagged out, had connection issues, rubber banded, or had any latency combat problems. and this is coming from experience as i play with a friend from canada (and im from the states). all multiplayer is nethosted by the lobby creator, so if you have anything better that Starbuck's WiFi, you can play with your friends.

4.) Replayability
it doesnt matter if this game has only 3 enemies or 30 enemies, or 2 hallway colors or 20 hallway colors. the procedural generated dungeons and enemies keep it spicy. and i know in the discord there will be more enemies and rooms and procedures to keep it all mixed up and interesting! with the variety of parkour, secrets, hidden challenges, etc youll be coming back for more.

= = = = = NEGATIVES??
1.) Co-Op Leveling Make Me Sad :(
I know i just talked about how decent co-op is but let me explain. Co-op has its issues with progression. I could comparatively use borderlands as an example, you and your co-op friend would get shared XP for every kill and mission completed, and even some of the cash thats looted is shared. now, the issue with Legendary Tales CoOp progression is that XP is NOT shared. A guns-blazing frontlining sword-swinging barbarian can rush into a room and kill the room before the archer in the back can get a shot off. XP is tracked whenever:
- a STR or DEX or INT hit is registered
- an enemy is defeated
I have had many a times where i would find an item crystal on the ground with a friend, but only one of us is the proper level to use that item, as he or I would be lower level for not having killed as many enemies, or landed the killing blows.
I would highly highly recommend LT to change the co-op progression and XP distribution to be more balanced with multiple party members. Imagine how hard it would be to not kill-steal in a 4 person lobby so the 4th guy slackin in the back can finally have enough levels to use that helmet :p

2.) Throwing Weapons Make Me More Sad :(
I cant say i have successfully thrown a dagger outside the tutorial. nor would i even recommend it. throwing daggers feels so.. janky. i flick my wrist or sometimes my whole arm and let go at the apex. and... dagger falls to the floor or goes 5 feet.
even IF you manage to get a super neat ninja throw across the room into the head of a skeleton.. youre lost without a weapon.. and it did no better damage than just going up and stabbing.. and stabbing is faster.. and more accurate.. and has combat abilities.. and you dont lose your weapon.. and you get my point. just stab.

3.) Leveling Up Isn't a Choice. And That Makes Me Sad :(
When you play your RPG wet dream you get a choice between Strength (STR) Dexterity (DEX) and Intelligence (INT)
each of these traits are leveled by using them, and you naturally get higher levels in STR DEX OR INT by just using weapons and magic that have that statistic. So youre building up a STR barbarian that swings a bunch of heavies around and dishes out damage. sounds neat right? then you find this super cool dagger that does elemental damage and you start going to town. youre halfway through a floor when you realize you been leveling up your DEX this whole time. doesnt sound like an issue right? wrong. unfortunately, you have a LEVEL CAP on your STR DEX and INT. remember how i mentioned there are abilities that unlock with level requirements? well you just ruined your character by putting those 4 points into DEX and now youll never max out your STR because the game doesnt give you a choice to level your STR DEX or INT on your own.
Please. i dont want to feel handicapped at all for picking up a weapon outside of my build and being force leveled on a stat i dont want to use.

4.) Luck Makes Me Sad :(
Luck is a feature in the game where you can level it to increase your odds at better loot. Sounds neat right? Although this little feature can help you find those legendary named items in your dungeon runs, it does sacrifice a very important aspect of the game: health and mana pools. HP AND MP pools use the same point buy system as Luck, and oftentimes i feel wondering if buying anything into Luck more than 5-10 is worth it as you can easily get one shot for not having enough HP, or can only cast 2-3 spells before running out of MP. I wonder if Luck can be upgraded on its own, just like STR DEX and INT just by FINDING or breaking magic crystals.. hmm.

5.) at times slow and empty.
This game is a slow burn when it comes to traversal and parkour, and at the time of review there is no sprinting... yeah i know. for a game that takes hours upon hours to complete in multiple sessions, and by standing around alot, and doing alot of backtracking through different channels of a dungeon leaves you walking through alot of empty rooms n hallways at a faster-than-snail pace. alot of downtime. the pacing can definitely be broken up with mayhaps sprinting locomotion or teleportation magic. not to mention.. theres hardly a soundtrack.. the village music instrumental can be repetitive. and the dungeons.. have absolutely nothing in terms of music. i mean realistically theres no music in your dungeons. but i would kinda like to have something other than my spotify playlist in my ears to fill the emptiness of a dungeon thats half cleared.

Im keeping positive reservations about everything, as i know soon is LEGENDARY TALES 2.0 will change almost everything, and add even more. I may have alot of picky things to say, but just know it does make it genuine review and worth the purchase now to get used to the physics before LT2.0 comes out! Join the discord as well, and join the fun.

Horror games have blood and gore and screams
Action games have fights and epic soundtracks
Adventures have quests and mystery and discovery

But this? well.. has none of that.
This. Is a painful artful masterpiece with a fake smile plastered on its face.

**WARNING** You gotta be tough and take a few hits in the emotional department.
Sit tight, take a deep breath. And trust me, you'll live through it. And see its artform take shape.

This is the type of love-hate relationship where you, despite all odds, attempt to save Evan Winters.
This is not a game.

This is how hard your emotions about yourself can be ripped out and shown to you in the form of a dark pit of brilliance that one can only describe it as Actual Sunlight

I reccommend playing this twice.

Once.. be positive. try your hardest to see how positive you can be.

then.. realize this game has taken a toll on your investment of this dark pit of brilliance and play it again. The second trip around is just for the experience.

Then delete the game off of your hard drive, take a couple shots and go to sleep because you are about to think way too hard for the next couple of hours.

Well, thats only a temporary side effect. So don't worry.

No other game.. ahem.. i mean love-hate relationship experience.. has ever hit home so hard and so true and real, than this.

I give this a fair 8.9/10. For the inevitability. (Sorry, Developer. I couldn't possibly know how hard it mustv'e been to build this. Thanks.)
