I linked my PSN account and still don't think it should be mandatory, especially for people who live in countries where PSN isn't available. Keep PSN linking optional.

i wish steam had a maybe option for reviews because this feels like the most for-specific-kinds-of-people an armored core game has been since ac4a

ive been enjoying this game a lot so thats why im putting a yes, but i can completely understand why other people would be put off by it

the combat is exactly as fantastic as an armored core game should be, with fast satisfying movement and crunchy satisfying weapons and some cool new additions like acs, the missions and arena have consistently been great, the ac customization is fantastic as always, however, the boss fights in this game have some room for improvement

they usually either require or are made much more manageable with specific tools or strategies, which okay sure, esp since you can change your loadout after dying, but without that itll be a struggle to win since the bosses have much more health and much more firepower than you. ive had quite a few times where some of my guns run out of ammo and i beat the boss by the skin of my teeth. ive seen discussion over whether the bosses should be nerfed or not since the only restriction on getting the tools you need is backing out of the mission and i wont really offer an opinion there, but i will say it is kind of frustrating to be forced off of whatever playstyle youre vibing with (at least until ch3, you can usually make much more adaptable builds starting in ch3)

if youre the type of person thats either willing to put the state of the boss fights aside, or are willing to adapt to them, or just dont mind them anyway, then i do fully recommend this game, otherwise you may want to check out a different armored core game on like an emulator or something

i picked this game up because i saw it on a twitter post a few months ago and it was 6 dollars and it looked pretty neat

i'll be honest the videos do not really do the movement justice, it is SO satisfying and feels so good to do, esp when you learn some of the secret techniques

i'm a little sad the game is so short, but it's such a fantastic ride that i think it's worth it

for frame of reference, a long time i've been thinking "maybe i'll try getting into speedrunning some day" and this game i was basically immediately learning the route after beating the game

Early Access Review
i wanna start by saying this is not just a soulless tie-in, instead it's mostly one.

this game has almost nothing to actually do with blazblue, the characters are just a vessel for the gameplay to break up the bits of not very interesting story where floating wall-e robots talk about a fairly generic cyberpunk conspiracy (at least that's as far as i got), there's no actual reference to anything blazblue at all. your player character has some very sassy dialogue options which is kinda fun though.

the gameplay has some interesting ideas with the entropy system and the way it does progression (through tactics which are small generic talents and potentials which are big character-specific talents), but the combat itself feels like somebody wanted dead cells without understanding it. all the chaos of dead cells without any of the maneuverability your player character needs to navigate it effectively (enjoy getting clipped by random enemies while you're in an attack animation). you really are controlling a fighting game character in this game, which if it were designed with that in mind may have made for a clever adaptation, but i don't think it works for the game they actually made. when you have enough potentials, you can actually start doing some cool anime stuff, but getting there is an unenjoyable slog.

the most charming parts of this game are probably the visuals, which the art direction is legitimately gorgeous, and the music, which adds some very nice ambience to the game, but neither of these things can make up for what's fundamentally just not fun combat and a not interesting story or characters.

it really does feel like this was going to be a unique ip until they got the license for blazblue and decided to use it to sell the game. i'll give them the benefit of the doubt since it's an early access game, so maybe it'll be worth checking in on a year or two from now, but as it is i don't think this is really worth your time if you're not a diehard fan of sidescrolling roguelites.

you know a game is powerful when you stop to smell the metaphorical roses at pretty much every corner, and when it really helps your mindset outside the game (and makes you actually cry)

please play this it's worth it

Fantastic game, expands on Vermintide 2 in some very interesting and satisfying ways with all the new ranged mechanics and enemies. Piss off with the cash shop.

Honestly, this game is genuinely one of the greatest experiences I've ever had. I know Souls type games aren't for everyone, but this game somehow manages to nail the satisfaction of exploration and overcoming ever greater adversity, nail the feeling of an adventure, and still manage to be the most approachable Souls game yet (lots of new features like Spirit Ashes that let you tip the scales in your favor).

There's so many gorgeous vistas and the world is well-crafted to capture the essence of a freshly war-torn kingdom, full of magnificent architecture, terrifying depths, and a people without direction or hope. The story is fairly par for the course (especially for From Software), but the villain is one of the best written villains I've ever seen.

Really, my only lamentations with this game are a few poorly designed boss fights that disappointed and/or frustrated, and the obligatory performance issues, but for me, everything I've loved about this game I've loved enough to forgive those problems.

This game in general is considerably excellent and you're missing out if you don't play it.

Make sure to get the DLC, despite being super good it's also super cheap.

"They are ruthless. Without mercy. But you, you will be much worse. Rip and tear, until it is done."

DOOM 2016 pretty much captures what a reboot should be on the dot. Not the same game from several years ago, but instead its own, new game that still embodies the same things as the original. At its core is an incredibly fast and visceral shooter about recklessly blowing through the legions of Hell, and yet DOOM 2016 adds several new elements that bring the gameplay 'up-to-date' such as the vastly expanded verticality (as well as bringing lots of vertical mobility along with it) and Weapon Mods, which means the already expansive weapon library gets even more expansive with how different many of the mods are from eachother.

The levels are wholesome, with plenty of challenging encounters, particularly crafty secrets, lots of world to explore, and good attention to detail that pulls everything together. The game's intense industrial-metal soundtrack is phenomenal, being put together by the critically-acclaimed artist Mick Gordon, famous for his work on Killer Instinct Seasons 1 and 2 as well as the Wolfenstein reboot series.

My biggest complaint with the DOOM reboot is that the multiplayer is very underwhelming. It's playable, but it could be so, so much more if id themselves had worked on it instead of outsourcing it, as well as if it didn't have game-changing content locked behind a paywall.
